My husband recommended this book to me for reading on long car journeys as the stories are short enough that they don't stir up my motion sickness, but are also so varied that I will want to read the next one. At the beginning of a trip from Houston to San Antonio he pulled it out of a bag and asked me to read him the first story, we got to the end of the book and I hadn't felt sick at all. All of the stories are original, without the normal feeling of 'I've heard this somewhere before', and are written so they seem so logical that it feels like they could actually happen in real life. I have so many favourite stories from this book that if I listed them all, it would just be like the contents page! Overall though, Missing really spoke to me, it's poignancy is in no way marred by the subtle horror and I found myself with tears in my eyes as I read it aloud, Heart and Dear Extra Ordinary cemented the feeling that the author was writing from some past experience. The Hanged Man and Toe Tag provide excellent book-ends (pardon the pun) for the collection. While most of the stories are horror, the author managed to keep us on our toes by throwing in some sci-fi, murder and morally ambiguous ones too! I would highly recommend this book to anyone aged 12 and up, there's no swearing or sex, just mild gore and violence, which compared to other things in today's culture seems tame. I can't wait to hear more from Mr Andrew.
