Another strong volume in SPG's cheap and gaudy-looking Old School Jams
series, this two-disc set digs a little deeper into the seemingly bottomless well of solid gold funk, disco, electro, and freestyle released throughout the late '70s and early '80s. Nearly everything here is a classic, and a roughly equal percentage has been compiled on dozens of other sets (the blueprint here is Thump's Old School
series), but these things should be snapped up whenever they're seen -- unless, of course, you already have most of the contents. Top highlights: Marvin Gaye
's "Got to Give It Up" (a six-minute edit), Sheila E.
's "The Glamorous Life," Chaka Khan
's "I'm Every Woman," the Egyptian Lover
's "Egypt, Egypt," and Debbie Deb
's "When I Hear Music."
