About the Author

Hi, I’m Ann Macela, and I write enchanting, smart, and sensual contemporary romance and contemporary light paranormal romance. Sometimes with a touch of humor, sometimes with a little sorrow, always with passion and emotion.

My award-winning Magic Series is about a group of people who can cast spells to help them with their everyday jobs. Wouldn’t you like to have an ability that would help you type faster, make accurate change, fix the plumbing, or grow flowers and vegetables? Or whatever it is that you do? And these people, who call themselves practitioners, are guaranteed to find their soul mates. Ready or not, and whether or not they want one at that particular moment. As the series progresses, the magic gets more complicated and so do the relationships. Included in the series are the last two in the series, never before published.

Windswept won the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Romance, Small Press, 2008, and several other awards. Writing this standalone contemporary with a historical twist took me back to my first love, the study of history, and it definitely shows off my Texas roots. There’s a terrible secret in the papers of the Windswept Plantation . . .

I’m a native Gulf Coast Texan, now living in The Frozen North of Chicagoland. I started life reading mysteries, then sci-fi and fantasy. When I discovered romances, I saw a way to combine all the aspects of books that I liked into my own stories. And what a welcome difference from writing computer manuals--my old job and which has no magic about it at all.

Daria came from a family of witches and wizards using her powers to augment her chosen profession as a management consultant. Bent is temporary CEO of a company taken over by Grinnell Corporation that is having unprecedented financial difficulties. Daria's burnt out, however Bent is desperate for answers and feels Daria would be best for the job. Daria is determined to stay away but when she begins receiving threats she becomes determined to ferret out the source. The more Daria and Bent work together the more they find something more powerful than any corporate takeover driving them into each others arms. More than chemistry, it is an imperative, a soul mating and the oldest kind of magic.I found this story to be a very contemporary paranormal romance. There wasn't any of the light horror aspect you usually find with paranormals and more got into the mundane world of corporate building. Another unusual thing is that with many romances there is some type of friction between the hero and heroine, but in this one what conflict there is comes from an outside source. I liked the book, especially the cat characters of Zorro and Lolita, although I generally found it to be a little bland. However, I tend to be a bit of a romance/action junkie so it could just be me. All in all I thought this was a very nice, readable romance with just enough magic and mystery to get me through.

Ms Macela begins her Magic series in this well-written story, The Magic Practioners perform their special skills in their careers, in this believably crafted world. I enjoyed the balance of romance, magic and mystery, which had a most satisfying ending. Can't wait to read it again!

Her witch mom informs thirty years old practitioner Daria Morgan that her powers will be enhanced once she meets her soul mate and shares in the First Mating. Still a virgin, business consultant Daria does not want a man in her life though strengthening her powers would be nice. Her magic has enabled her to find problems in businesses................... CEO Joe Glennell sends his top troubleshooter John ¿Bent¿ Benthausen to Houston to work on the newest acquisition. Bent implements efficiencies, but costs remain exorbitant. A friend suggests he hire consultant Daria Morgan, but she declines. Bent and Daria meet through mutual friends and both feel an attraction. She offers him a tip that leads to the firm¿s security team arrested for stealing spare parts. As her family accepts him as her soul mate, a letter warns her to stay away from Glennell-Houston or else. No one messes with Daria who forces Bent to hire her as a consultant so she can uncover the remaining crooks while they practice THE OLDEST KIND OF MAGIC that of love.................. Ann Macela writes a charming romantic fantasy that will remind the audience of Bell, Book, and Candle. The story line is fun as delightful Daria meets her soulmate who to her chagrin is a non-practitioner breathtaking Bent has no problems adapting to her wacky family who adopts him as if they have known him all their lives. The threat against Daria seems overkill, but sub-genre fans will still appreciate this wonderful touch of magic. Once fans close the book and blow out the reading candle, they will anxiously await the soulmate of Daria¿s sister to ring her bell................. Harriet Klausner
