This book reminded me of the "Anne of Green Gables" series, but full of good originality. You become involved in the story, loving the characters--but for me, I despised the one sister because of her attitude. This involvement shows that Miss Abbott is a good new writer who knows the secret to drawing in her readers. Prince Edward Island provided a rich background for this story of human struggle and also strengthening friendships and family ties. Miss Abbott gives good descriptions of the setting, emotion and other details that aid a reader in visualizing the scenes. I almost felt like I was there alongside the different characters. People can relate in one or another to each character and event in this story. An excellent book for gifts...or for anytime and any place. I'm looking forward to Susanna Abbott's next books!
