Lady Lucy was expecting to marry the younger brother of the Devil Duke, but unknown to her were the plans to deliver her to a brothel afterwards. Her uncle and betrothed were only interested in the money she would bring. Having been left at an inn close to the duke's estate Lucy walks through heavy rain to get there. Having an idea of his brother's scheme Adam sees Lucy coming toward the house and carries her in when she faints. Evil isn't easily thwarted and dangers still lurk for Lucy as she wonders if Adam could ever love her. An enjoyable read, though the story would benefit if written more concisely. Thoughts in a single paragraph tended to be repetitive.

I enjoyed this story very much. I appreciated the fact that Lucy tried to help herself rather than wait for the man to save her. I wish the story had been longer as I would have loved to read more about these two. Although I did wonder where the guard dog was at the end?
