Author of The House of Shattered Wings (out now from Gollancz, Roc), a dark fantasy set in a Paris devastated by a magical apocalypse, where Fallen angels mingle with alchemists, witches and Vietnamese ex-Immortals. This is the second work by Aliette deBodard that I've read (after the Tea Master and the Detective), and I can say, without a doubt, that these books and their author have joined my list of favorites. The works themselves are not long, but are crafted to hint at depths of a history, lineage, and future that are vast and rich. Characters are rounded and full; emotions and psychologies are complex and satisfying.

Well-written, slowly-paced, character-driven piece.

Aliette de Bodard's Hugo, Nebula and Locus Awards for novella finalist is now in ebook. If you like intelligent, social driven Science Fiction, which has richly textured, beautiful prose, you should buy On a Red Station, Drifting.
