I really enjoyed this read. I've read a lot of non- fiction on the War Between the States. Many books follow the contemporary, rewritten history of how it began and why. This author did her research. The reader can really understand the difficulties that many faced during this time period. The characters and their struggles are incredibly realistic and the writing of the era is very true to the time and place. There are so many worthy quotes and texts...some are historically accurate and spoken by real characters during the time period. The down side for me was I prefer a completely clean read. The word d***is used quite a few times. A few times in context; other times it is used in swearing. I read Christian Fiction as an escape so that was disappointing. It didn't take over the read, but it took away from it, in my humble opinion. I simply applied white out as it wasn't prevalent. I really want my daughter to know the true story of this war, and this book did a great job telling it. For the accurate portrayal of the time period, the great research, and well written read, it makes my forever shelves. I'm looking forward to sharing with my daughter as she learns history so well in fiction. I received this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
This is a new author to me and I am so impressed with her attention to detail and how well researched this book is. I'm a big fan of Civil War Era Fiction and this does not disappoint. My heart bleeds for the brothers Jeremiah and Charlie who meet on the battlefield, but on opposing sides. I can't imagine the emotional upheaval. Clara is a strong woman, left to take care of the farm with her father in law. The spiritual journey that her and Jeremiah take is heartwarming. This is a story of love, loss, faith, family, and renewal. I look forward to reading the next two books in this series. I recommend this Historical novel because the characters are believable and leave you wanting more. I received a complimentary copy from the author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
