Overview

On Rocky Top: A Front-Row Seat to the End of an Era by Clay Travis

“The best book on college football I’ve read in a generation….If you love college football, you’ll love this book.”
— Jeff Pearlman, New York Times bestselling author of Boys Will Be Boys and The Bad Guys Won!

Part Season on the Brink, part Fever Pitch, On Rocky Top is a rollicking, all-access pass to the rough-and-tumble world of University of Tennessee football. The book chronicles the 2008 season, during which the team suffered its second worst record ever and Head Coach Phil Fulmer, the most beloved and recognized man in Tennessee, was fired. Author of Dixieland Delight, Clay Travis offers a fascinating inside look at the inner workings of a major college sports program, and chronicles a season of promise that went terribly wrong, ending a long, fabled era.

Being a Vol fan is a full time job for some. If time does not permit you to follow quite that close, On Rocky Top, lets you in on just what happen to the once top ranked UT Football program. Travis's primary focus is on the 2008 season, yet fills in with many essential facts from the storied history of UT football. The story starts when the Vols stumble "out of the gate" in the UCLA game and then takes you on a non stop "thrill ride" until there is little choice but to let Phillip Fulmer go. If your interest is either the Vols, or college football, I feel you be more than pleased with this book. Enjoy!

I am about half way through the book and i really enjoy it. I constantly catch myself reliving the peaks and valleys right along with Clay and hang my head in shame on some of the tougher loses...All in all a great read for any college football fan.

Clays book is a must read for any Tennessee Volunteer fan. He gives an indepth look at what it is like to cheer and cry with the Tennessee Vols. If you are not a volunteer fan you will enjoy reading about the self loathing and ruination of the Volunteer program and fans. Clays lanquage and lusts (not football) could have been left out of the book, but all in all in it an interesting read into one fans deep obsession with the big orange.
