When an evil necromancer threatens all she loves, Ellaeva must risk her sanity to face down the darkness within her soul.
All the Left Hand of Death wants is something to call her own, but is the price too high?
Ellaeva, the fated avatar of the death goddess, is desperate to track down her missing family but the trail is decades old. Instead, she discovers her battered and bloodied sister priestesses driven across the Jerreki border on pain of death. Ellaeva must turn aside from her personal quest to investigate the murders, only to find her parents have been taken into the heart of the conflict.
Lyram Aharris, favoured son of the royal line of Ahlleyn, is the only living person she trusts to help her infiltrate the enemy stronghold and uproot the horror they find there, but their chequered past threatens the mission. Accompanying him is his crown prince, the one man Lyram wants dead above all others.
Now Ellaeva must face down the darkness in her soul before a dark god is brought into the world.
At the boundary of life and death, all oaths will be tested.

About the Author
I grew up on a steady diet of adult epic fantasy from the age of nine, leaving me with a rather confused outlook on life – I believe the good guys should always win, but I know they often don’t. I am an oxymoron; an idealistic cynic.
I began my first attempts at the craft of writing in 1992. After writing far more failed epic stories than shorts, this culminated in the publication of my debut work, Confronting the Demon, in 2013. My first book published with Evolved Publishing is In the Company of the Dead.
I hold degrees in law and accounting, and I am a practising financial services lawyer. In my spare time, I speculate about taking over the world – how hard can it really be? If I could be anything, I’d choose a dragon, but if I am honest I share more in common with Dr. Gregory House of House M.D. – both the good and the bad. I am a browncoat, a saltgunner, a Whedonite, a Sherlockian, a Ringer and a Whovian… OK, most major geek fandoms. My alignment is chaotic good. I am an INTJ.
I live in Sydney, Australia, with my husband, my two daughters, and a growing menagerie of animals that unfortunately includes no dragons.

Ellaeva is still looking for her missing family but finds herself wrapped up in the mystery of who is killing off the priestesses of Ahura. Although Alhura has abandoned them months ago. But she is not going to be able to investigate by herself, she only has one person that she trusts to help her, Lyram. But the deeper the mystery goes, the more Ellaeva learns about herself. There is a darkness inside her that would be easy to slip into and never return. Is she strong enough to fight herself and those that want to kill her? I really enjoyed In the Company of the Dead and was very excited to read book two. Ellaeva is still looking for her family although it’s been decades. But finds her true path as she looks for the one killing the other priestesses. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in her inner battle against the darkness. You can see how easy it would be to go down that path but it never ends well. That has to mean something since all of the other priestesses die before they are 30 years old. Either way she is doomed. This is an amazing world with a great story that will draw you in and leave you reading until late. You can’t help cheering for Ellaeva and Lyram and crying at all they have to go through. I can’t wait to see what happens to the both of them next. This is one series that I would love to see as a movie or television series. I received On the Edge of Death from Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours for free. This has not influenced my opinion in any way.
Reviewed by Natasha Jackson for Readers' Favorite In On the Edge of Death, we meet Battle Priestess Ellaeva as she is in the middle of a decades-old search for her missing family. What she finds instead turns out to be a bigger mystery that puts her on the path she needed to be on all along. Ellaeva needs the one thing every good warrior needs as they head into the darkness of battle; a trusted person by their side. Lyran Aharris, the favored son of Ahlleyn, is that person for Ellaeva. Together they can traverse the darkness and undo the horrors they find on their journey, but that’s only if things in the past don’t threaten their efforts. Ciara Ballintyne goes deep into the world she’s created to paint a vivid, if sometimes frightening, image of what these two must endure to do the right thing. As dark as On the Edge of Death was, it was also completely captivating. From the first chapter when we, along with Ellaeva, find the beaten and bloodied bodies of her priestesses, I was sucked right in. Why wasn’t the goddess answering her and, more importantly, who was doing this to her fellow priestesses? The more answers I got, the more questions I had as the mystery unraveled at a steady clip. From the formal way the characters spoke, which transports the reader to another time and another place, to the odd names that suck you right in, there is no pretending you’re not in an alternate world to our current one. Ciara Ballintyne fantastically creates this other world in every word, pulls you in and leaves you panting for more by the time you reach the final page. A truly satisfying read that will leave you ready for the next adventure.
