About the Author

Kathy has always enjoyed writing poetry and short stories even as a child. She had her first poem published when she was 9 years old. She met her husband in 2000 and they were married in 2008. They are currently raising three beautiful children.
In her spare time she enjoys painting and showing her abstract and contemporary art. She likes to challenge herself to new things and expand her knowledge in history, culture and holistic healing.
Kathy began writing On the Outside Looking In a few years after her dad passed away in 2008. Her writing helped her with the healing process. During her years of living on the blind side of her dad's alcohol addiction, she often felt confused, lost and defeated. The more she began to open up and talk to people about addiction she realized she was not the only one struggling. She learned there are many people searching for answers and healing. That's when On the Outside Looking In came to life. She wanted to write a book where everything a person was looking for coming from both sides of addiction would be available.
Kathy is also the author of the children's series, The Cann Family. Having a family of her own, she understands how hard it is to talk to kids about certain life struggles. The Cann Family's "D" series is a series of books that cover little life challenges that families may go through while growing up. The Cann Family come up with creative solutions to each of those challenges. Each book comes with a fun family project to help the families interact and continue to talk about the challenge. The books range from simple things like how to choose healthy desserts, to doing your daily chores and then on to more serious subjects like how to say no to drugs and coping with death.
This series helps families create stronger foundations by building trust and communication skills.
After Kathy published her first book she realized she wanted to help other authors get their books out into the world. That is when she launched Live Love Learn Books Publishing. She believes when people can share their stories through their writing it will reach the ones who need it most.
She also knows how hard it is for non-fiction writers to go through the process in trying to find a traditional publisher.
Adding to Kathy's writing and publishing she is a professional motivational speaker.

Kathy helped me to see the other side of addiction. I thought I knew and understood, but now I have opened my eyes to a different aspect of it all. She showed me how to love and how not to enable. She taught me what it means to have hope. Having been through a similar story I wished I would have had her book sooner. A must read for anyone dealing with addiction.

Reading this book I learned a lot that I did not know about addiction. I respect that the author took us on a journey, not only through her story, but through others as well. The facts, history and testimonies helped me get a better understanding of the sad and very dangerous world of addiction. I don't believe there is another book about addiction that compares to this one. My eyes and my heart see more clearly now. Thank you Kathy for writing this book and for sharing your heart with the world.

This book is the most authentic personal account of suffering from addiction that I have ever read. I found it to be enlightening and eye opening to those that are not familiar with this disease of addiction and a pillar of strength and comfort to those struggling or know somone who has experienced this darkness and indescribable pain. Kathy opens herself up in a way that takes such strength and courage and vulnerability in order to benefit the world at large. I strongly recommend this book to all regardless of your personal experiences to date. Further, I have reached out to the author and she has been incredibly approachable friendly and amazing!!!!!!!

"Being on The Outside Looking In: Surviving the Blindside of Addiction" is an eye-opening book for anyone who has struggled with addiction or has anyone in their life that has. This book builds awareness and is inspirational. Real, raw, and open. There is so much pain and ongoing guilt that comes along with this disease. It takes a lot of strength to be this honest. I believe this book will be helpful and therapeutic. There is so much constructive advice and real-life stories. It’s so good for people to feel that it is okay to share this part of their lives. We all need support and acceptance to overcome hardships. People who do not struggle in this way they can learn that addiction should not be considered a dirty word. We all need to be more understanding. This is a devastating disease and so many people suffer along with their families. We need to learn compassion and understand this disease more so we can help friends and family members to find recovery which will lead to a better life. The author shares her personal journey of her father’s alcohol addiction and other people share their unique stories. All these true life stories were so honest and open that I felt I knew these people. It really made this story come to life. All these personal struggles are different but there are so many similarities. I was emotionally pulled in and touched. These stories really drew me in and helped me to better understand their situations. Everyone can gain something from this in-depth educational book. The reality of addiction is it can happen to anyone. If not stopped it can lead to death. This is not a subject to take lightly. This is life changing and important. There was a reason this author had to experience all the pain and hardship she had to go through with her father. I admire her so much for reaching out and sharing her account and so many others. This is an impactful book that gave me goosebumps and made me to remember to be grateful for the good and the people who are in my life.
