Overview

Love is best served on the rocks.

My roommates look really good naked. At least one of them does. I'm sure the other one does too, but I haven't seen him without his pants on. Living with two guys wasn't something I'd ever considered, but the opportunity fell in my lap, and I'd have been crazy to turn it down.

College went by in a great big blur leaving me with less of a direction than I had going in. Add in a family that wanted nothing to do with me, and my post-college plans were less than clear. What's a girl to do when she has nowhere else to turn? She moves to the Outer Banks and learns to bartend. After all, it was my horrible bartending skills that led me to my roommate's bed and into his heart.

On the Rocks is the second book in the Mixology series by Alyssa Rose Ivy. This story is told from Carly and Macon's point of view, but don't worry, Colin and Maddy play big roles throughout the book. So, we are kept up to date on everything going on in their lives. Macon and Carly had it easier than Macon and Maddy. There wasn't as much drama. Part of that is because Carly is working through some of her drama that we learned about in the first book. I liked that though. This was more of a relaxed romance where we could sit back and watch their relationship grow. Macon is out of his element when it comes to Carly, and it was fun to read. They were funny together. They were just plain fun in general. I feel so involved with characters, I feel like I'm one of the gang while I read. That's what it's like with all of Alyssa Rose Ivy's books. She really knows how to reel her readers into her worlds! Overall Rating:  4 Rockin Stars This story gives the reader a look at the hazards and joys of the young adult phase of life.  It deals with the need of said YA's to choose a career, the difficulty of finding a life partner, and the stress of dealing with family bonds regardless of how nurturing they may be. Carly a shy, young college graduate finds herself crashing at her brother’s home for the summer while she tries to find a job.  It really doesn’t hurt that she has nowhere else to go because she sure can’t go home, not after the way her family has disowned her.  Carly is reintroduced to Macon by her brother’s girlfriend.  Macon and Carly already know each other but only as casual acquaintances.  They find that they are drawn to each other but fight the attraction.  Macon had thought that his career was set with a family business opportunity but when family problems develop he has to take another path.  He finds himself working as a scuba diving instructor until he can decide on another career.  During this time Macon’s roommate is dating Carly’s brother-this could cause a backlash if things went bad for him and Carly.   Carly jumps at the opportunity to become roommates with Macon and Brody when Maddy moves in with her brother.  She doesn’t want to be a third wheel living with Colin and Maddy.  The attraction between Carly and Macon continues to grow and a deep friendship develops as they share secrets with each other.  They both agree that they need to fight the attraction because as roommates this would problematic.  The question is can they fight the feelings developing between them and just stay friends? Or will they succumb to their attraction? This was a sweet story about finding yourself and testing the waters of adulthood.  The book is written well and it flows really great.  I enjoyed reading Carly and Macon's adventure and look forward to Brody finding his special someone.  Hero:  3.75 stars Heroine: 4 stars Plot:  3.75 stars Steam level:  4 stars Cliffhanger:  No Would I recommend this book:  Yes.  This book has an enjoyable plot and the characters are well developed.  You are along for the ride with them! Would I recommend this author:  Yes.  The author delivers an entertaining storyline that keeps you wanting more! ***Received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review***

“Sometimes love is best served on the rocks, especially when it’s the kind of love that changes you forever.” This book made my heart smile! It made me all tingly in side…. I love when you get the chance to watch two people fall in love with each other without all the MAJOR complicated drama! Don’t get me wrong though…. Sometimes I love lots of angst in stories but there are times that I want some drama without it overpowering the love aspect of the book. This is the story of two people who don’t really know what they are going to do with their lives. They are kind of walking along the path of life and join each other to end up in the direction that they love. I enjoyed watching the build-up between Macon and Carly! They had the fun flirtatious side and had a way of getting at each other but you still saw that they cared! Macon was a great guy in this story! The things he did for Carly… ie…. Doing the online bartending class with her! It just amazed me! I loved his fun personality too…. Throwing her in the ocean fully dressed. Plus he never took advantage of her which showed a true gentleman. Although, he did have some moves in the bedroom which is always a good thing! The book was told from both Carly and Macon’s POV! It was a quick read and truly enjoyable!

When a falling out with her family and post-college indecision leave Carly adrift, she escapes to her brother Colin’s house, where a summer at the beach just might be the answer. But Colin’s girlfriend Maddy is thinking about moving in, and Carly doesn’t want to wear out her welcome, and before she knows it, she finds herself moving in to Maddy’s old place — with two rather hot male roommates. Macon might miss having Maddy around, but his attention is quickly captured by his new roommate Carly. She’s fun and flirty and a hell of a lot more than he expected. She might not have everything figured out yet, but she certainly has his attention, and while he knows better than to get involved with her, he just can’t help himself. And she doesn’t exactly make resisting easy. But... I definitely enjoyed the book, but I don’t think I connected with the characters as much as I did in Shaken Not Stirred. In the first book, I pretty much fell in love with Brody and Macon, and I was all about Maddy picking Colin over the rather mysterious Lyle. But once Macon’s romance with Carly began, the dynamic duo that was him and Brody sort of faded away, and even though Maddy had some pretty major drama going on, I didn’t see much of her. I definitely liked Carly, and her relationship with Macon was entertaining, but I guess I just didn’t get quite as invested this time around. The Verdict: My own odd distance aside, it was still a fun read. Carly and Macon are quite the pair, hot and bothered one minute and then cracking jokes the next. Their banter didn’t fall when their clothes did, and that made for some pretty realistic love scenes. I mean, sure, sex can be all high temperature, but that doesn’t mean people comfortable joking with each other suddenly switch personalities. It was really nice to see these two keep making each other laugh throughout the book. I also liked getting another look at Maddy and Colin. Their relationship wrapped up neatly in the last book, but that true commitment was still rather new, so it was great that On the Rocks didn’t relegate them entirely to the background, and we got to see them moving forward with their relationship. Carly's deal with her family was really sad, though, which probably served to keep the story from getting too fluffy. And who among us hasn’t had some crazy family drama? Colin’s big brotherly understanding, Brody’s loyalty, and Macon’s protectiveness just sealed the deal. This group of slowly coupling off friends makes for some great romances. Frankly, I want to read Shaken Not Stirred again now, and maybe immediately follow with a second reading of On the Rocks. I have the feeling a back-to-back reading will pull me further into the characters this time. ***FicCentral received this book from Inkslinger PR for free in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed getting to know Maddy and her crazy friends in Shaken Not Stirred, and I was super excited that Macon got his own story, and with Carly no less.  What I really enjoyed about this story was that it wasn't so completely emotional and full of drama, and instead it allowed me to enjoy my time with these two amazing people. They make a smoking hot couple, and the chemistry sizzled. I loved the changes in Macon. Deep down he wasn't really a bad boy, and it just took finding the right girl to bring out the true, loving and romantic guy who graced the pages of this book. I was also excited that Maddy and Colin were a large part of this story and to see that their happiness continued and grew, in more ways than one. All, that's left now is for Brody to find his happy ever after and I'll be a satisfied customer.  This story was fun and carefree. I had a blast reading every second of it. I only have one question, though?? Where can I find a clone of Macon?? :)

Carly has recently graduated college and is hitting up her brother, Collin, for a place to stay for the time being. Not sure what she wants to do with her life, she thinks the best place to decide is with him. He has always stood behind her when it comes to their sister and parents. But when a job at The Grille and a place to live falls into her lap, she jumps at the chance to take it. Only problem is...she has feelings for one of her roommates. And he just wants her for a "Wing Woman" while on the prowl. As always with one of Ivy's books, I fell right into the story and was immediately hooked. It is hard not to get attached with such great characters. I loved that it was about Macon this time and I found him simply irresistible. Although with the ending we got in this one...I think Brody may blow this book and the first out of the water. It is just a feeling I have. (At least it better be Brody’s turn…who else would it be, right?) Like I said, Macon is completely irresistible, you can’t help but gravitate towards him. All the girls do. So it was easy to see that Carly did as well. She is in a tough spot in her life. But with a little help from Macon and Brody she starts to come out of it, gaining a bit more confidence in the meantime. I really did like her and glad we got to hear her story. She is fun and can be feisty. But I love her attitude the most. Especially when she is with Macon. They bring out the best in each other. One of the best parts of the book was that Maddy and Collin's story didn't end in the last book. Oh no! So much goes on in this book that has to do with them. And it will have you smiling the entire time. Another thing that I loved about this book was that there wasn't that All or Nothing moment in the story. Not really. There wasn't something that said they had to make a crucial decision or life as they know it would cease to exist. Yes, I actually breathed a sigh of relief. So many times, books have those moments and you just want to say "why?" Why can't there be minor problems that don't have characters hanging on the edge of destruction. Not everything has to be a fight to live. ON THE ROCKS is a fabulous, quick, hot read! From the start you feel the chemistry between Carly and Macon and it only gets stronger as time passes. I look forward to more from this series and of course anything Ivy wants to dish out. 5 I Loved It Stars!
