On the Rocks by Kim Law is part of her Turtle Island series. In this book we meet tomboy Ginger Atkinson who came back home, from college, to run the family business after her father died of a heart attack. Ginger is happy running her late father’s Turtle Island ferry business, but everyone in the world is finding love except her. As she is stuck on the wrong side of thirty, she is looking to find a partner for life to start a family and live in the dream house she is building. Carter Ridley is the boy next door, Ginger’s high school crush. He returned to the island after his mother wore him down to check on his sister, who is eight months pregnant and recover from a broken marriage. In high school, Carter loved to sneak off with his good friend Ginger to watch the sunrise over the ocean. In the meantime, Carter and his sister are remodeling their parents’ home before they return to finally stay after all of their missionary work. In the meantime, he runs into Ginger. She’s trying to finish her dream house and move out by the time her mother remarries. So he arranges for his contractors to help her out. Carter soon discovers that Ginger is all grown up. His teenage friend had become the woman he has always wanted. Not only do they renew their friendship, but soon become friends with benefits. This despite knowing he will soon be leaving at some point. Carter’s pain causes him to be leery of finding happiness. Ginger wonders if Carter can be the loving partner she has been looking for. He doesn’t want to trust love again, yet she wants a happily ever after. Just when Ginger thinks he might stay, he leaves and breaks her heart. She knew she wasn’t going to get her HEA. And he couldn’t bring himself to care. Well, he did care and it hurt. I highly recommend this book to all readers. I truly enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down. This is also a story about how your friends can help you get through anything and that they will always have your back. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Carter and Ginger were childhood friends who drifted apart when they left the island to pursue their dreams. Now he's back in Turtle Island, but he is no longer the person Ginger remembers. He is bitter, angry and stuck in rut. Ginger longs for love and marriage, but her tomboyish ways seem to make it difficult for her. She is the only one who seems to be able to through Carter's walls and soon they are picking up their friendship where they left off, except now there's an attraction that wasn't there before. I really enjoyed Carter and Ginger's relationship as it evolved from friends to lovers, and the way they helped each other deal with the reasons behind their troubles. The humor mixed in with the steamy and emotional scenes help to lighten the mood. Even though it is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by on of Ms. Law's books, looking forward to the next one! I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

Ginger and Carter grew up living next door to each other. They shared their dreams and had a special bond. Skip forward, and Ginger is now running her deceased fathers charter business very successfully. Carter is also very successful and comes back to the island, to check on his sister and to take stock of his life. Ginger is 'feeling her age' and dates, a lot, trying to find Mr. Right. Carter is reeling after his marriage disintegrates in scandal. Ginger isn't looking to 'hook up' with her old flame, or is she? Carter is too vengeful to see what's right in front of him, but can that be turned around? Ms. Law does a masterful job making these two see what to everyone else is as plain as day. Add in some interesting side stories and this book just did it for me! Sometimes old friends are the best, for then, for now, for always. I can't wait for another Kim Law read. I've never been disappointed.

Reviewed by Angela and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Kim Law continues her Turtle Island series with a story of love and second chances. This third installment, On The Rocks, will let you experience the character’s emotions as if they were your own. Ms. Law did an awesome job bring an equal amount of humor, heartfelt scenes and even added a little more heat than usual. Ginger and Carter lived next door to each other and they shared a special friendship when they were kids. Unfortunately, they had completely lost touch until eons later finding themselves back in their hometown getting reacquainted with what they once had. Ginger now owns her father’s fishing boat company, still single, and very much looking for love in all the wrong places. Carter on the other hand is back in town temporarily to help his sister. He’s hoping he gets over his recent divorce and possibly get his writing mojo back. They’re timing sucked before but as fate would have it, they find what they are looking for in each other. Both Ginger and Carter’s predicament are all so relatable. No matter how big or small, I love how real their issues are. I especially love Ginger Root. Her plain-jane character is as real as it gets. As well as her dreams, ambitions, and even insecurities. Honestly though, I wasn’t sure how Ms. Law was going to put these two together when they are clearly in different phases of their lives. But she did it and did it in good time. The pace was steady and she put enough heat and tension along with good friendship. She made it work and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. If you like books with small town romance with a second chance theme, I would recommend this author. She’s one of my go-to authors and pretty much a sure bet.

Once again, Kim Law has a winner. On the Rocks is the third book in the Turtle Island series. But it is not necessary to read the other two to enjoy this one. This author has a way of providing the reader with descriptions of characters and detailed settings that the reader is almost present in the book. Ginger and Carter have been friends and neighbors since childhood. They are now adults and facing relationship difficulties. With the assistance of friends, family and co-workers, will they be able to solve their problems or cause more problems? I look forward to reading the first two books in the series that I missed before reading this one. I also look forward to future works by her.

Ginger Atkinson is a sassy redhead who is looking for a man who will love her. She hasn't had much luck. She doesn't understand why. She tries so hard to please. What is wrong with her? Her former high school crush and next door neighbor, Carter Ridley, is back home to check on his pregnant sister. He is unhappy and mad at the world. His wife left him for another man. He tried so hard to have the perfect marriage. Why did she leave him? After their first meeting I knew that these two were perfect for each other. I felt their intense attraction, but I wasn't sure that they could move past their insecurities and tangled emotions. I like a strong, intelligent heroine. Ginger doesn't need a man to rescue her. She can do it herself. I wanted to shake Carter and tell him to stop feeling sorry for himself. He had to face his problems and move on. Turtle Island provided the perfect backdrop for their passionate romance. I loved seeing them get a second chance to find love. On The Rocks is a wonderful story and a perfect addition to the Turtle Island series. Kim Law did an outstanding job. I loved the characters, the chemistry and the touching romance.

Both Carter and Ginger have some growing to do and time spent together helps them find their way again. The future Ginger expected hasn’t shown up yet and she’s getting a little desperate. Her thirtieth birthday is here and she’s always expected to be married with kids by now. But the more unsuccessful dates she goes on the harder she tries, which unfortunately doesn’t help. In an attempt to get a relationship to stick, she’s forgotten to be true to herself. Carter is coming out of a very bad end to his marriage and he’s angry at the entire world. Back on Turtle Island to check in on his sister has him running into his old friend, Ginger. It doesn’t take long for her sassy & bright personality to start bringing him out from behind his walls … but that doesn’t mean he’s ever going to want to expose his heart again. The relationship that develops between these two is just about perfect. I love them together as they become friends again, which of course develops into an attraction, but with Carter’s faith in tatters he’s only willing to go for something casual. Being a romance, you know that that doesn’t stick, but it’s nice to see them try :) And while they do have some crazy hot chemistry (sizzling hot!), they also have a strong foundation of mutual respect and caring which lays the groundwork for something more to happen eventually … once Carter gets over his past hurts. With characters that pop and story lines that keep me glued to the pages, I’m keeping my eye on what Law delivers next – it’s sure to be fantastic! This book started out great, and it kept me hooked! It is full of emotion and makes you really feel something. I absolutely loved it! Cannot wait for the next in the series!

Kim Law is wonderful at depicting all the emotions involved in romance. I am always surprised at how well Law shows all the ranges of emotions in her romances and On The Rocks brilliantly illustrates this! Ginger Atkinson is a woman living her dream of running a fishing charter boat company but has stalled in the romance department. Carter Ridley is her teenage crush that has returned home to help his pregnant sister and lick his wounds after a marriage gone bad.
On The Rocks is a wonderful, refreshing romance and Law's characters immediately engage us in their story. I love the intricacies of Law's plots and I always feel drown to her characters. Ginger is engaging and you will immediately sympathize with her and her dating dilemmas. Carter is a handsome, angry, and sexy --a winning combination. You will be pulling for these two to find each other and true love!
I loved Ginger and Carter! I had not previous read Law's Turtle Island series but after reading On The Rocks, I immediately purchased the first two books in the series and loved them just as much!!!!

I really enjoyed this book! I have read a couple of Kim Law’s other books, but found this one to be quite entertaining. So much so I read it in one sitting. I didn’t want to stop until I finished it. And that is a rare thing lately for me to carve the time to read like that. I love when a books characters grab my attention and I want to see them get their happy ever after! The characters were very easy to relate to. Not just the main characters, but enjoyed all the glimpses of the other characters including Ginger’s Mom getting married again! Hearing about her friends and their happiness! And who hasn’t procrastinated over things at one time or another. It made Ginger seem so real! I laughed at times, I will admit to shedding a tear or two with the appearances of Ginger’s father. The romance portion of the book definitely kept me reading! I look forward to the next book!!!! Kim Law has become one of my go to authors! I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

Great Book! This is a great book; this is the third book in the Turtle Island series by Kim Law. This book can be read as a standalone but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the other books in this series. Ginger Atkinson is a sassy tomboy who is running her late father’s ferry business on Turtle Island. Carter Ridley loved spending his time with his good friend Ginger, but he took off after graduation. Carter has come back to Turtle Island to get over the betrayal of his ex-wife. The more time they spend together they realize that they have a chance at happiness if they can put their past behind them. If you are looking for a great romance then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this wonderful author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

The perfect read to warm you up this winter with a visit to Turtle Island. I devoured this book in one day. Loved the friends to lovers of Ginger and Carter. They were neighbors and best friends while growing up, both leaving the island to pursue their dreams. Now they both returned to Turtle Island. Ginger now runs her deceased father's boating excursions, not a girly girl at all. Trying to find the right husband, without any luck. Carter has returned home only temporarily, to help care for his sister. Carter has just gone through a divorce, he is a very unhappy person. They soon take up where they left off in their friendship, but soon discover there is more there in the chemistry department. This is the third book in the series, but can be read completely as a stand alone. I so enjoyed seeing the old characters, especially Mrs. R, she is a hoot. She so needs her own HEA. I can't wait for my next visit to Turtle Island. Well written characters, I think a lot of woman can identify with Ginger, just your average girl, that enjoys just wearing pants, or no pants at times, lol. I received this book from the publisher via Netgalley for unbiased review. I highly recommend this book , along with the rest of Kim Law's books!

Ginger and Carter – what a fun ride to their HEA! Ginger is the antithesis of “girly girl”, especially in the South however she is more woman than she gives herself credit for. Carter was her best friend growing up but moved away, got married, and hasn’t really been back since. There is so much depth to this story and the craziness between Ginger and Carter was such fun. There are nosy parents and siblings, there are hot and hunky contractors, and ex’s and dates…well, let’s say that both Ginger and Carter have their emotions go crazy. Both of these characters have hurt and anger to work thru, from their pasts, but it was a very enjoyable read to watch them get to their HEA. I highly recommend. On the Rocks by Kim Law is a very fast pace enjoyable read. This book kept my attention all the way through. Kim Law is such an amazing storyteller, she sucks you into the story. Her characters are always likeable and relatable to our lives. Ginger is a beautiful fun tomboy looking for love and Carter is a very hot sexy angry man that has been broken by his ex-wife. These two grew up best friends next door to each other as friends. They see each other years later and figure out there is chemistry, but can they make it work is the question? Make sure you read this one, you will love it like I did. I received a free, advance copy of this book from publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.

This story is about two friends: Ginger Atkinson and Carter Ridley. Both grew up on Turtle Island and were the best of friends. They would hang out and watch the sunrises, talk about their days, their dreams and wishes. They would also talk about their futures. As time went on they grew up and went to college in different places. They lost touch. Today Ginger finds herself back on Turtle Island owning her own business and living with her mother since her dad passed away. She is pretty down on herself due to the problem she is having finding the right man. She dates but they don't work out. Her friends have all found their significant other gotten married and are having kids. That is what Ginger wants, someone to share her life with. She is beginning to think something is wrong with her. Carter is back on the island after his mom has pestered him to go and check on his younger sister. She is alone at home and pregnant. Carter reluctantly agrees and goes home. Once there he not planning on staying any longer than a few weeks, check on his sister and go back home. Ginger and Carter meet up at Carter's parents house and Ginger finds him a very different person. True they are older now and time has passed but Carter is drinking, smoking, grumpy and angry. The story will take these two friends through a learning experience of sorts, both finding about what strength they have, who they have become and what they really want out of life. They start to spend a lot of time together and help each other see many things, good and bad. They help each other and hurt each other. But in the end their friendship might be able to win out, and even grow into something more. I don't want to give anything away as I do believe this is a book worth reading on your own and finding out for yourselves. I have read the other Turtle Island books and can honestly say I loved them all. I loved reading about the others on the island and what they have been up in this book. This book has the perfect blend of fun, humor, sexiness and friendship. You won't be disappointed. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review I will be buying my own copy of this book when released to support the writer since I loved it so much.

Totally loved On the Rocks (3rd book in the Turtle Island series) I didn't realize this was a series when I started reading but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone. I am going to catch up with the first 2 stories now though. I loved Ginger- I loved watching her become confident in the person she was. And as a non-girly girl with 2 girly girl best friends I totally felt her pain in many of the book's situations. This book was a love story first but I really liked the other themes it encompassed as well, being true to yourself, learning to love who your are, the importance of friends & family. Just a really awesome read. ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

Another great visit to Turtle Island. Ginger and Carter are childhood friends who grew up next door to each other. They lost touch after high school. Years later, he's come back to Turtle Island from his home in Connecticut for a few weeks to keep an eye on his baby sister while his parents are away. Ginger and Carter reconnect and discover there is a little bit more to their childhood friendship. The big question is if they can overcome her search for Mr. Right and his issues with his ex-wife to find their happily ever after. I loved revisiting all of the residents (and former residents!) of Turtle Island. This was a fantastic read. I received a free advanced copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley for an honest review. If you like a book that contains great characters, its heartfelt, childhood friendships, low self esteem & trust issues, its romantic and has plenty of humour - then this is definitely a book for you. This story revolves around Ginger - she returned home after the death of her father to run his boat business and she loves it. The only downside for her is that she can never seem to find love and she feels inadequate as a woman. And Carter - he is called back to his childhood home to check on his younger sister who is pregnant and alone and his parents are away travelling and are worried about her and about Carter too. Carter however, is not in a good place and he is very angry with the world after his failed marriage/divorce and does not need to be babysitting his sister and can not wait to leave the island. So here we have a woman (Ginger) who wants to find love, a woman (Julie) and her brother (Carter) who both want to be alone to get on with their lonely lives and what a story this gives us. A little background - Ginger and Carter used to be childhood friends, lived next door to each other, they used to tell each other secrets, were always their for one another in times of need and both loved to watch the sunrise. Then time happens and college beckons and childhood friendships are lost and an unknown crush was never found out. So swing back to now and one evening Ginger returns home to see an unknown car in next doors driveway and the blinds are closed, she gets an uneasy feeling and goes to investigate with her can of mace to see if Julie is ok. Ginger knocks and gets no answer, she then thumps but when the door is opened it wasn't Julie that opened it but Carter her childhood crush. Both Ginger and Carter have never forgotten about their friendship and it was great to see them learn to trust one another again and with this the story evolves and we find out about the characters pasts and what has molded them into the people they are today and we see how friendships can be re- found and treasured once again. I loved how this story flowed from one part to the next, answering the questions that you have not even asked. This is a well written Love story and I would definitely recommend it as 'A MUST READ'.

Part of a series but can be read as a stand alone as I did. What a great story. Had trouble putting it down. When Carter's younger sister ends up pregnant and alone his mom begs him to go home and check on her. He finds that she is having problems but he has problems of his own that need to be resolved. He is hurt and angry and he sees his old neighbor Ginger that he used to be best friends with and she is also having some problems. They end up going to the rock they used to as teenagers and talk things out and decide to have sex with one another to get it out of their systems but since Ginger has always had a crush on him her feelings run deeper. They have a great time together but he goes back home after a text from his ex-wife. You won't believe what she has done to him!!! Great ending to this story, need to read it to find out! I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.

I have not read any of the books in Ms Law’s Turtle Island series, so I was concerned about not being able to follow the storyline. Rest assured, that this book is a standalone and I just LOVED IT !!! Did I mention I LOVED IT ?!?! The story is about Ginger, not a girly girl, who after her father’s passing, has taken over her father’s boat company and made it a successful business . As well as about Carter, a recently divorced man, who is going through some struggles of his own, but has come back to Turtle Island to help his very pregnant unwed sister. These two were best of friends, and next door neighbors, but have not seen each other in many years. But the story is really about life’s challenges, failures we face , allowing ourselves to heal physically, mentally and emotionally, about letting go of fears, and finding redemption as well as the importance of friendships and family. So please , run to get this book (or quickly go to the computer and order it) you will not be disappointed, and if like me, will want to read the previous stories of this series, written by a thoughtful and compassionate author. I did get this book for an honest review, and it is !

Another amazing Turtle Island story! I've always adored Ginger. She's a wonderful character but not your typical girly girl. While she's content with her life as a fishing boat captain, life on the island has gotten lonely since her two best friends have found their HEA. When Carter Ridley returns to Turtle Island after a tumultuous divorce, he and Ginger seem to pick up their friendship right where they left off. They aren't kids anymore though and the feelings that are building in both of them are simply friendly! Could Carter be Ginger's HEA???? You definitely want to grab this one and find out. I highly recommend it.

Such an adorable story that kept me enthralled from start to finish. The characters are intense and have wonderful chemistry. Ginger and Carter both have specific goals in life, but attaining them is difficult. True friendship could be the answer to finding true happiness. Don't miss out on this fantastic read!
