Charlie Brooks is a newly-qualified elementary school teacher, but work is thin on the ground and a girl has got to eat. In the absence of other opportunities, she reluctantly takes a well-paid tutoring job in Bingham, Wyoming, but it's a far cry from the city life she's used to. Once there, she meets training veterinarian Sally Sinclair, who's spending summer back at home training horses. Sally isn't like the rest of this condescending, conservative town. She's free-spirited and warm - much like her young cousin Luke, who Charlie has been hired to tutor.
With beautiful Sally making an effort to keep her company, staying in the closet gets harder and harder in this town full of intolerance. Besides, Luke is in desperate need of guidance, and Charlie doesn't qualified to tell him to be brave unless she can be brave herself.
