Dubbed "The One and Only" by sportswriters, Chic Harley was a gentle, shy man and an amazing athlete. Only 5 ft.,8 in. tall, he could punt and pass with precision and run like slippery lightening. He inspired the funding for a new Ohio State stadium nicknamed "The House that Harley Built." But just before he signed with the team that would become the Chicago Bears, he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. There were harrowing years for Chic and his family but eventually his mental state improved enough for him to live with loving relatives. He is still honored at Ohio State and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1953. Perhaps his name will be bestowed on Ohio Stadium after all because of this perceptive, very readable book written by his great nephew, Todd Wessell.

The One And Only - Chic Harley was an inspirational read full of information I don't think anyone knew. I've often wondered about Chic Harley, who he was, what he was like. Now I know. I very much appreciate the author, a great nephew of Chic's, sharing his family story with the world. I highly recommend The One And Only - Chic Harley: America's Great Athlete
