Sinister and thrilling I like being surprised when I read, so I don't pay much attention to the synopsis or blurb for the books that I'm going to review. This book was one of those that grabbed the reader's attention. It was intense and sinister, looming darkness within the story. A great start for a new series, thoughtfully called "The Game of Life." I am a fan of Brook's previous work, and enjoyed her depth of writing and continuity. I look forward to reading my way through the entire novella series.

One Fear (The Game of Life Series Book 1) Belle Brooks When I bought this book, I was really unsure of what I was getting, but I figured for $0.99 I wouldn’t be out much if it was a disappointment. Let me tell you, it most assuredly was NOT. I would pay significantly more for this story. It was a well written piece. The characters were developed well, the story-line hooks you to the point you don’t realize you’re nearing the end until BLAM book over. I really enjoy these types of books, the psychological thrillers that twist and torment you. I also really like the alternating points of view. Ms. Brooks is very talented in that her writing evokes such fear over what is going to happen. It just grabs a hold and won’t let go.

Okay!!! I’m okay!!! I. Am. Okay. My hands are shaking and my freaking heart’s about to tear through my chest but I am okay. Why?? Because I’m not Belle Brooks, mastermind of this insidious hellish little story, nor am I, her heroine, although at the moment Morgan is as far removed from being a heroine as you can get. She ’s not a damsel but she sure as heck is in distress and danger. A lot of danger. Morgan was just living a normal live. She had a husband, Reid and two children, and a relatively new job. But, a long day at the office doesn’t end with dinner and bed. Instead Morgan is faced with a flat tyre, someone crashing into her and then being taken. Now she has to fight. To survive a madman’s games and discover her kidnapper’s identity before she stands a chance of escaping her hellish nightmare. And Reid? He waited and waited for Morgan to come home, but his night is almost as messed up as his wife’s. This book is truly a psychological thriller and much as I’m scared to read it,I can’t wait book#2 to find out what happens next.

OMG....this book was so amazing! This book grabs you from the beginning and leaves you with wanting more. Suspenseful, mysterious, angsty and frightening all in one book. This was a well-written fast read that I could not put down. Belle Brooks definitely knows how to intrigue her readers! I highly recommend this book to anyone!

First off, this is not a bad story in any way. It's just not my type of story. It's too intense for me. I like some suspense, but this was more than just intense. The Prologue confused me and I almost put the book down altogether. I think my brain just processes things differently and Prologues aren't the best for me. There were several times I didn't quite get what I was reading and had to go back and reread. I am not say don't read this book, but be aware that it is very intense with a sadistic protagonist and that's just too much for me.

Oh my goodness! This book makes short work of getting you totally invested in Morgan and The crazy madman who is terrorizing her. You will devour this book and be begging for the next bite. Prepare yourself because once again Miss Belle is going to try with your emotions and leave you breathless and addicted!

I knew Belle Brooks was a genius when it came to words, but I didn't realize just how evil she could be. Yes, I read Always You, but there was a beauty to that evil cry-fest. One Fear is different. So different and so good. I couldn't put it down, even when I had to get up and do real life things the book went with me. I'm so anxious for the second one because it just cannot end that way. I knew going in it was going to drive me crazy, but the not knowing what is really going on, the not knowing what is going to come next. Belle Brooks is going to drive me crazy. She's going to have be begging for book two. But maybe that's the point? She gives us a taste of this addictive new world and then before we can really sink our teeth into it she takes it away. Whatever the case, I applaud her and will sit here not so patiently waiting for the next one.

Let me start by saying that this wasn't what I was expecting, when I first picked it up. It's nothing like Belle's other work. This was suspenseful, keep you on your toes, leave you wanting ANSWERS, dammit, all-around great writing. Honestly, I'm not really one for dark, suspenseful books, but this one grabbed my attention from the beginning, and, now, I can't wait for the next book in the series. Thank you, Belle, for a entertaining story that I couldn't put down. Congratulations on your newest hit.

WOW! This book sucked me in from the beginning! I received an ARC of this and couldnt put it down! Holy smokes, the twists and turns had my heart pounding. I'm not putting any spoilers in here at all but I really need the next book! If you have to read a series, this is it for drama and action and heartfelt love. I consider it as a must read!

I went into One Fear essentially blind. I'd read some of Belle Brooks' work before and I liked what I read, so I grabbed up this book eagerly while having virtually no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew it was the first book in a series, and that it was supposed to be darker than what she'd written before, but beyond that, nada. What I found was the take of Morgan. Mother, wife, relatively newly back into the workforce. Accompanying that upheaval in her professional life is an equal yet opposite upending of her personal life. Established roles and expectations in her marriage have been turned on their ear, and things within her marriage are unsettled at best. So much so that her and her husband Reid didn't even exchange a kiss goodbye on the day she went to work and didn't make it home. A richly dark and intensely compelling read, this first entry in The Game of Life series follows not only Morgan as her day quickly escalates from bad to horrifyingly worse, but alternates that with glimpses of her husband who, for being so much better off than she, still finds himself making his way through one of the worst days of his life. With recriminations and second guessing, confusion, doubt and one seriously deranged individual, this book delves deeply into that emotion encapsulated in the title ... fear. For whatever it might say about me, I kind of loved it.

This was an interesting read. I really enjoyed the suspense behind it, and I found the first half of the book to go by really fast. It did seem to slow down quite a bit in the second half, as both main characters spent more time talking to themselves about what was going on and what they should do/should have done than any action that was taking place. I look forward to reading more of this series to see what happens next.

I love Belle’s books so I was beyond excited to start reading this one as it is a little different to her previous stories and what I’ve read before. I absolutely loved it. It was very well written that left me on the edge of my seat dying to know what happens next. I loved how intriguing and mysterious the Prologue was and I couldn’t wait to read the rest of the book. I’ve already started to love these characters in such a short time and I loved getting the 2 different POVs (although some parts told from Reid’s view had me a little annoyed and confused, I felt so sorry for him at times), it was great to read about what was happening with her and back home at the same time Can’t wait to find out more about these characters and their stories. The end of this book will have you dying for more (in a good way!) 4.5 stars

The first time I read a book by this author she bout did me in, this time it was a entirely different experience. The fear is palpable not just her fear but his. He uses her fear to get a reaction. "Whose afraid of the big bad wolf" he chants between chuckles. The wolf is real, as the 12 that came before her. This author walks us into the terror and plops us smack dab into it. She takes you right smack dab into this situation and lets you bleed. You will play this game whether you want to or not. Can you prove you aren't guilty. Will the big bad wolf use the one fear that can maim you or will you survive? Is there such a thing as surviving? Well this isn't a standalone so be forewarned and jump in eyes wide open into the game.

Are you scared of the big bad wolf? If you're not, who is? One Fear is the first in a novella series, so yes there is a cliff hanger! But it only leaves you feeling anxious for more. Morgan is a married Mom of two, marriage isn't what it used to be, communication isn't as good as it should be. After an argument with Reid (her Hubby) her whole world is turned upside down. I was hooked from word one, it's completely different from what I usually read, but not too far off of what interests me. Belle is an amazing author, she puts her heart and soul into her art and her talent to put thought to word impresses me so much. Thank you for allowing me to take this adventure with you.
