Synopsis:
The prequel novel to Betrayal’s Dust
Setting: Michigan; San Diego, CA; Mexico

MAIN CHARACTERS
Cyndarella (Cyn) Worthy, 32, owner of advertising agency, Peachtree Productions and dating auditor, Thad Mitchell, who’s divorced, with one young daughter. Daughter of Willa and Vernon Worthy and brother to Pete Worthy. Had a relationship with Chaldean immigrant Bashar Bazzi from her teens to her early twenties, but then Bashar went to Iraq and she never heard from him again. As Bashar’s family disliked her for being Black, Cyn assumed Bashar had dumped her and made an arranged marriage within his own community.

Tavie (Octavia) Slade, teacher, single. Currently dating school principal, Mack (Mackenzie) Dooley. Tavie has had a checkered love-life, including a broken engagement to New Orleans Saints star, Tyrone Sutton, who cheated with a call girl. Mack’s mother, Mrs. Dooley, disapproves of Tavie, as she thinks Tavie is not classy enough for her son and continually tries to set him up with other women.

Denise (Dee) Lincoln, creative director at Peachtree Productions. Married to Sean, one daughter, Marla (3). Denise isn’t keen to have another child just yet, though Sean wants to. Anyway, she is having trouble conceiving.

Vette (Corvette) Vern, the only White member of the group, she’s currently single but in a relationship with Louis Burns, who is twelve years her senior and has grown-up kids of his own. She owns a court reporting business. She has a troubled relationship with her mother, Tara, a surgical nurse, and was only reunited recently with her estranged father. Vette is inclined to gossip, which can get her into trouble.

The ladies have been the best of friends since junior high, and meet regularly to share the tears and triumphs, the playfulness and passion, and the ups and downs of their relationships with their men.

When the story opens, Cyndarella’s man, Thad, is away on business in Singapore. Cyn hears from Vette that her ex, Bashar Bazzi, is back in town. In 1991, Bashar went to Baghdad and though they had been living together, Cyn never heard from him again. She is thrown by this latest news, but when Thad returns from his trip and proposes marriage to her, she accepts. At their engagement party on St. Valentine’s Day, Thad behaves possessively about Cyn, which sows a small seed of doubt in Cyn’s mind.

About the Author

Hi. I'm Vina St. Fran, a Michigan native and I write contemporary romance stories for a mature audience. I am also Political Contributor for Examiner.com, which is an online news publication. Let me expound upon what drives me to write as an author. I like creating stories about powerful, kick-ass women who make it happen in the boardroom and the bedroom without apologies. You will find my novels may contain characters of different ethnic backgrounds who add spice to the plot, and makes for interesting reading. My female heroines are confident and charismatic, yet they are vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. The realism is heartfelt, for to love is to risk. They find certain situations push them to the brink of despair, yet in the middle of it all they manage to enjoy amazing, fulfilling sex lives with their significant others, which is thrilling and downright erotic. The end result is that the characters mature, and develop into stronger women.

Romance books are my absolute favorite genre to read. You get romance, and so much more in One Foot Outside The Door! I loved the bonds of friendship between the women in this story. This remains a central theme as the main character, Cyn manages the demons that plague her love life. She does it in a way that I found myself thinking of the friends that influence my life, and how they help hold me up at times when I need them. I fell for both of the men in Cyn's life. They both love her madly, but not to a point where you get lost in a plot that doesn't make sense. I laughed so hard in some parts that my husband  actually  plans on reading it as well! It's a nice touch about this being a prequel to the 2nd book , which I will definitely plan on reading. What really makes this an important book is how the author weaves a story around racism, and bigotry, and as a Vietnamese woman, I could identify with how one's ethnic group can be viewed when you date outside of your race. I read the other reviews, and yes, this book brings out  the sexual intensity  between the couples. Bashar and Cyn, are hot, hot, hot!

Lia Love Reviewer,  Fifty Shades of Yay!!! I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review of this novel. Little did I know I’d be in for such a thrill! The story takes place in suburban Detroit and involves the story of Cyndarella Worthy, who is a sultry, confident, and successful career woman. She has three best friends who have their own relationship problems and at times, they need to lean on each other. They’ve remained friends since junior high, yet despite their closeness, at times they tend to rub each other the wrong way.  Cyndarella’s handsome and tall lover , Thaddeus Mitchell asks her to marry him, and reluctantly she says, “Yes!” However, an explosive secret from Cyn’s past is revealed and she is forced to turn to her sworn enemy, her first love, Bashar Bazzi, an Iraqi gentleman who comes from a large Chaldean family after stumbling upon the truth. There is in undeniable sexual energy and chemistry that Cyn and Bashar shared, and at times, the scenes were written so intimate, and personal that I choked up and had anxiety wondering how the story would end. St. Fran’s descriptive lovemaking scenes at times, made me feel as if I were up close and right there in the moment with the characters in the story. This is a borderline erotic romance, yet it is a fascinating story  which embraces friendship, attacks racism, and makes you yearn for the sometimes coveted and illusive, “happily-ever after”that I recommend as a 5-star read.

Lacey Smalton Reviewer Midwest Book Review Reviewer's Choice March 2015 Genre: Contemporary Romance I am not a fan of most debut novels in which I have reviewed. I must warn you in advance that this is not the typical cookie-cutter Contemporary Romance novel you may currently find yourself reading! This is the 1st book installment of a trilogy. One Foot Outside The Door is a story about Cyndarella Worthy, a vibrant and beautiful African-American woman and her three best friends from childhood. They face the trials and tribulations of life, love, and romance, but not without angst. Cyndarella, the heroine of the story is successful in every area of her life, except in the love department, but her luck changes after a whirlwind relationship with Thad Mitchell, a handsome, African-American accountant in that she agrees to marry. However, Cyn's ex-boyfriend, Bashar Bazzi, a Chaldean gentleman of Iraqi descent returns and has other ideas about her new-found pending marital status. This book delves into the heartbreaking arena of the intense scrutiny and misconceptions involved in interracial dating. Yet, it embraces those struggles with such realism, grit and honesty, that this is truly a refreshing read from this new author. There is a true love story which unfolds here that entertains as well as educates. The storytelling is solid, focused, and downright unpredictable! The supporting cast of characters each with their own distinctive flavoring makes this a must-read book that I would highly recommend. The sex scenes are sensual, passionate, and SO frigging good because they reel you in with each scene from beginning to end. Hotness at the highest level! It is a game-changer! Can't wait to read the next installment!

One Foot Outside The Door had me from the first paragraph that grabs your attention right away! Cyndarella Worthy is that woman you want to be your best friend as she is to all of her girlfriends. The book has humor, as well as some smokin' hot love scenes in this book! Cyn's love life leaves is a mess, yet she is resilient. I rooted for Cyn and each of her lovers, and was glad that the author chose the ending she did!. Huge fan now!

The characters are believable and interesting, and I wish there had been more space in the book for more story! I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from this author. Thanks for the story. Must read to romance lover!
