This wasn't my favorite in the series. I had a hard time connecting with the plot concept. What Gabe did 7 or 9 years ago was noble, but in the end, he was married and had a fling with Lexi. It was a bold concept for a Deborah to tackle and I certainly commend her for breaking barriers; however, with my own past experiences, I couldn’t get behind this love story.  It does end well for all parties and Gabe and his wife Daphne definitely didn’t have a real marriage, but marriage is marriage. I’m also shocked at how calm Gabe was when he discovers Lexi’s big secret that concerns how they met the first time 14 years earlier. How can he be so calm about it? I’m trying not to give any details away, there are some doozies in this one. I liked Gabe and Lexi, it is just how he wasn’t honest up front with her when they get together until after the fact that I found to be messed up. He should have been honest and things should have been resolved before they took things to the next step.

This was a great, well-written contemporary romance. Lexi gives in and has a one night stand with her co-worker, Gabe. What she doesn't remember is that they met once before many years ago. Both have secrets the other does not know. The more I learned about each of them the more I liked them and the more I wanted to know. I enjoyed this book and would recommend the series to others.

Happy Dance, this is a second chance at love story, my favorite! Secret Heart Ink short stories are within Deborah Cooke's Flatiron Five series. These stories are about 3 friends who visit very famous Chynna's Tattoo Studio within Flatiron's business. On the full moon Chynna believes a little magic is imbued in her tattoo to bring true love to the wearer. These are delightful stories. This one is about the last friend, Lexi, who is lost and wants desperately to find change in her life's path. She used to be passionate about her dreams and ambitions and she's lost it. She's ready for change. Chynna advises her she must make peace with the past so she can move on to her future. No truer words have been spoken. Lexi goes back to her job at her brother's resort restaurant with a plan germinating. She decides to move on her attraction to Gabe, her brother's partner, and he responds after 2 years of flirting. Seems he's been waiting for her to remember their passionate night 14 years ago. Lexi remembers the night but being drunk, not who exactly was the man. The story goes on with wrong assumptions and roadblocks to these seeming star crossed lovers. I fell for Gabe hard. He's the most honorable Dudley Doright I have ever encountered, besides being really hot! I was so glad when finally everyone gets their happily ever after in the end. Thank you Deborah for the opportunity to ARC read this story for you. After the next book with Chynna's story I will be sorry to see this series end.

ONE HOT SUMMER NIGHT is the third instalment in Deborah Cooke’s contemporary, adult SECRET HEART INK slightly paranormal, erotic, romance series of novellas-a spin off from the author’s Flatiron Five series. This is artist and waitress Lexi , and Wolfe Lodge co-owner Gabe’s story line. ONE HOT SUMMER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Lexi and Gabe are connected through Lexi’s brother and Gabe’s business partner Spencer. SOME BACKGROUND: Secret Heart Ink is a tattoo shop, owned by the mysterious Chynna, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron Five. Along with her sidekick Tristan, during the full moon, Chynna creates one magical tattoo to set two hearts afire in the hopes of the recipient finding ever-lasting love. Told from several third person points of view including Lexi and Gabe ONE HOT SUMMER NIGHT follows the second chance romance between artist and waitress Lexi, and Wolfe Lodge co-owner Gabe. Fourteen years earlier Gabe had a one night stand with the woman of his dreams but a woman who disappeared in the blink of an eye. Fast forward to present day wherein Gabe, co-owner of Wolfe Lodge in Honey Hill, comes face to face with his past, his business partner’s sister Lexi, and the woman who is unaware of their previous connection. What ensues is Lexi’s seduction of our story line hero, and the potential fall-out as both keep secrets that could destroy their precarious hold on their new relationship. Lexi doesn’t believe in ever-lasting love after witnessing the break down and fall-out of her parents’ marriage. A one-night stand kind of girl Lexi’s attraction and seduction of Gabe is constantly rebuffed until Gabe succumbs to secrets yet revealed. Gabe refuses to talk about his complicated past, a past that will directly affect his relationship with the woman he has always loved. Taking the first step towards his happily ever after, Gabe is unprepared for the fall-out when Lexi runs without looking back. ONE HOT SUMMER NIGHT is a story of second chances; a rekindling, of a sort, for two people whose lives went in opposite directions eventually finding one another when the time was right. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is passionate; the characters struggle to move on from the past. Deborah Cooke invites the reader into a spirited yet tender, revealing and sensual tale of family, loss, commitment, and love.
