One is the first book in Jane Blythe’s new series called ‘Count to Ten’. It was the first book I read by this writer and she turned me into a true fan! I have already finished books two and three and cannot wait for the four and meanwhile, to get over the ‘Jane Blythe’ hangover, I will start with her Detective Parker Bell series! One is a beautiful sample of a well written suspenseful mystery blended with a bit of romance! Jane Blythe delivers what she promises! She has created an intense series of graphic and gripping serial killer(s) and if you in any way like the genre, you will be hooked from page one! You could not understand what the heck was going on and it makes you sitting on the edge of your seat and off you go on a rollercoaster! My gosh, the gore of the crime scenes, the words ‘paint’ such a vivid picture that it will haunt you for a while, trust me! So, One is the story of Annabelle Englewood, the sole survivor of a horrific slaughtering of her whole family and Xavier Montague who is one of the detectives working on the case, and then of course our killer and Xavier’s partner and … I loved how well the writer tied everything together, I don’t think anything was redundant or … there was great balance between suspense and gore and romance … Man, the road the writer took us on to the moment of finding out who the bloody killer was! All of the characters had their own backstory and the more the writer revealed about them, the more we understood why they were the way they were or … The book left such an impression on me that when I finished it round 1 am in the morning, I went and got the second book instantly (which I read the following day and then immediately went for the third and thank goodness it was a weekend so I could simply binge ….) I totally recommend the book and be prepared, you will want to continue counting ….

One (Count to ten #1) By Jane Blyth 4 Star Review One by Jane Blyth is a four star chilling, murder mystery. This story starts going right at the beginning and doesn’t stop till the end. It is a very dark and disturbing tale that kept me guessing who the killer was. Annabelle Englewood wakes up in the hospital and barely remembers the night before except that she was really tired after dinner and went to bed. She discovers that she is the only survivor of the gruesome murder of her family. Did she have anything to do with their deaths and if not, how did she sleep through the murder of her family. Detective Xavier Montague believes based on the evidence, that Annabelle is the murderer, except for looking into her eyes which tells a different story. But, as families are continually murdered, Xavier must put the pieces together. He also must deal with his growing feelings for Annabelle. How much is he willing to risk in solving these gruesome crimes? The author did an amazing job of creating a truly wicked serial killer. The way the author describes things adds to the horror of the crimes and creates a vivid picture in the readers mind. The story is a very twisted psychological thriller that is not for the faint of heart. It has everything that a reader would enjoy, a little bit of romance, suspense, mystery and of course the horrific serial killer on the loose. This story kept me on the edge of my seat.

One (Count to Ten Book 1) by Jane Blythe is the first book in her Count to Ten series. This book is a dark, suspenseful romance story that is full of action, danger and of course you can't miss the romance that tops it off. This is my first story by this author and one of my favorite things about her is her attention to detail. I also enjoyed the development of her characters and how true to life they were for me. All the characters had a connection which in turn made you connect with them. They will take you on a roller coaster ride that is full of twists and turns, you won't want to miss what is behind every corner. This story will keep you engaged until the end and will leave you wanting more. Find out what happens when a brutal murder is on a killing spree and one detective is determined to find them. What happens when one brutal murder of a family leaves on survive without any memory of it? Annabelle says she has no memory of that brutal night she lost all of her family. Will one detective believe her? But against his better judgment, he is drawn to her. Will this forbidden attraction force him to make a choice of a lifetime? Will he let the killer he has been searching for go free if he makes the wrong choice? This story is told in the point of view of three of the characters, the detective, the killer and Annabelle. Annabelle is kind of a mystery to the story throughout most of the story. We don't know a lot about her but what we do know is that she is kind of shy and feels safe when she is with the detective. The detective has some demons of his own that he is dealing with. He is committed to his job and thinks before he acts. The one thing that I don't think he has thought through so much is Annabelle. What will happen when he starts having feeling for her? He knows this is bad but his heart is telling him otherwise. Will he listen to his heart or reason? The killer's character is just pure evil. He has a plan and he plans to continue it unless the detective gets him first. When he puts the detective in a position that he needs to make a life and death choice, what will he do? Will everyone lose because of one choice or will the safe choice be made? These three are strong characters that while reading each POV it because a little confusing sometimes who is talking when and I had to read it twice but I did enjoy all of these characters. I thought that the way the author had all three POVs in this story was great. You get to see three different sides of the same story. It keeps the story flowing until the end and will make you want to see more from these characters. They each had their own personality that you will enjoy and getting inside the killer is a little freaky but it was great. Find out what happens with the detective and Annabelle and if they are able to find the killer before he is able to carry out his entire plan. This is my first story by Jane Blythe and I know it won't be the last. I can't wait to see what book 2 has in story for us. Jane has loved reading and writing for as long as she can remember. When she is not writing she loves to read, eat anything that is chocolate, go to the beach, ski, horse back ride and watch Disney movies. You will enjoy that she has created a fast paced story that will keep you reading until the end. You will find yourself not being able to put this book down. You will want to see what is lurking behind every page you turn. I highly recommend

5 Stars One is the first book in the Count to Ten Series by Jane Blythe. It is a gripping, raw and chilling story that is full of suspense, mystery and drama as we follow the serial killer, the victims and the police through the story and the investigation. There is an insta-love aspect to the story, as well as a forbidden attraction/romance. The story starts with the grisly murder of a family while they slept peacefully in their beds. When they are found, the police discover that one of the victims has survived the ordeal, but only just. Annabelle Englewood is a twenty-three year old kindergarten teacher who wakes up in hospital with no recollection of how or why she is there. But, even with all the evidence pointing to her as the possible killer in some sort of crazy murder/suicide spree- she will need to convince the police of her innocence. Detective Xavier Montague is shocked by the gruesome killings and makes it his mission to unravel the mystery and bring the killer to justice. Even with the evidence pointing at Annabelle, he still feels a connection to her that he can’t deny. He has a painful past that he fears may be part of the reason for being drawn to this beautiful suspect. But as the story develops and he speaks with Annabelle, he can’t help believing her plea of innocence. When other families are also murdered, the story takes on a whole new and more intense level that had me avidly tearing through the pages- discovering clues, collecting evidence and formulating possible motives and suspect lists, along with the police, in an endeavour to determine who the killer really is. Is Annabelle a cold and calculating killer whose cunning has us believing her tale of innocence? Or is there a more evil and depraved killer out there with their own twisted agenda? With danger closer than anyone can imagine, can they unravel all the clues and figure it all out before it’s too late? Can they outwit the killer and stay one step ahead of the danger? What an exciting, well written and clever story. Ms. Blythe kept me guessing the whole way through to the end. She really has a knack for writing suspense- as she builds the tension and excitement superbly, as well as imbuing the whole thing with incredibly chilling and creepy overtones. The characters were fully developed, interesting and completely believable. The police investigative procedures added depth and interest to the story, and the way Ms. Blythe opened a window into the mind of deranged killer was quite disturbing, but also showcases her masterful writing skills. This is the first time I have read any of Ms. Blythe’s work and it certainly won’t be the last. I am happy to add her to my list of ‘must read’ authors! If you enjoy a suspenseful, gritty and captivating murder mystery with a forbidden romance woven through it, then this is definitely the book for you. I highly recommend this entertaining read and can’t wait to read more of this series! Thank you Ms. Blythe!

One (Count to Ten Book 1) by Jane Blythe 5 Stars I'll start by saying I don't read these type of books, something about the synopsis of this book caught my interest and I thought what the heck….this book has everything in it that normally keeps me from reading this type of story...key word there is “normally”! From page 1 my emotions started going on a speeding roller coaster ride. I am officially a hot mess and can't rave enough at how well this book was written, even though the subjects and details were hard to read they were written perfectly. I kept flip flopping with who I thought it was, I thought I had it figured out every other page then nope wrong again. All I can say now is that I CAN NOT WAIT to read the rest of this series. This author is amazing and from here on I will be watching for everything she writes. Annabelle is the sole survivor of a horrific murder spree that took all of her family members and wakes to find herself handcuffed to her hospital bed. Xavier and his partner Kate are the detectives assigned to the horrific crime. Xavier finds himself drawn to Annabelle for reasons he can't explain. His partner Kate is convinced he isn't over losing his wife yet and that he still hasn't dealt with all of the horrible details involved with that so she worries about him showing any interest in Annabelle. Annabelle doesn't date, never has and never will for her own reasons that stem from her past. Now waking to find that she is the one the police suspect committed this horrible crime is almost more than she can take, even when Xavier tells her he believes she didn't do it, she can't believe he would think her capable of such a thing. He shouldn't feel attraction to this girl, it isn't right...she shouldn't feel safe with him, it goes against all her rules with men. When he is forced to make a decision that could mean life or death, will he choose to save a life and let a murderer run free or take a chance on adding to the murder count? I won't write anymore because there is too much and I don't want to give anything away..this book is too good for that. It does deal with some tough issues, but again I think were written very very well. I highly recommend this book!!

Annabelle awakens to find her family brutally murdered and herself as the prime suspect in Detective Xavier Montague’s investigation. But all is not as it appears and the detective soon finds himself falling for her as a crazed killer remains at large. The author takes you to the dark side in this macabre murder mystery. Her main character’s, Annabelle and Xavier are genuine, flaws and all. And the killer is not easily identified and has a motive you won’t see coming. From the beginning, I was sucked right in. Annabelle is the obvious suspect for her families brutal murder. How could she sleep through the events? But it isn’t long before the detective investigating the case has doubts. It seems Annabelle might have been drugged. And his hunch may be right as more fall victim to a sadistic killer. The investigation kept me burning the midnight oil. Anxious to see who the killer was and what his twisted motive was in leaving one victim alive as he killed more families. As I came to know Annabelle and Xavier my curiosity about them grew. Why did Annabelle feel unlovable and what haunted Xavier from his past? Fans of reality based crime shows and fictional ones like Criminal Minds will love this pulse pounding thriller.
