Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door's peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She's also a bit sexually-frustrated.

Until ...

God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota's NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.

It was one day.
One moment.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.

His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.

When life finally gives them their chance, it's a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.

"We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger."

***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.

I just realized I never reviewed this amazing story so I'm taking a moment to do so. This story is a spin-off of the "Jack and Jill" series. Because of the way it's written, I recommend reading Jack and Jill first - it will give you a much better understanding feelings and events that take place in ONE. Lake and Cage - wow - what a pair these two make. He is a professional football player and she is also a professional athlete disguised as a superhero who tests outs prosthetic legs while she scales rock walls and swims miles and miles. She is also a professional at "peephole Olympics" and likes to keep herself occupied with her neighbor who she has lovingly nicknamed "Kong" (so looking forward to reading his story in the future). Lake and Cage have a past. A past that is very brief but very is integral in how they interact with each other a few years later. It was "one day, one kiss, one moment, one unforgettable memory." This story is told with romance and humor and a hairless cat. It's sexy and swoon-worthy and proof that one should never settle for less. As with all of Jewel E Ann's books, I highly recommend this entertaining story.

Wow I loved loved this book so much! I wasn't super happy about that ending...idk I guess i wanted to see cage keep playing (that's the crazy football fan in me) but I can overlook that minor detail because Cage and Lake just were so perfect!!!

In my mind, humor and angst go hand in hand with Jewel E. Ann’s books. One is a bit of a departure for her. It’s a sports romance that has all the wit, but none of the gut wrenching, anxiety producing conflicts I’ve come to expect. This book proves that Jewel can write lighthearted romantic comedy very well while maintaining an extremely touching quality. What can I say about Cage, the hunky superstar quarterback with a huge heart? He’s an ice cream sundae with all the toppings. You’d have to be without a pulse if his romantic gestures and smooth lines don’t make you swoon. “I love you in a way that feels so much bigger than four little letters.” Lake is one fierce woman: independent, confident, and bold. I love that she’s a survivor who doesn’t let her tragedies or disability define her. To say she’s also a little quirky is the understatement of the year. She has no impulse control when it comes to her words, and the things that fly out of her mouth are alternately hilarious and cringe worthy. The blurb mentions Cage’s girlfriend. I know some readers are prickly when it comes to cheating, so let me just clarify that there is no cheating in this book. While the chemistry between Lake and Cage is intense, One is low on steam, with bedroom scenes that are more of the fade to black variety. This is a sexy but sweet romance. Shayna—the adorable little girl who lives across the hall from Lake—will definitely steal your heart. What detracted from the story for me is that both Cage and Lake engage in some irrational and uncharacteristic behavior in the second half of the book. Fortunately, things get back on track and it’s a really enjoyable ride to the finish. The ending is absolute perfection. Fans of the amazing Jack & Jill trilogy will appreciate the mini-reunion with characters from those books. One is a standalone spinoff; however, it contains spoilers from the Jack & Jill series so I recommend you read those books first.

One of the best books I have read this year! I have been waiting for more of Lake and Cage since the end of the Jack and Jill series. I love Lake and Cage together, they are so good for each other. I don't want to let them go, and would love to read even more about them. F*** Gravity! Safe.

Often in books it isn’t difficult to fall for the male lead, but just as frequently, I’m indifferent to the female lead or actually don’t even like her. I adore Lake. She is amazingly awesome. I have a huge lady crush on her. One really takes the reader inside Lake’s head, and it’s a pretty decent place to be. She’s relatable, sincere and the owner of an excellent sense of humor. Cage is super man candy. He’s a hot NFL quarterback, but his best asset has to be the sweetness factor. I could skip dessert indefinitely with Cage in my life. The author delivered a major case of the feels with this story. It’s filled with much of everything the heart needs. Romance readers prepare for greatness. I majorly loved this book, the plot, the characters, everything.

“One day. One Kiss. One Moment. One unforgettable memory.” One, is one of the greatest love stories I’ve read. It’s a Romantic Comedy but its so much more than that. It’s everything. I never expected that Lake and Cage’s story would continue. I’m thankful Jewel gave this piece of them. They met by chance on the search for Jessica/Jillian. But they knew in that moment.. That it was fate, destiny, whatever you wanna call it. They were meant for each other. Both have experienced some form of a tragedy. Lake losing a part of her self in a tragic accident, she couldn’t control. Cage losing a part of himself, after his father passed. But they didn’t let it define them. They were both in their own ways survivors. I loved Lake and Cage. They are by far two of my favorite characters. And it’s impossible not to love them, for all that they are. Jewel’s writing really had me in awe. I’ve read many of her books and I feel that with every book, she just gets better and better....Lissa

v4.5 stars--ONE by Jewel E. Ann is a contemporary, adult, stand alone/spin off, romance story focusing on NFL rookie quarterback Cage Monaghan, and Lake Jones. Cage is the son of JT Monaghan, and Lake is the sister of Luke Jones both characters previously introduced in Jewel’s Jack and Jill series. The story line advances the Jack and Jill series and events several years. Told from dual first person points of view (Cage and Lake) ONE is a story of second chances. Years earlier, Lake and Cage met at Cage’s father’s funeral, and although neither one was thinking about the future, one kiss meant everything to our leading couple. Fast forward several years, where Cage is now a starring quarterback in the NFL, and Lake is a cover model for cutting-edge prosthetics. What ensues is a rekindling of attraction, and a second chance for two people whose lives connected through grief, loss and the feisty Jillian Knight aka Jessica Day three years before. Cage never forgot the ‘one’ that got away; and Lake has never forgotten their forbidden kiss. ONE is an inspiring and endearing story of romance; a seduction of the mind; a tale that will awaken the heart and the soul. Jewel E Ann’s ONE is an emotional free fall where one man has found the person that completes his life; where one woman who has fought against the odds, has survived to grab hold of the stars, reaching for the moon and taking a chance on the future. Cage and Lake’s chemistry is unmistakable; their sexual attraction is off the charts. There are plenty of humorous moments; witty banter and sexual innuendo enveloped by a love story meant to arouse the senses. The premise is brilliant and wondrous; the characters are incredible, impulsive and dynamic; the romance is heartwarming, captivating and emotional. ONE is a truly, spectacular story; a well written and imaginative tale about two people destined by fate whose lives connected three years earlier through grief and loss. Jewel E Ann’s writing is intoxicating; the words on the page but a path to beautiful tale.

Ladies, there's a new bbf in town and his name is Cage Monaghan...and he is EVERYTHING , everything I tell ya! I want to be loved the way he loves Lake. One is pretty much perfection in my book- I adored every single thing about it. Every.Single.Thing. I want to hold this book and hug it and never let it go. Lake and Cage are the ultimate, ideal couple. I love strong, independent, fiesty female characters and Lake was all that and more. Cage, God, what to say about Cage without drooling all over myself. He's perfection personified, he really and truly is. He's kind and caring, he loves with his whole being. I want him for myself. But not really, because he's the one for Lake. Jewel has completely outdone herself with this book.

I love Lake Jones. I have a serious girl crush on her. I cannot even begin to express how glad I am that Jewel E. Ann decided to take the scene from Dawn of Forever, when Lake and Cage met, and give them a second chance because not only did they deserve it, the world needs more characters like Lake in it. A survivor who owns her personal brand of crazy, who’s not afraid to live because she’s afraid of being embarrassed, and whose mouth gets away from her in the most hilarious of ways. More importantly, someone who understands how unpredictable life is and loves with her whole heart because of it. While One is a spin-off of the Jack & Jill series, it is not a romantic suspense novel. It’s a contemporary romance with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and steam. It is not a fluffy romance because both Cage and Lake have baggage, and because their past is entwined due to an extremely intense situation, their related baggage is rather significant – and is why you shouldn’t read this first book if you plan on reading the Jack & Jill series. Yet despite the people that connect their pasts, they cannot resist fanning the flame that was struck between them three years earlier. Even though Cage’s position as Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback and the fame, groupies, and crazy schedule that come with it serve as obstacles for them to overcome, it is the minefield of who Cage’s father and Lake’s sister-in-law were that may be the biggest hurdle in their relationship. Yet even as they navigate the rocky road they find themselves on, balancing Cage’s football career and Lake’s fitness modeling with their developing relationship won’t be easy, but neither of them is willing to waste their second chance. So while the tabloids trump up stories about affairs and they each experience demands within their career they weren’t expecting, they hang onto their time together almost desperately, because both understand that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Even as they strive to take life one moment, one chapter at a time, Cage and Lake are reminded more than once that some moments are only fleeting, no matter how hard you hold onto them. This won’t be a shocker to anyone who as read Ann’s writing, but I cried. More than once. I actually bawled at the beginning of chapter thirty-eight and didn’t even know for sure what was happening. Why? Because I do believe in premonitions and Cage’s opening of that chapter ripped my heart out. That wasn’t the only time I cried, just the time I cried the hardest. Just like Lake and Penny’s conversations had me cracking up nearly every time they occurred, it was Trzy crashing Kong’s party that had me laughing the hardest. As for the moment that elicited the strongest combination of tears and laughter – Cage’s announcement at the end of the book and his inclusion of a visual aide. But this is why I love Ann’s writing so much, she makes me laugh and cry (separately and at the same time), she makes me fall in love, she breaks my heart and she heals it…she makes me FEEL. One is yet another excellent addition to Jewel E. Ann’s body of work and I’m looking forward to the book’s release so I can get my hands on the final copy in order to read the bonus epilogue. Well played, Ann. Well played. I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
