A guilt-driven firefighter, a widowed mother, neither is ready for love, but love has other plans.

Firefighter Lucas Bennett had the carefree life he'd always wanted until a deadly blaze took the life of his company mate and best friend. Blaming himself was easy but pulling himself from the tailspin of guilt proved to be much harder. The fog of sadness and guilt pushed him down a dangerous path until he nearly died fighting the beast. Forced to stop and reevaluate his life, he decided to make a change before it was too late.

A fire took almost everything from Sarah Robinson--her husband and her home--leaving her to raise their precious daughter alone. Everywhere she looked held memories of her husband, pouring salt on her ever-present wound. Unable to live any longer around the memories of her husband, she and her daughter moved to Oak Grove, far away from the grief of the past. All Sarah needed was the chance to start a new life for her and her daughter.

A car accident on a dark, rainy night put Lucas and Sarah on a collision course neither of them expected... with questions they're not ready to answer. Can a single mother open her broken heart for a second chance at love? Will a broken firefighter risk his heart for what might be his only chance at forever? Are each of them willing to take one last risk to be together?

His risk. Her reward. Together, they'll mend each other's broken hearts.

How do you begin a review on a book that had you laughing, crying, cheering, wondering, and droves of other emotions? I had the privilege of getting a chance to read an advance copy of “One Last Risk” from Ms. Stopper - thank you. Sarah has lost her husband in a fire. She moved with their daughter Lily to start anew. Lucas lost his best friend in a fire and suffers from survivor’s guilt and blames himself. In a chance meeting in a coffee shop, sparks fly immediately. Lucas is holding something back from Sarah and their relationship escalates before he has a chance to tell her. Is the truth going to get Lucas set free or will Sarah deal with the truth? Loved Lucas’ and Sarah’s story! There were many other characters introduced that will make for interesting stories. Nice, fast-paced read that will leave you ending with a sigh looking for the next book in the series.

Lucas and Sarah are emotionally raw from the loss of loved ones. Sarah finds comfort in her memories and her precious daughter. These two meet by chance and are drawn to one another immediately, Sarah is blubbering mess and he's very interested, lol. As they ease into a relationship, they have the chemistry, their path is very interesting and a little curvy but Lucas tenacity is what keeps this cookie from crumbling. Sarah has got to decide for herself if this love is worth the risk or will she continue to run and hide from the gift of life. PS. This is not a cliffhanger but I would really like to know what is going on with his sister Rachel, it seems serious. I would provided a copy of the ebook by Candid Book Reviews in exchange for my honest review.

Fierce and beautiful story This is a very heart warming story of second chances in love. It is very emotional, fierce and such a beautiful story. I so loved this book. Lucas and Sarah are both afraid to move on due to the fatalities of their co-worker and husband. One last risk is what it takes for these two to hold on to their feelings and fight to survive their relationship. I loved the intimate scenes as well. It well written beautifully and so hot too. Phew! I could need a cold shower to cool me off. I cannot wait to read the next book of this series.

Sarah Robinson has moved with her four-year-old daughter Lily to Oak Grove for a fresh start as a widow and single Mom. She isn’t looking for a man or a relationship although she knows she has to move on and start living again. Fate puts Lucas Bennett in her path at the local coffee shop and bakery. He makes her heart skip a beat and her skin tingle. Their meeting is short and neither one of them know quite what to say. Fate once again steps in when Sarah is involved in a horrific car accident and Lucas is the EMT that saves her and stays with her overnight while she is in the hospital. Their relationship starts slow and is super sweet but both of them have an internal monologue that is riddled with guilt and uncertainty. I was disappointed in Lucas’s lack of honesty, letting Sarah believe he was an EMT instead of a firefighter, especially after he learned that she lost her first husband (who was a firefighter) in a fire. At the end of the story, once each of them has come to terms with their own private struggles, they come together with love and understanding. The marriage proposal was perfect – and it was the perfect ending to the story!

Oh my gosh, this book is worthy of 10 stars!! I was hooked from the being, fell in love with Lucas and cried my eyes out towards the end. The author did a number on my emotions with this book. I loved all the characters and can see many more books for the Oak Grove series, The story is about a firefighter, Lucas Bennett, who recklessly puts himself and his crew in a dangerous position during a fire because he is still guilt ridden over the death of his best friend. His captain suspends him from firefighting but allows him to remain as a paramedic. Meanwhile, Sarah Robinson, is suffering from the death of her husband in a fire. She has lost the love of her life and moves to Oak Grove with her young daughter to start a new life.. Lucas and Sarah met and immediately both are smitten with each other. But can they get together and leave all the pains they each carry and make something of their lives. You just have to read it!

I loved One Last Risk and couldn't wait for this next in the series. I was a little worried about the situation with the Bennett men and how they were handling a dicey issue with their sister but we get a lit more back ground and a lot more detail into what is going on with her through out this book which focuses on Joey Bennett and Brittney Carlson. Joey isn't interested in any kind of relationship after Shelby shattered his heart 6 years ago. She couldn't handle staying in their small town so she left it and him for the big city. Until now occasional hook-ups have worked just fine. When he sees a beautiful brunette in his bar and grill hanging out and dancing with her friends all other thoughts seem to evade him. When a hard knock on his door after closing time finds that same woman looking for her purse he's more than pleasantly surprised. Brittney has worked hard to put herself through college and she's proud of the degree she earned as an architect. New York is everything she has ever wanted. Coming to Oak Grove to visit her friend is great but small town living is not now, nor will it ever be something in her future. She grew up in a similar small town, one where she couldn't escape the nightmares there fast enough. But a late evening chatting with the owner and then one dance before she leaves has both Brittney and Joey thinking that everything they ever thought they wanted may just have been a fantasy. The journey these two go on to find their way past the damage done to them years before will be a challenge but one they will find well worth the effort. I loved the build up of this relationship, the wonderful community and friendships of this small town, and the amazing writing that takes us on a wonderful ride with these two. I was anxious and glad to also get a glimpse of the next book which focuses on Rachel and Sawyer. Can't wait!

I really enjoyed the story of Lucas and Sarah. Both are scarred by deaths due to a fire and are looking to move on but neither is quite sure how to do that.

There is nothing that compares to small town romance. The deeper connections between the long time residents. The nosy neighbors that look out for one another. Big city heartache is a regular resident in small town love, but the abundance of heart never dwindles, Nancy Stopper, pushes all my buttons with One Last Risk. Lovable characters, beautiful surroundings and hard learned lessons are prevalent. Yet, she still manages to keep the feeling of devotion, hope and healing that I love so much. Sarah and Lucas are two ships set adrift in lonely waters. Grief has been a constant friend. Will a chance encounter between the firefighter and the single mom, give them a chance to start over again?

I have read a lot of firefighter romance novels and there are the ones that are light and fluffy and mainly about the sex appeal of a man in uniform. Then there are those that are filled with angst and darkness of PSTD and the dangers of the job. I was happy to find out, that One Last Risk is neither one of those but takes the best of each of the sides and finds its own way. While it has light, fun, and flirty moments that made me smile and laugh, it also deals with serious issues of loss and learning to live again when a loved one has passed away. The character development was well done and part of the force moving the plot forward. The townfolks of Oak Grove are charming and enjoyable. With the mix of sweet and sassy, caring and bantering the Bennett family allured me in, and I believe this will be a lovely and lively series for all the small town romance fans. Lucas Bennett was a complex hero easy to fall for. He is a protective daredevil, he loves his job, loves to help people. He is great with kids, he is kind to strangers, he is considerate and even sweet when the right woman comes along. I loved Lucas and Sarah together. The sparks are flying, the chemistry is hot. Yet there are many moments where they get to know each other, where they take long walks in the park and talk about life, loss, and love. Sarah Robinson is a tough lady. She is a survivor, with spunk, and determination. She has a big, loving heart, her kindness winning the town folks over immediately. Her daughter is a sweetheart with cuteness overflowing. With the past of loss that Lucas and Sarah have, a relationship doesn't come as easily to them as it seems on the surface. They have to work over the obstacles and find the courage to face the truth, make compromises and learn to accept, forgive, and move on. One Last Risk is a captivating and absorbing story that was easy to get lost in. The alluring characters with interesting history, the family with a tight bond, the sensuous yet tender romance, and a little girl in a tutu won my heart with the rich feelings and emotions they brought to the tale. There were smiles, sighs, laughs, and even tears. This is a swoon worthy, engaging, emotion-filled story that left me hankering for more about the Oak Grove and the Bennetts ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side *Thankful for the NetGalley eARC*

Two people who have both lost almost everything in a fire have a chance meeting at the local bakery. The attraction was immediate, the sparks were obvious, yet they were both cautious. Neither were looking for a relationship and both had demons to fight. I really liked that they didn’t just fall into bed. They worked up to it, they dated, they got to know each other, and they included Sarah’s daughter into their relationship. It was interesting to see them circle each other, sneak around a little, and figure out how to make a relationship with a child involved work. The little town of Oak Grove was amazing. The cobblestone walks, the cottages, the one truck fire stations are all parts of a small town. Nancy Stopper did a wonderful job of portraying this cute town. Oak Grove is a place where everyone knows everyone and there are no secrets. I could picture living here with Lucas and Sarah. Thank you Nancy Stopper for a copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

I loved One Last Risk by Marilyn Stopper, the first book in her new Oak Grove series. In this introductory story we meet two people affected by death of loved ones in a fire. Lucas Bennett lost his best friend and fire fighter partner when he was killed while clearing a house on fire. Lucas feels guilty and at fault for this loss. Sarah Robinson lost everything except her young daughter when a fire burned down her house and killing her husband. Sarah decides she needs a fresh start by moving to small town Oak Grove. Sarah being injured in a car accident sets up the beginning of a friendship with EMT Lucas. Ms. Stopper wrote a wonderful story about putting hearts on the line and taking chances. Through this story she showed how these two could come to terms with their grief and find a way to have a happy ever after. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I am looking forward to the next entry in the Oak Grove series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Small town romance set in Oak Grove. Sarah, young widow with small daughter wants to start her life over after loosing her husband in a fire. Shortly after moving to Oak Grove she is involved in a car accident when Lucas, EMT/Firefighter rescues her. Lucas has his own demons after loosing his best friend in a house fire. A budding relationship develops but Lucas is keeping one secret from Sarah, will it make it or break it for them. Great characters that are both fighting their own demons but come to terms with their pasts. I fell in love with both Sarah and Lucas, both very strong. Lucas willing to give up what he has to win over Sarah. Sarah's daughter, Lily is so cute too. I highly recommend this story, looking forward to my next visit to Oak Grove.

This is the first of Nancy Stopper's series about Oak Grove, a wonderful and friendly city where the Bennett family lives. This book is about Lucas and Sarah, he is a firefighter struggling with some hard issues and she is a single mother trying to overcome her pain and raising an adorable daughter. Their attraction is immediately, but they have to develop trust to one another due to their struggles. This is a romantic, sexy, beautiful book about love, family and the support we need from friends and the community. I think the series has started with a very good tone!

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review. Sarah a widow and her 4 year old daughter move to Oak Grove to remove themselves from their tragic past. Lucas Bennett born in Oak Grove has a past that is full of guilt. Can secrets and there past overcome their attraction to each other. This is the first full book for this new series and I can’t wait to read what happen to the Bennett family and friends next. I really enjoyed the book and the sweet town its set in. Both main characters have had their problems and issues to overcome to find true love. Is it too soon for Sarah to be interested in anyone else other than her past husband? Lucas has already decided with his job he can’t afford to have someone lose him in the line of duty like his best friends family did. Your heart will break, laugh, cry and love with these characters while you read this wonderful story that Nancy Stopper as written.
