One Night in Reno (The Silver Strand Officers' Club) by Rogenna Brewer

Life is full of unexpected turns…

Jenny Albright’s gas tank runs as dry as her luck in the Nevada desert. Until Chief Petty Officer Garrett “Itch” Erickson swoops in to rescue her, her young son and their beagle pup. Accepting help from the Navy SEAL might be the best decision Jenny’s made in a long time.

Garrett sees his past in the single mom’s not-so-bright future.  But does his offer to marry Jenny—until she lands on her feet—come from a sense of duty or the need to be rescued himself? When Jenny’s past catches up to them—for better or for worse—their marriage of convenience is put to the test.

I loved this quick romance! It's a great story of a man who stops to help a woman whose car has broken down. He gets it started for her but sees it is not going to last long. He stays with her and her son (and dog) and very quickly marries her in order to give her and her son some security. Although bound in a short page count, the main characters in this novella are quite well developed. I appreciated the fact that the male lead was a charming, witty, all around nice guy who was also quite the alpha male without being domineering. He was the perfect man, without seeming overly perfect. By paring him with a woman who was very determined to provide for her son, but having trouble doing that, the author has created characters that you can’t help but get into. The ending was quite abrupt which surprised me because of the detail in the rest of the story. Even with that one 'flaw' I wish the story had been longer than a novella. I struggled between rating this story between 4 and 5 stars.  Because of the abrupt ending, I decided on 4.5 stars. I highly recommend this quick read.

I really liked this story, everything just happened way to quickly for it to be believable to me. The whole meet my fiance', meet my wife was weird for me too. I loved the action and the back and forth with the hero and heroine.

Lucky penny and luck $20. Man meets woman with a son. She's on the run and he's falling in love. Quick romance. Thought there would be more military and connections with other stories.
