One Night Love Affair (Mirabelle Harbor, Book 5) by Marilyn Brant

ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIR is Book 5 in Marilyn Brant's Mirabelle Harbor series, but this book and all of the contemporary romances in this series can be enjoyed as stand-alone stories.

*Note: This is a steamy romantic novella with adult language and situations, and it's intended for mature audiences.*

After her first marriage ended in a divorce that left her heart in tiny shreds, Sharlene Michaelsen Boyd vowed to keep her distance from men, at least emotionally. An occasional one-night stand wasn't out of the question, though, and with her closest friends hooking up with new loves, she finds herself in the mood for a little male company... Being the only sister with four brothers, not to mention the glue holding the Michaelsen family together after the death of their parents, Shar is used to being strong and in control. She's a junior high English teacher who's persuasive, personable, and who knows just about everyone in the center of Mirabelle Harbor society, including her brother Blake's super-sexy buddy, Declan Night.

As a former pro hockey player turned sportswriter and businessman, Dec has had his share of relationships, mostly meaningless, short-term flings. He always thought Blake's little sister was a hottie, but he knew she was off limits--until one Friday night when the stars aligned and the opportunity to hook up presented itself. Shar's intentions couldn't have been clearer: This was for One Night Only. But, for the first time in his life, Dec wonders if, maybe, there isn't something to be said for sticking with just one woman. Especially if that woman knows how to fulfill his every sensual fantasy.

Could one sizzling night turn into a love that has a shot at lasting forever? ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIR, a Mirabelle Harbor story.

Story Excerpt:
The only excuse Shar could give for what she said next was that she'd had half a bottle of wine at The Lounge, one jumbo margarita and three whiskey sours here at Max's, and she hadn't gotten laid in more months than she could count. Her ability to think straight was definitely impaired and her willingness to filter her thoughts was even more limited.

"What's stopping us from sleeping together?" she asked him. "I mean, Dec--" She glanced around the room. "Aside from you, there's no one here that I'd want to pick up. You're hotter than anyone else in the bar. It's only because of Blake that I wouldn't flirt with you."

"Same here!" Dec banged the bar counter with his fist for emphasis, making their drink glasses rattle. "I would've hit on you in a heartbeat, Shar," he sort of slurred. "Because you're a seriously sexy woman. But Blake--man, he'd have my head. He told me, like four or five years ago, that he'd kick my ass if I touched you or even looked at you funny. And I believed him. So that was that. I mean--"

"Wait. My brother told you not to go near me? Not to touch me?"

"Damn right he did. Why d'ya think I never flirted with you? I'd already lost a couple of teeth in hockey games. I didn't wanna lose any more."

Shar sighed. "Well, Blake's interference when it comes to you is ridiculous," she said, feeling the full force of indignation hitting her. "We can make out or hook up if we want to and not be stupid about it or get overly attached or anything." A statement that seemed to make perfect sense after multiple drinks and very few hours of sleep.

"I know, right? We should show 'em how it's done," Dec suggested.

"Yeah," she said.

"Yeah," he replied. Then he set down his almost empty whiskey glass and eyed her warily. "Sharlene, do you really mean that?"

A steamy quick read that takes us back to Mirabelle Harbor. Sharlene and Dec have always been off hands. Dec is Sharlene's brother's best friend and is know as a playboy. She is just looking for one night of fun after a recent divorce but will one night of sexy fun be enough for Sharlene and Dec. Dec is use to one night stands but soons finds out that Sharlene might be the answer to all of his sexual needs. This is part of series but can be read as stand alone. Can be read in one sitting. I highly recommend this story along with the rest of the Mirabelle Harbor stories.

In two words, LOVED IT! In a few more words... Shar and Dec WERE made for each other, if not from the start then definitely from experience. Yeah, Blake (older, protective brother) called it like he saw them and was right... though how, and why, you'll have to discover on your own. I love how these strong personalities were able to make a non-commitment commitment at first, and then when the flames of love tried to burn through their defenses... well, let's just say they were equally prepared to put them out or let them burn. The outside intrusions throughout their weekend added humor as well as another depth of love because so many cared for and about them. It gave the story more depth, something a lot of novellas lack with the space/word count they are given, and though they often leave me wanting (and I would totally adore a longer novel to flesh out the story more and really get into the lives of these fab characters), I wasn't disappointed here in the least. Highly recommended for ADULT contemporary romance fans (definitely some smexy times!) and while it is part of a series, it works perfectly well as a stand alone. **copy received in exchange for my honest review... full post can be seen on my site the first week of March

I had fun reading One Night Love Affair by Marilyn Brant, the fifth book in her Mirabelle Harbor series. It is a wonderful, yet sexy story that focuses on Sharlene Michaelsen Boyd and Declan Knight taking a chance on not getting caught having a one night stand. Declan is best friends with Sharlene’s brother who has warned each of them to not get involved with the other. Each has been hurt in a previous relationship; Sharlene by her cheating ex-husband and Declan by a former fiancée. Both are commitment-phobes and go into this hook up knowing all of this about each other. However, one night turns into two, which turns into three, which then becomes let’s see what happens. This was a sexy, fun, and entertaining story with very likeable and authentic characters you want to cheer on, hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I truly enjoyed the manner Ms. Brant handled the sex and the bedroom games these two played as well as their concern regarding the feelings they were having for each other. I enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. I recommend this book to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
