One Night with a Rake by Connie Mason, Mia Marlowe

For King and Country, Three Notorious Rakes Will Put All Their Seductive Skills to Work.

After All, The Fate of England's Monarchy is in Their Hands.

Since the death of his fiancée, Nathaniel Colton's polished boots have rested beneath the beds of countless wayward wives and widows of the ton. He's careful to leave each lady smiling, and equally careful to guard his heart. So seducing Lady Georgette should pose no problem. But the beautiful reformist is no easy conquest, and Nate's considerable charm fails to entice Georgette to his bed. To woo her, Nate will have to make her believe he cares about someone besides himself—and no one is more surprised than Nate when he realizes he actually does.

ONE NIGHT WITH A RAKE by Connie Mason and Mia Marlowe is another Regency Historical Romance in "The Regency Rakes". Book 2 in this series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "Waking Up With a Rake". As usual these two talented authors have created a fast paced story filled with love, passion, danger, suspense, betrayal, and the fate of an monarchy. Join Lady Georgette, and Nathaniel Colton on their journey to happiness, and love. Nathaniel is a notorious rake, one who has been engaged to stop the King from marrying a virginal bride, that would be Georgette. Together, they find wicked desire, and a bit of danger. A delightful, fast paced story that will have you turning pages as you set on the edge of your seat hoping against hope that the two can find love together against all odds. The plot is intriguing, the characters engaging and entertaining. A historical romance readers paradise, with all you could wish for in a story. Sexy, handsome, fierce, rake and a head-strong,beautiful heroine, and oh did I mention a maid who speaks her mind, albeit a little mouthy. The secondary characters are just as engaging as the main characters. A must read for any and all historical romance readers who enjoy a great story. A must read! Received for an honest review from the publisher. RATING: 4.5 HEAT RATING: MILD REVIEWED BY: AprilR, Review courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

This is the second book in the Regency Rakes series, and I really like how you do not have to read the first book in order to enjoy this one. It’s a great historical romance that includes a handsome rake, a headstrong heiress, a maid who speaks her mind, along with a good amount of suspense that makes you want to keep reading until the end. I loved the personalities of all the characters, and how they interacted with one another. Mia Marlowe and Connie Mason have done a wonderful job co-writing this story.

Anyways; this is the second book in The Royal Rakes series. If you don't know what this series is about here's a quick sum up on the series: The Royal Dukes are trying to find a young virginal woman to marry and produce an heir (Obviously they want to secure the crown). However, some people don't want to see that happen, so they are blackmailing these rakes to make sure this doesn't come to fruition. One has already been knocked out of the running when she married Lord Rhys Warrick. Now it's up to Lord Nathaniel Colton to take down the next bridal candidate who has caught the eye of the Duke of Cambridge. All right, I did have a bit a trouble getting into the story at first. I think a lot had to do with I didn't like Lady Georgette Yorkingham at first. I mean she wasn't a bad character, just a bit trying to please everyone else (darn people-pleasers). As I continued the story I started understand why she did the things she did and her character started to make sense. Plus, I started to appreciate her character more. It's amazing what a little information can do when it comes to perception. Lord Nathaniel really wasn't a bad guy. Actually he's really a decent guy and he didn't really become a rake until after he got back from the war. He seriously took a major emotional hit right before the war and during the war, which cause him to spiral down. Once he started to seduce Georgette, he begins to realize his heart or conscious didn't die all those years ago. I enjoyed how some of the staff were in a good portion of the story. Which I think enrich the story. I think these line from the book really summed up what Lady Georgette was really facing, "Life is sweeter when you do the deciding for yourself. When are you going to give that a try?" Once I got into the story I love how the story kept coming back to that point. Yes, a family would be excited to have a Royal Duke checking out their offspring, but at what cost? Overall, I enjoyed the story. As I said, once I got into the story I really enjoyed it. I truly believe these ladies have done a marvelous job putting the story together. Granted One Night with a Rake can be read as a stand alone, because it is a different Duke from Waking Up with a Rake. However, I think it's more enriching to read in order (just a suggestion). So, if your thing is for rakes you might want to read The Royal Rake series. If you have a thing for rakes with some emotional baggage, you might want to give Nathaniel a try in One Night with a Rake.

Reviewed by Rachel Book provided by NetGalley for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book You really can’t go wrong when the word “Rake” is in the title of a historical romance. I mean, really, it would be a crime.  I’d never read anything by Connie Mason or Mia Marlowe, so I was really excited to dive into this book! The book begins with wonderful scene setting. We meet Lord Nathanial. First let me just start off by saying, I have a hard time with second son titles because they sound so “normal,” but honestly, it ended up working in this book. Ahem, so we start with Lord Nathanial. Clearly he plays a mean card game and ends up winning a brothel. Lucky guy. At any rate, he soon finds himself at his late wife’s grave and in somewhat of a pickle, and this is something I really didn’t see coming. He has to seduce his dead wife’s sister. No lie. I actually shivered when I read that.  His dead wife’s sister? Well done Mia and Connie, well done! He goes about to seduce his sister-in-law mainly to save his families reputation as well as his own.  Though, the plan wasn’t to actually fall for the beautiful girl.  Lady Georgette is in line for a Royal Dukedom. Regency readers will freak out over this notion. Most regency books talk about normal dukes, but a royal duke? Yeah, that basically means you get to be a princess, so it’s a REALLY big deal! The problem? Lord Nathanial has been asked to be her protector as she is courted, not by the duke, but by his emissary. Weird?  Sure. But things just get weirder when Nate and Georgette can’t seem to keep their hands off of one another. I couldn’t help but root for them to run away together even though I know that society at the time would literally kill them. I loved the character of Nate. He was a good rake, meaning, he had a heart and wasn’t a total man-whore, but really truly cared about Georgette and in the end put her above all else. To me, that’s just a good hero. Georgette was independent and feisty yet still managed to stay un-annoying. I hate it when authors make the female leads so single-minded that all you want to do is bang them over the head with your kindle and knock some sense into them! I’m happy to announce that Georgette was the perfect combination of a strong woman and compromising/loving person. I think my favorite part was the way that the love story was told. Both Nate and Georgette had this undeniable pull that was more love than it was lust. In the end, it made the story all the more worthwhile. What I didn’t like? I feel like the end didn’t make sense. Wasn’t Nathanial being blackmailed? The guy who I thought was the bad guy was never mentioned again and then some random dude from the beginning shows up at the end and you find out he’s bad? It didn’t really work very smoothly, but I will admit that the love story overshadowed it so much that I didn’t really care anyway! All in all it was a lovely story that I would of course recommend to lovers of historical romance! A few sex scenes, minor cursing.
