Reviewed by Nadene R. Book provided by the publisher for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book Based on my experience with this author’s work I was expecting One Night’s Desire to be an exciting and enjoyable read, and it did not disappoint. This is the second book in the Wildfire Love series; it however can be read as a standalone. I have not had the opportunity of reading the first book in the series so I am unable to make any comparisons at this point. One thing I know for sure is that after reading this title I know that I definitely need to read the first book in the series. This title is what one would classify as historical western romance. The story is set in the Wyoming Territory in the nineteenth century. The description of the area provides an insight into what it was like living in that time. My favorite character is Kiera. She was one tough cookie. She was wanted for murder and horse stealing, as a result she was constantly on the run from the law. She was smart and was always one step ahead of law enforcement. Everett is a US Marshall who was intent on capturing Kiera so she could be tried for her alleged crimes. When the paths of the lawman and the alleged criminal crossed the attraction was instantaneous. Everett was unable to explain why he felt the way he did about Kiera and soon his feeling began to conflict with his mission. It was absolutely delightful to see Everett struggle with whom he thought Keira was and what he was actually seeing and feeling. Just like Keira, he also had demons from his past to deal with. I was happy to see that they were both able to overcome their past which helped to bring them closer. The supporting characters also helped to bring the story alive. Muh ‘Weda, a Shoshone, who is a friend of Keira was intent on helping her prove her innocence at the risk of his own life. Then there was Boyd who was working alongside Everett to assist in the capture of Keira. Everett did not trust him but he was forced to work with him. Boyd’s motive was eventually discovered and what a surprise that was. This is a great story that depicts that the path to true love is never smooth. It had me riveted and I could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. There were quite a few surprises and some laugh out loud moments. Rue Allyn had my attention from the very first page. I felt connected to the characters which made it easy for me to empathize with them. I am so glad that I got the chance to read this title and would definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy this type of story.
