One Out - Won Back
It's December of '93, and Jeremy and Melissa are excited to spend their holidays at their elusive Uncle Jack's farm for the very first time. However, on arrival, they soon suspect he does not want them there; he is rude, dismissive, and secretive. Not to mention scruffy and disreputable. They uncover their uncle's guilt for drugging a harness horse. The town folk treat him with disdain, and trouble ensues.

Isolated, the children attempt to put the pieces together to clear their uncle's name and solve this puzzle. Instead, they find themselves trapped in a tangled web of unsavoury characters, threats, and risks that endanger their existence.
This fast-paced adventure weaves mystery, excitement, and fear in the remote Australian bush against a background of harness racing, shady dealings, and ultimate revenge.

About the Author

Arnold van der Vegt has always had a love for books spurred on by mystery and adventure novels from an early age. It became an integral part of his youth and education. Now he wants to give back the same sense of excited anticipation he underwent when reading about mysterious landscapes, heroines and heroes, villains and rogues intertwined in a rollicking adventure.

Arnold immigrated from Holland to Australia, in 1952, with his parents and travelled with them up the Eastern seaboard of Australia. Later in life, as part of his vocation, both within the armed services and civilian life, he travelled widely across the world in spots generally untouched by tourists. He left Benghazi
three weeks prior to the attack on the American Embassy and broadened his horizons with his own adventures across Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia.

After starting and managing a successful business in Australia for twenty years, he has now stepped back, giving him the time to embark on a writing venture. This is the first of a children’s novel aimed at engendering the love of adventure and mystery for young minds. The sequel is on its way. He has also
completed an adult fiction novel that will be published later in 2023 and is part way through writing another adult fiction novel.

Although “one out” from the crowd, it is imperative to be resolute and hold onto one’s beliefs and self-esteem no matter the cost.
