About the Author

Debra A. Garland is a retired educator, teacher and principal. She enjoyed working with students on the elementary and secondary level, in various capacities. Writing has always been a favorite past time and she enjoyed teaching students to be passionate about writing. Her undergraduate degree is in Music Education from the University of Texas in the Permian Basin, and she holds a Master of Science in Administration from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. She enjoys watching her daughter perform (singing, acting, dancing, and stand-up), currently a senior in college. Mrs. Garland and her family reside in Illinois.

One Summer Day is a multi-cultural story about a boy and his family who live in a country with political strife. The family needs to prepare to flee their homeland when the outbreak of war occurs. The reader learns that "home" is anywhere that the family can be together and live in peace.
