Overview

One Tequila (Althea Rose Series #1) by Tricia O'Malley

Tequila Key is just like any other small town and I'm just like any other small town psychic. Scratch that. Tequila Key is a world onto itself and some people might think that I am one crayon short of the box.

And, if we're being totally honest, Tequila Key is just like any other small town – if that town boasts a voodoo priestess and a few white witches for flavor. Turquoise blue water and the best margaritas this side of Mexico make it hard to leave.

I'm Althea Rose, co-owner of Luna Rose Potions & Tarot Shop, and I've just stumbled into a love triangle while trying to save my best friend from being accused of murder.

See? Just like any other small town.

Snarky magical women, a small quirky ocean front town, a pinch of romance and a murder. Mix well and enjoy.

More of a Romance Novel than a Mystery One aspect of cozies that bothers me - at least in ones that are not well-written - is the overuse of "snorting" (as in, laughing), "moaning" (as when the character eats something that tastes good), and over-attention to the male character/love interest who has "rippling muscles" and all the other cliches. This book is full of those kinds of cliches.. Additionally, the references to paganism are all wrong, more of the "Charmed" variety than anything that would actually reflect a rudimentary understanding of pagan practices (along with the designation of "white witch", something that is not used by any serious pagan, ever). The book spends far too much time on the romantic musings of a rather insipid protagonist. The police chief is a walking stereotype, and the author makes the mistake of having him come off as hostile right off the bat, which is the wrong way to introduce a character (and not the way real people talk). Just an awful read and I am deleting it off my Nook after I finish this review. Glad I didn't pay for it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read and the characters came to life. The plot was good and believable. I just would have enjoyed more of the paranormal in it. I read all the mystic cove series and now I'm enjoying this series too. I only wish there would be better editing that's why I gave it only 4 stars.

Aside from the predictable love triangle, the story flowed well and was really enjoyable. The characters were believable and likable. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Well written, characters are fun and the story is complex enough to hold your interest while being a light and funny. Great beach books. Glad I found a new author and can’t wait for the next one.

Absolutely love Althea and all of the characters in the first of this series. Great writing style and development. I enjoyed Henry's energy throughout as well. Add a little love triangle and a murder; blend it up and sit back to see what happens next. Can't wait for the next novel.

Humorous murder mystery novel with two friends who share a shop on an island. One character is psychic and does tarot card readings and can sometimes read minds or feeling, and one who sells new agey crystals and does some magic spells. Several Love interests, Boston terrier, gay friend, and more than a little Tequila are present. Also a plot that keeps things moving swiftly. No hot sex at all.

The characters are likable, the mystery entertaining, and the dog is super cute and true to life. While there aren't a lot of extreme surprises, that actually plays well with the main character being psychic. I really enjoyed it.
