I'm not a big reader, but I could hardly put this book down! It was thrilling, deep, and carried a message way beyond the adventure itself.

This book will take you to a place you have never been before...It makes you feel like you are part of something much bigger & magnificent on this planet. We are not here to have material things and achieve status in this world...we are here for so much more. Billy Brown takes us on HIS life's pathways with many bumps, twists and turns. It is inspiring, and sometimes breathtaking. I love biographies because you know it is REAL life and Billy brings you into his experince in all it's glory! I have had the pleasure of meeting him and his entire family and this book resonates 'fully living in the moment'. I have recommended 'One Wave at a Time' to all my family and friends and have bought copies for Christmas gifts to share this LIFE Changing book...The message is LOVE!

One Wave at a Time tells of a miraculous true life adventure only ninety-nine percent of us could ever dream of, let alone live and survive. Billy Bryan Brown has done just that. Brown articulates vivid living imagery in a colloquial style as though you're sitting with him beside a fire, seeing the colors of the flames and smelling the aromas of the burning wood. Brown starts the journey as he describes the loss of his family in a tragic accident, followed by the complete destruction of the privileged life he had always known. Suddenly, at sixteen years of age, Billy Bryan Brown was cast into a world of unknown. Wandering the countryside from Canada to Mexico, he worked odd jobs, unable to find that "something" to fill the churning emptiness he describes. Then, he saw Ami. It was love at first sight. This modern day pioneer, lead by a stirring deep in his soul and supported by his equally adventurous wife Ami, took off one day for the wilds of the Alaskan bush country with little more than their blind enthusiasm and love for one another. Page after page, Brown relentlessly pours out one harrowing story after another about their seemingly fool-hearted quest. All the while, one slowly gathers an appreciation for their inner strength and developing awareness of the wild land and scary sea they call home. One Wave at a Time is a story of trust, of surviving on the most basic of needs: meat, warmth and water. As mankind has done since his arrival on this planet, the Brown's learned how to adapt to their ever changing environment. They become hunter-gatherers in order to overcome one obstacle at a time, discover valuable life lessons, and ascertain that life's simplest treasures are the ones that truly make life worth living. Like the Beverly Hillbillies on steroids, the Browns become the consummate Alaskans as they live the Alaskan creed: take only what you need, use all that you have, when you no longer need it, give it to someone who does. Brown weaves his tale just as he had lived it with straight-forward, simple, honest talk. There is no need to embellish these heroic tales when it comes to describing the hair-raising horrific sounds coming from the monsters in the night, or standing face to face with a twelve-foot tall grizzly bear ready to demolish them, or a raging bull moose ready to push the entire family over a cliff. From fishing boats on the roughest Pacific seas to the remotest spot of land in North America, day after day the Browns tackle seemingly insurmountable odds. Whether it was finding wood, food, water, medical care, or their house burning down, where there was a will, there was a way, One Wave at a Time.

Inspiring story of a man who lost everything, found a soul mate, and chased a dream through the Alaskan wilderness. Facing numerous adversities while raising an ever-growing family, Mr. Brown finally found what he sought and shares his story in a folksy, comfortable manner. A good read for those interested in pioneering in Alaska and family values.

I am writing this because my life has been touched in a way that has not happened in quite a long time. I am the minister of Unity Church for Positive Living in Nashville, Tennessee. I thought that I had a life full of wonder, mystery and surprise ¿ until I met Billy Bryan Brown and his family. As his book states, so much was happening in his family¿s lives that they had to learn to take it all One Wave At A Time. I urge every human being on this planet to read this amazing story about a man who had everything that we might deem as important in life and in the blink of an eye it was all gone. Only then did his real life journey begin. Billy Bryan Brown and his wife and children learned to live, love and grow together into a family that most of us can only dream of -- a family that loves and respects each other. This is a family that truly stays together by choice and is willing to go through the hard times and come out stronger because of it. If you get the chance ¿ meet this amazing family. Billy¿s presentation is entertaining, the stories are amazing, the children are magical, and Billy¿s wife Ami is indeed an angel. I can assure you that you will hear things that you may have only read about in books, but the Brown family will start to bring them to life. As I listened to stories I found myself experiencing and feeling many of the things I am sure that they felt and experienced. Allow your heart to smile and your joy to blossom in the breath-taking stories of the Alaskan Wilderness. Don¿t miss One Wave At A Time by Billy Bryan Brown.

I found the book nearly impossible to put down. At times I held my breath in anticipation, at other times I cried with and for them. A book of earned knowledge, love and unbreakable faith in 'Da' and each other.

One Wave At A Time is an attention holding survival novel. it takes this extraordinary family through hard times which most can only read about. The survival instinct of this family is only superseded by the story within the story of tremendous family values and internal trust. An autiobiography of this family's endurance in the Alaskan bush and on the high seas of the Pacific with very limited resources, captures a miracle in raising 7 children , living off the land for food, water, and shelter. This inspirational saga is certain to become an award-winning movie. What a refreshing ending.

I read 'One Wave at a Time' in 2 sittings over a 24 hour period. It is an extraordinary story written in a unique style, as if the writers at Reader's Digest gathered to pen an adventure story. It was an enjoyable and fast read. Anyone that preaches and promotes family values should read this book before they speak again. Thank you, Billy, for sharing your family's very powerful story of love, loyalty and trust.

I absolutely loved this book! An incredible adventure! I feel like I have now been to Alaska and the hair on the back of my neck is still standing since reading the chapter when Billy was face to face with the bear! It is so nice to know that there are still families out there that live their their dreams, that love each other unconditionally, and stand by each other no matter what. A true inspiration for all! This book...no..this family, made me laugh out loud and cry like a baby through-out the book.

A man who said he was not a writer sure wrote a great book. He shares his pain and joy in very easy reading. He is a storyteller like I haven't heard sinse my great-great-grandmother told me stories of her family on the trail of tears. Mr. Brown and his family have the spirit of adventure from days long ago, and know the true meaning of life. His children have been taught that happiness does not come from the mall. I will pass this book on to my children and grandchildren. Mr. Brown has my deepest respest as a person and as a parent.

This autobiography is one of those 'can't put it down' reads, yet each chapter is strong enough to stand alone. 13 chapters of situations in the life of a man, woman and their 7 children living in the deepest wilderness of the bush of Alaska and aboard tiny fishing boats in the unforgiving alaskan waters. To read of the near maniacal-like quest of a scared and desperate young boy, born into wealth, suddenly orphaned and reduced to a state of homelessness at 17 as he tries to fill the void inside is in itself captivating. But the real story begins when he, hith a young wife and two toddlers end up stranded for 18 months on a desolate island off the shores of Alaska, where he begins to find his way as a man is absolutely one of the most incredible stories I have ever heard or read...and that is only Chapter One. How he, his wife and now 7 children, after 20 plus years of living in the 'bush' staving off bears, wolves and moose, while surviving sub-zero winters to emerge victorious and so much stronger as individuals is beyond my wildest imagination. What a story...what an inspiration...and what an ending!!! A MUST read for all ages!
