Whitney Houston delivered One Wish: The Holiday Album, her first Christmas record, a year after her 2002 comeback, Just Whitney. If it seemed like that record played it safe, that's nothing compared to One Wish, which is the straightest adult contemporary record Houston had released in years. Of course, holiday records are the last place anybody would want to take a risk, since they're designed to be nice, pleasant mood music and this suits the bill nicely. The clean, pristine production, heavy on synths, sounds as if it was cut in the late '80s, yet it's also strangely spare, often being no more than a synth and a drum machine. Still, it's a sound that's well suited for Whitney and her thoroughly predictable set of material (the title track is the only new song, then the final two songs are recycled from the soundtrack of The Preacher's Wife). Ultimately, One Wish is the kind of album that may only appeal to a fan of Whitney who has already yearned for her holiday album, but for those fans, it will be satisfactory.

Since her debut in spring 1985 Whitney was the Queen diva she had the most incredible voice ever and even in the late 1990´s she was on top of her stunning career. Since one year ago Whitney released her first album in four years Just Whitney and that album is aweful the songs are just boring and Whitney´s voice is raspy and she can´t hold the high notes like before.Just a year later in december 2003 this holiday album was released and i have to say her voice is a little bit stronger than year ago and the songs are just mediocre. Whitney rushed out to make this album after the flop with Just Whitney and here she tries to sing Christmas songs and few af the songs are listenable, the worst thing is that there is only 12 songs and 2 taken from the Movie Soundtrack The Preacher´s wife where she played the lead role and she sounded terrific then in 1996, the best song on One Wish is O Holy Night short version but vocally good. I rather recommend Mariah Carey´s Merry Christmas and Celine´s These Are Special times. Whitney´s career is over soon if she doesn´t pull her self together and work with David Foster again.
One Wish is a nice holiday album but not as good as Mariah Carey´s Merry Christmas or Celine´s These Are Special Times but it´s alright and Whitney´s voice is stronger than 1 year ago when she delivered Just Whitney her most aweful album to date. my onpinion is that she shouln´t have collaborated with Merwyn Warren on this album or Gordon Chambers or Troy Taylor they didn´t make great songs and they doesn´t suite Whitney´s talent. What happened with David Foster and even Babyface the producers who made her biggest hits to date she should had worket with them instead or even the duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis best known for their work with Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson among others. Maybe Whitney will work with those heavyweights next time she makes an album. My fave songs here is One Wish and O Holy Night the other songs are just ok. Whitney´s voice isn´t as powerful as few years ago but she is coming back and she can bring those high notes like Celine and Barbra and she does it well on this album.
I love Christmas music, and I love the old Whitney Houston. The current Whitney did absolutely no justice to the Christmas songs. She suck'd.
Whitney is a vital assets to the music industry, and I want to thank her for all her wonderful music. My "One Wish" was that Whitney Houston would release a Christmas album, and guess what my one wish was granted with her "One Wish," a wonderful album. I enjoyed every single song on this album. Thank you whitney for bringing me christmas in November. It is so good to hear you hit those high notes as you always do. There is one song that meant a little more to me than the others and that was, Little Dtummer Boy, and that was because whitney's daughter was singer with her, and what a beutiful voice she has. It is a must that everyone go out and buy this album, it will really fill you with the Joys of Christmas, this year and for years to come.
An exellent holiday CD with a voice that is incomparable! I hope you enjoy this CD as much as I am. Feliz Navidad!
Ever since I first heard Whitney, she was my favorite singer. If this album was the first Whitney I heard, I would not have gotten every album of hers that I could.
Whitney is definely back after her failure album last year her voice is awesome WOW i´m so glad to hear that Whitney has her incredible pipes she sounds so great. My favorit songs on Whitney´s first holiday album are. One Wish the album version,Cantique De Nóel/O Holy Night geez her voice is so powerful here no one can beat this. I´ll Be Home For Christmas, Deck The Halls/Silent Night, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and The 2 songs from The Preacher´s wife. All In All a great album for those who love a Great voice. Also Recommended These Are Special Times with Celine Dion, Merry Christmas with Mariah Carey and Christmas Memories with Barbra Streisand.
Only "One Voice" could deliver a Christmas album like this...ONE WISH...is the best Christmas album ever and maybe the best album of the year PERIOD!!!!
Whitney hits some strong notes on this album! O Holy Night is a standout, with a very beautiful neo-operatic style and classic arrangement Little Drummer Boy is great fun and charming she gets funky on Deck the Halls and her older classics from Preacher's Wife sound great and inspirational! A must have for any serious collector of x-mas music!
What a wonderful masterpiece of a DIVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing, breathtaking performance of a truly talanted artist!!!!!!!!!!Hope more to come!! Fan forever.
I've always loved her music, heard it in the store the day after Thanksgiving knew immediately the voice, said give me that CD, I've been playing every since. She's given a new meaning of Deck(ing)the Halls with a sound mixing a Silent Night, what a twist with tasteful talent. One Wish is Great,Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, is another of my favorites... ENJOY!
Houston's long awaited and anticipated holiday album is definantly a must for the avid Whitney fan. Her soulful rendition of traditional Christmas classics have a wintery holiday feel and bring one back to her greatness as an emerging R&B artist in the 80's and early 90's. Her embellishments are indicative of her style but sometimes are out of control.
A gifted voice that continues to be a polished music DIVA. All the songs are done with professional elegance, and it reminds me once again why I remained a faithful purchaser of your music. One Wish warms my heart will be a classic for years to come.
Whitney shines on The First Noel; O Come, O Come, Emmanuel; the title track One Wish For Christmas; and w/ daughter Bobbi Kristina on a hip version of Little Drummer Boy, plus more holiday favorites including a jazzy version of The Christmas Song. A great holiday present for all!
If you didnt know of Whitneys talents before, this album might not be bad, but it's not any Whitney we knew of years past. There's a lot of inconsistent quality to her voice, the music itself and the production. Her voice sounds scratchy at times, (almost damaged) and unable to really hold any type of note-sounds more like a scat type of album. I always really loved her, but..... It seems like her voice is mirroring her past years...not good. Unless you are a true die hard fan and I mean TRUE skip this...
I think that Ms. Houston has a great voice but I feel that she could have done a more traditional sound. I don't think that I would add this to my hoilday music list. This could also contribute to the fact that I only heard a very small sample on my computer and did not get the full effect.
The queen diva Whitney Houston is back this album is awesome and Whitney sounds terrific her big voice shines and she hasn´t sound like this since 2000. All the songs are very nice and 1 song was taken from her 1996 album The Preacher´s wife,Whitney´s latest album Just Whitney wasn´t so good and just one song on that album is good and it´s the ballad Try it on my own. I Recommend this album to all fans of Whitney,Celine and Mariah Carey it´s wonderful and Whitney´s voice is very powerful like oldtimes.
I HAD LISTENED TO PREVIEW OF ALBUM ON ARISTA WEB SITE. IT'S SO MARVELOUS!!!!!!!!!! THOSE SONGS ARE GREAT, THAT VOICE IS HUGE!!!! WHITNEY PUT ALL HER HEART IN IT AND BOBBI SOUNDS CUTE!!!! THIS IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS ALBUM EVER!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD BUY IT!!!!! GREAT WORK FROM THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!
No one can do it like Whitney. Whitney sounds wonderful! She really brings those Christmas songs to life. Bobbi Krissi sounds great too! She could be the next great singer of our generation of singers. Great job Whitney, keep it up!
She has the voice of an angel. She is a living legend! There will only be one Whitney Houston, like Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, and Billie Hoilday! Her voice is very strong and distinct and when she sings, you know that this is the one and only beautiful Whitney!!
Whitney Hosutons new album is not as good as the rest. She Dosent have the sam voice. The best song is the one with her daughter. She needs help with vocal cords. She needs some lessons.
