If you were a young witch, who had not yet flown,And the dark night sky held a round yellow moon and the moon shone her light on the silent broomand the dark cat beside you crooned, Soar, would you too begin to cry, because of your longing to fly? Only a witch can fly.

Gorgeous illustrations, poem about a little witch who has not yet flown, but she keeps on trying, and finally gets it.

Lovely linoleum block print illustrations, reminiscent of a Halloween tale from my youth that I can't place. The story is uninspired and oddly edited.

Only A Witch Can Fly tells the story of a young witch yearning to fly. She tries and tries again until she finally gets it. The language is choppy and awkward. The story is supposed to rhyme, but doesn¿t quite work. When the young witch falls from her broom the second time, the text says, ¿How awful it is not to fly in the sky¿. The whole book is full of these rough phrases. The illustrations, on the other hand, are beautiful. The main color scheme is brown, black, orange, white, and green. They create the mood of the fall/Halloween night. The text only talks about the young witch trying to fly, but the illustrations show her little brother helping her the whole time, and celebrating with her when she finally flies. The pictures are why I gave this book two out of five stars. Otherwise I would have given this book one star. If you are looking for a good Halloween book to read to your children, you may want to look elsewhere.
