Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated.
Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years?
Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits. One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…
Each book in the Lick series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Sex not only sold — it sold like a motherfucker.
Rion Ward leaned against the glass top of the bar and sipped from the one glass of liquor he permitted himself every night before the festivities kicked into high gear. The smooth, smoke-and-caramel flavor of the twenty-three-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon slid over his tongue like a benediction. Drinking the Kentucky whiskey might be seen as treason in his part of the country, the home of Sam Adams, but fuck it. The shit was good.
He surveyed the shadowed, cavernous room. Satisfaction beat within him, as warm and bright as the bourbon. Exposed brick walls lent character to the converted warehouse while two long, wide glass and chrome bars dominated either side of the building. Strategically placed halogen lights illuminated the bars, the glass-enclosed balconies, the dance floor already growing more packed with people, and the stage. High tables dotted the space around the dance floors, and long, leather couches resided in shadowed corners and alcoves.
In the 1800s, this brick building in Boston's Leather District might have once been used for leather manufacturing, but today it housed Lick, the city's hottest and most exclusive aphrodisiac club. Since its opening a year ago, Lick had quickly become the hottest place to party thanks to the patronage of sports figures, actors and actresses, musicians, and other celebrities. The bottom level of the building provided music spun by the country's most popular and in-demand DJs; premium, top-shelf alcohol; dancing; VIP lounges; and the best time to be had in Boston.
But on the upper levels in the loft-style apartments ... Lick delivered the ultimate — and kinkiest — fantasies. Bondage. Spanking. Domination and submission. Voyeurism. Role play. The club provided a private, safe, and luxurious place for well-vetted members to indulge in the most carnal and dirty side of their needs and imaginations. Whatever sexual aphrodisiac stimulated or excited a person's desires, Lick catered to them — for an exorbitant annual fee.
Not bad for three ex-members of the Irish mob.
And a far cry from the world of extortion, weapons trafficking, and murder they used to live in. Now they dealt in kink ... not blood.
So Lick was more than a business. It was his, Sasha's, and Killian's redemption.
And Rion guarded it jealously.
Sasha Merchant, one of his best friends and one-third owner of Lick, leaned against the bar railing next to Rion. Before Sasha could turn to the bartender, a tumbler of vodka appeared beside his elbow. Nodding his thanks to the pretty brunette and ignoring the I'm-down-to-fuck invitation in her smile, Sasha picked up the drink and fixed his eerily bright blue and gray gaze on him. He reminded Rion of the wolf Sasha's homeland was known for. The pale blond hair cut close to his head; slanted, exotic eyes; harsh facial structure; and big, wide-shouldered frame declared his Russian heritage.
"Hey, Sasha. Everything okay?"
He grunted, sipping from his glass. "Not exactly. Caught a guy dealing out of the bathroom last night. Said he's an O'Bannon."
Rion, Sasha, and Killian had decided to go straight two years ago, but getting out of the O'Bannon gang — one of Boston's Irish mobs — had been hell. Even being the son of Darry Ward, the infamous mob hitman and enforcer, hadn't held any sway with the boss, Jamie Hughes. Blood had been spilled, and ... He clenched his jaw. The bottom line was they got out ... even if the how of it haunted him in the middle of the night.
And damn if the O'Bannons were going to worm their way into the dream he, Sasha, and Killian had sacrificed so much for. Or drag them back into that life.
"Let him stay. For now," Rion said, voice grim. "And with the reminder that he keeps his ass clean. I don't care if he's an O'Bannon. While he's here in our house, he follows our rules. And that includes no dealing." So far, they hadn't experienced any trouble with their former gang. So far. He doubted the O'Bannons were making a push on them, but they would also be fools to not be prepared and ready to defend what was theirs.
Sasha's lips thinned into a flat line, and after several seconds, he nodded.
"Anything else?" Rion downed the last of the bourbon and set the glass on the bar behind him. He glanced down at his watch. Eleven o'clock on a Friday night. Still fairly early down here, with people pouring through the club's doors and crowding around the bars and on the dance floors.
"Yeah, one more thing." Sasha frowned down into his drink, his fingers clenching and unclenching around the thick glass. When he glanced up, wariness darkened his wolf eyes, and unease tripped down Rion's spine. If Sasha was nervous, then they all needed to buy fleece and fur-lined drawers because hell was experiencing a cold snap.
"What?" Rion pressed.
Another beat of hesitation. "Harper Shaw is here."
Fuck. He shouldn't have asked.
* * *
Mission for tonight.
Wait. Did people even say that anymore? What were they calling it now? Hook up? Getting ass?
God. Harper Shaw sighed, sipping on her virgin rum-and-Coke ... which, okay, was just a Coke. I'm astronomically bad at this.
What had she expected? That once she stepped into the popular club, all her inhibitions and nerves would fly off like Britney Spears' panties? She snorted. If only.
Not that the stark yet elegant and sexy decor didn't inspire a person to let her freak flag fly. Even if just for a little wave. The large, framed, black-and-white photographs dotting the exposed brick walls had her blinking, then flushing, and in desperate need of a fan: A bed with tangled sheets and pillows with indentations as if lovers had just climbed out. Couples in silhouette, their bodies straining toward one another. The moon shining over the dark, mysterious water of Boston Harbor. Two hands — one masculine, the other slim and feminine — entwined, tightened around the other.
Rion's work. There were no name plates to reveal the identity of the photographer, but she didn't need them. In her soul, she recognized his sensitivity and sensuality in the beauty that radiated from them.
She contemplated the rest of the room. The black and chrome tables and chairs; the wide, red and dark blue couches along the walls and tucked into corners. The glass balconies with crimson drapes and gorgeous staff in tight leather pants and blue silk halter tops or white shirts ... Yes, sexy.
But so damn intimidating.
She curled her fingers into a tight fist as if she would use it to fight the urge to scurry back to the safe bolt hole she called a house. Two years, damn it. It'd been two years since Terrance's death. Three since Carlie's, the precious baby she'd lost, miscarrying at seven-and-a-half months. She briefly closed her eyes, and the bite of fingernails digging into her palm helped beat back the throb of pain in her chest. The thought of Terrance and Carlie no longer buckled her knees like it used to, time and grieving having dulled the serrated edges some. Still ... She sipped through her straw, the cold, crisp soda distracting her from ambling down that pocked and well-travelled road.
The season for mourning had passed. The support group her mother had insisted Harper attend would've claimed she'd entered the seventh phase of the grieving process. Acceptance. And hope. Not for a man or husband. She'd been there, done that, had the shattered dreams and broken promises littering her heart to prove it. Screw the T-shirt.
No, tonight she'd come to Lick — God, she blushed just thinking the name — to feel alive again. To break out of the cryogenic state she'd hibernated in for the past three years.
She'd come for sex.
Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex that good little Catholic girls from a respectable family shouldn't know about. The kind of sex that had Terrance staring at her as if an alien had snatched his wife's body the first — and only — time she'd dared to whisper her fantasy to him.
Yes, that kind.
And who better to provide it than the man who'd granted her a glimpse of what true need and passion were like before slamming that door shut ... and shutting her out. She just had to convince him that a) it was a good idea, and b) she didn't want him to put a ring on it; she just wanted sex.
A shiver quaked through her, the tiny hairs on the nape of her neck rising as if an intent sniper had her in his sights. She inhaled a deep breath, held it, then released it slowly, deliberately ... Nada. Didn't do a damn thing for the frantic twisting and knotting in her belly.
Picking up her glass in a trembling hand, she lifted it to her mouth, and shifting on the surprisingly comfortable chrome and leather chair, she covertly scanned the packed room. People mobbed the dance floor, but the sense of being watched — hunted — didn't come from that direction. The itch intensified, as did the fear, anxiety, and ... excitement.
The balconies. Nope. The scattering of tables and couches on the far side of the room. Not there, either. The bar ...
No. Not God. Rion Ward.
Even so, floods of people parted, making way for him, tinges of awe, lust, and envy suffusing their faces. As he stalked closer to her with a sensual glide that triggered her fight-or-flight instinct, wonder and arousal wound through her. Like it always had when she'd been near him in the past. The man was living, breathing, and walking danger ... and sex.
She rose, steadying herself with a hand on the table. The sheath dress suddenly seemed too tight, squeezing her so she couldn't even draw in a lungful of air.
Jesus, he was ... beautiful.
Nothing of the teen who had first appeared in her life by coming in between her and a couple of bullies existed in the man.
No, that wasn't exactly true.
He still possessed the same slumberous, hooded gaze, the same slashes of dark brows. The black hair appeared as thick, except now those silken waves grazed his razor-sharp cheekbones and the hard line of his jaw instead of falling around his shoulders. The same sensual, full mouth with its hint of cruelty. God, thoughts of that mouth had resulted in more confessions to her priest and Acts of Contrition than she could count. And back then, a dark shadow of a beard hadn't dusted his jaw, chin and surrounded those lips ...
In the years that had passed since she'd last seen him, he had become ... more. The promise of power and control that had simmered under his skin then, radiated from him now. He wore it with confidence, as easily as he did the immaculately tailored black suit and shirt that draped over his wide shoulders and chest, slender waist, and strong legs. And thighs. Why couldn't she tear her gaze away from the muscles that pressed against the slim cut of his pants with each stride?
She couldn't think. Couldn't grasp and hold onto a single thought as he closed in on her, not halting until scant inches separated them, and she inhaled the wood-and-sex scent of his cologne. A gentleman would've ceded a respectable distance, not invaded her personal space.
But Rion Ward — ex-mob, her former best friend, the first man to break her heart, and star of every secret, illicit fantasy she'd ever dreamed — had never been a gentleman.
For an instant, the hurt and disillusionment from years ago trickled past the fascination and attraction, sparking memories. Painful memories. Of Rion coming to her with a bruised face and knuckles, and Harper, terrified for his life, throwing down an ultimatum — her or the gang. Of her telling Rion that she wanted him, needed him, and flinging her heart at his feet, kissing him. And for one blinding moment, of him kissing her back, caressing her breasts and nipples, showing her pleasure for the first time.
Of Rion refusing to leave the mob life behind, and then his terribly gentle rejection, his belief that he wasn't capable of relationships, especially not with her.
Then, finally, of the night she'd informed him about Terrance's marriage proposal ... and Rion wishing her happiness and walking away.
"What are you doing here?" The deep, midnight voice sliced through the memories, and she willingly locked the vault on them. His velvet tone slid over her exposed skin like a velvet caress, resonating in her chest, curling in her belly — and lower. She squeezed her thighs together, praying those piercing gray eyes with their thick fringe of almost ridiculously long lashes didn't notice how she shifted on the unfamiliar stilettos that were beginning to pinch her toes. "I asked you a question," he said, the demand silky but no less menacing.
Did it make her depraved or the shameless slut Terrance had called her that the danger embedded in that voice had her sex clenching?
"I-I came here to speak with y-you," she stammered. God, she sounded like an idiot. Forcing her hand to remain by her side and not cover her face in mortification, she tried it again. "I hoped we could talk."
A black eyebrow arched high. "Talk," he enunciated, a corner of his sensual mouth curling into a faintly sardonic sneer. "What could you and I possibly have to talk about?"
"I —" She peered over his shoulder, for the first time noticing the blond giant standing behind Rion. A flicker of memory ghosted across her mind, and an image of a tall, lean boy with exotic eyes and an accent superimposed itself over the man. Sasha. Sasha Merchant. A close friend of Rion's. And from the way he loomed behind Rion's shoulder as if protecting his back, he still was. Jerking her regard away from that unwavering and a bit unsettling stare, she returned her attention to Rion. "Would you mind if we ... Can we speak in private?"
Without his friend and, oh, hundreds of people, as witnesses. Her reason for searching him out was embarrassing enough. Having an audience for the conversation? Humiliating.
She reeled back on her death-defying heels, teetering before grabbing the table tighter. "No?" she repeated. Seconds of silence passed between them. Irritation warred with mortification, and she tilted her chin in spite of the heat rushing up her throat and into her face. "That's it? Just no?"
She sighed, exasperated. "Rion ..."
"Go home," he interrupted, the order unyielding, hard. Dismissive.
"Rion, please," she murmured, cringing at the plea that crept into her voice.
"Sasha, would you mind escorting her safely to her car?" He turned, again disregarding her without hearing her out.
Anger shoved the hurt aside, surging hot and hard inside her. She'd been dismissed, shelved, or patronized too often in her life. She'd also been mute, opting to remain silent, not rock the boat. Not voice her needs, her wants ... her desires. Years ago, he'd been the first person to teach that confessing what — or who — you needed resulted in rejection, humiliation. Terrance had solidified that lesson. Well, that time had passed.
She was tired of living — no, existing — in a cocoon that was supposed to be safe but was really suffocating.
And he didn't get to push her back into that cocoon.
Aiming a dark scowl at Rion, Sasha stepped forward, his hand extended toward her. "Sorry, sweetheart —"
"Wait a minute," she snarled, skirting past Sasha and latching onto Rion's arm, ignoring the sexy flex of muscle beneath her fingers and palm. Rion froze, probably in surprise rather than from her hold. "We were friends for a long time. Too long for you to just toss me aside like a stranger. Okay it's been five years since we've seen one another. You can at least give me five seconds."
Slowly, Rion pivoted, dislodging her hand. Staring up into his lean face with its stark lines and stormy eyes, she shivered. Fear had picked a fine time to remind her of the absolute stupidity of stirring a predator.
Cradling her hand to her chest, she rubbed a thumb over her tingling palm. The palm that had gripped the steel of his arm.
"I'm sorry," she murmured.
"Five seconds." He slid his hands in his pants pockets.
"Thank you." She sighed, relieved. "If we could just —"

Hot and steamy with a little bit of a story line. Lots of sex and little.of anything else.
Only for a Night by Naima Simone is sexy, passionate and freeing. Two characters reunite in a big way! Harper has always wanted Rion, but he turned her down. Harper jumped head first into a marriage that made her feel shameful, at times. Now that Harper is a widow, she’s taking what she wants and what she wants is Rion. Rion left the Irish Mob and now co-owns LICK, one of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac clubs. When he sees Harper after all these years, he sends her away until she mentions that she only wants sex from him. He’s craved Harper for a while now and even though he should send her way, he won’t until he gives her exactly what she needs. One night of fantasy between Rion and Harper leads too much, much more!!! This book is so freaking hot! Everything about this book is hot…the cover, the characters, and the words make this one heck of a read! Going in my favorite pile to re-read at a later date!
Loved this story. Don't miss out, read.
I really loved this novella. So sweet and hot and sexy wrapped up in one beautiful package. Rion and Harper tugged at my heart strings, and I really felt for them. The emotions and history that bound them together leapt off the pages and I was eager to see how they resolved coming together. Overall this was a very sexy and emotional read and I am dying, just dying to read Killian and Sascha's book!
This is a steamy fast paced read. Rion and Harper were friends as kids but knowing what life is would be like he pushed Harper away. Now that Harper is a widow and has been for two years she decided she wants to have hot and dirty sex and who better than her old friend Rion but he only agrees for one night, but will that be enough? I liked the characters as well as the story and of course the sex was off the charts hot. My only complaint is I would have liked a little more story. Steamy Read!
Oh good golly- this book is HOT! I am a first time reader of Naima Simone and I am a forever fan. This story is super sexy but also has such a depth of characters that you don't always find in short stories, heck sometimes you don't even see this kind of character development in a full length read. I loved this story of second chances, finding the strength to be who you are, and HEA. Advanced Reader Copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh My! This story was seriously sexy and sinfully steamy, with tantalizing hotness and passion. This was one of the hottest stories that I have ever read. I melted in a puddle of lust and desire, Naima Simone sure can write a steamy sexy book that makes you want to jump head first into her fictional world. This is the first story that I have read written by Naima Simone but it definitely won't be my last. This is story about second chance love was intimately erotic, and deliciously decadent. Don't waste another moment reading. Get it now. Highly recommended! Received a complimentary copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I have been a fan of Naima Simone for years and have read everything she's ever written. That being said, this book took me on such an unexpected ride that it left me fascinated and happily surprised! Has her writing gotten even better?? Mind blown! Rion Ward is ex-Irish mob and now an owner of a sex club. Harper Shaw is a good girl from his past, the girl who got away. She's a widow now and just wants to experience Rion once in her life before moving on with it. You would think you can figure out what happens next, since it's evident these two never got over each other, but no. You can't. Naima takes you on a ride through this one night that I can only compare to a roller coaster - you are taken slowly into the darkness of the club, you can't help but be full of anticipation as you hit the curves and twists. Then the story hits some intensity and it feels like you're getting higher and higher on the ride and then it's a free fall with fast crazy twists! My heart was beating hard the whole time! Fantastic story....and it's part of a series!!! Yay for all of us!!!
First in a new series (Lick) and from a new line from Entangled coming out 5/30 (Scorched) Only for a Night is a quick, dirty read *and* a former-friends-to-lovers/second-chance-romance story (which, to make under 100 pages to an HEA believable, it really has to be). There's a lot of sex. And dirty talk. I liked Harper and Rion, though his "she could do so much better than me so I must give her up for her own good" routine did get a little old after a while--thankfully, more than one character called him on it and he eventually got over himself. Their issues were resolved fairly quickly in the end, though I attribute most of that to the shorter format of the story...it wasn't outside the realm of believability, it was just pretty fast. I'm assuming the other two club owners--Rion's best friends Sasha and Killian--will have other books in the series, and I'm definitely sufficiently interested in their stories to give them a try. If you're looking for short and hot with sympathetic characters and just a touch of a story, give this one a try. Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+ I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a quick, super hot, emotional story with a sweet ending. I loved seeing growth in both Harper and Rion's characters. They were well deserving of a second chance at a happy ending. Ms. Simone does an excellent job of creating an enjoyable novella with plenty of backstory in less than a hundred pages. I can't wait to read Sasha and Killian's stories. ARC received from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
One Night Love Affair Lawd, this story will have you alternating between turning the fan on to get rid of the overwhelming heat generated by the story and then reaching for tissues due to the heartbreak that the MC experienced/went thru. This is a short yet so emotionally packed read filled with sexual tension and eroticism throughout this novella/story. Rion Ward is an ex mob guy who now owns his own legal business(es) when a blast from his past comes back into his life and into his sex club Lick--Harper Shaw . She was the one who has always haunted him. Harper lost her baby several years back and now she is a widow. She is coming out of deep freeze and the only man she ever wanted, truly wanted back then and now for sex-really for anything was Rion but he turned her away. Harper isn’t going to give up and tries again now , thinking he wouldn’t possibly turn her away again. What we see is this intricate shifting between this couple- how he wants but is afraid ; how she pushes but is afraid. It’s a push and pull until suddenly everything is broken. Will Rion wake up to the fact his love is there willing to fight for him, and will Harper be willing to fight for their love? This is a great start to a new storyline that Entangled Publishing is starting called Scorched and this is one book is from the 1st of the new start of that line. I truly enjoyed this series and this books feels like it ends on a HFN ending which maybe there will be a wrap up or more about Rion and Harper sometime down the road. I know there is more to their story. For this being the first, it is a really awesome start and I cannot wait to read more from the author and publisher with books like this. My rating: 4.5 stars **** **I was given an ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review***
**ARC from Loveswept/Entangled via Net_Galley in exchange for an honest review** First a huge thank you to Entangled for the honor of previewing this book! This book comes under the new Scorch line and scorch it did! I am a Naima Simone fan and she can write a story with some heavy steam in it. This book had both. Rion and Harper friends since they were teenagers, Rion raised to fit into the Irish mob who adored Harper but never felt good enough. And so he pushes her away. His rejection stings. She marries, endures a loveless, emotionally bankrupt marriage albeit brief, he husband dies. Rion and his two best friends struggled to leave the mob and are now owners of a highly prized very successful nightclub that includes a private sex club. Harper seeks out Rion, tired of being told who, what, where and wants him to help her. He agrees, reluctantly to give her one night of no holds barred sex. In between the scenes, we are scripted with their own thoughts, things unsaid between them. The emotions run high in this book, if you pull out the sex, which a reader can do, you see two hurting people who love each other, afraid of their own vulnerabilities, risk and feelings of being unworthy. This multi-layered story comes right at you. The characters are fully developed and a great story line. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the book. I highly recommend the book and if this is the first book in the "Lick" series, I'll be first in line to read the others. Well done Naima! Thank you again Entangled!
This is one of the four books debuting the Scorched line from Entangled. This was one nice fast steamy read. Harper and Rion have a past. They both liked one another, but Rion never believed he could be worthy of Harper. Now Harper is reeling after her life has thrown her two huge curve balls. Now she wants to move on and find the woman in her she knew has always been there. She's been ashamed of that side, but she knows Rion will take care of her. Rion and his friends own a aphrodisiac club and Harper believes that's the perfect opportunity for her. Rion is going to finally have a taste of Harper that he's been dreaming about. What happens when one night isn't enough? Will Rion let past hangups ruin his second chance? Though things gets off the charts hot (a fan or cold glass of water may be needed) there is a beautiful story that goes along with it. Can't wait for more from this series.
Only For A Night is book one in the Lick series by Naima Simone. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and by the author. This book is one of the very first in the brand new Scorched line Entangled is putting out and I couldn’t be more excited about this. Naima is a new to me author and I am in love. This book was just amazing. Rion Ward is the son of a criminal in the Irish Mob. All his father wanted for his son was the same life and he began teaching him early. But then, when he was in high school being strongly encouraged by his father to quit school so he could go into “the business” full time, Rion met Harper Shaw. She was a little tiny freshman with a huge heart and a backbone of steel. She became his friend, mentor, and tutor, encouraging him to open his eyes to things he never knew existed. Rion was in awe of Harper, in awe that she would even give him the time of day. He never felt like he deserved to breathe the same air as Harper. He wasn’t good enough. Her own parents constantly discouraged their friendship. And when the day came that Harper came to him wanting something more than friendship, Rion had to let her go. “Harper Shaw wasn’t the one that got away…He’d never had her. She’d offered herself to him, but she’d never truly been his, had always been beyond his reach.” Harper was a good girl. Raised by proper parents to be a lady. She saw something in Rion no one else saw, the artist, the poet, the intellect. He could be anything he wanted to be. She probably had loved him from the start. But when she finally offered herself to him, he pushed her away. So Harper finally started dating a man that her parents approved of. Eventually when he proposed, Harper again went to Rion who gave her his blessing. Now, five years later, Harper has lost her husband. She is a widow. She spent her lifetime trying to be what her parents wanted her to be, then her husband. He made her feel dirty for wanting more out of their intimate life, to try new things. Now, two years after his death, she is ready. She wants to experience things, she wants to break free. So of course, she went to Rion, Rion and his two best friends, Sasha and Killian, have finally broken out of the mob world. The three of them now own and operate the city’s hottest and most exclusive sex club, Lick. It’s been open a year now and is a huge success. The night Harper came in to the club, he wanted to hold her close and send her away all at the same time. But then she told him what she wanted. She wanted him to show her everything she’s been missing. She wanted him to teach her the things others did at the club. Rion can’t resist finally allowing himself to have the woman that has haunted his dreams all these years but his only rule is that it will be for just one night. That’s it, then they will again say good-bye. “He’d protected her. And now, years later, he was the one escorting her into a world that she shouldn’t even know existed.” This book, just WOW! I loved it. First of all, it was so freaking hot! I mean, read it while in the freezer, hot! But it was so much more than that. Harper had been stifled and made to feel dirty for wanting things outside the norm. She was so brave to go to Lick and ask Rion for what she wanted. It was such a beautiful thing seeing her go for what she wanted, finally. I ached for Rion. He felt so much for Harper.
Great read This is the first book in the Lick series. Iron is the owner of Lick a club with his two friends Sasha and Killian they also are out of the mob and trying to stay clean and show they are more than that. Harper is the "good girl" from high school that showed Rion friendship back years ago but maybe there was more, but she also has a lot of hurt she is trying to get over. When she goes to break out of her shell she goes to Rion and makes a deal for only one night. Will it be only one night or can it be more. This was an amazing read that you don't want to put down. Naima Simone has another great read, cannot wait for the next book on this series.
Harper Shaw is finally ready to embrace a side of herself that she has kept hidden away for many years, she has always been hesitant about exploring it because of what others would think, and for fear of being shamed by her family. But she has come to realize that her needs are far more important than their personal opinions, and after all the loss she has recently faced she is more than ready to embrace her sexual desires and find a way to start feeling again... and she is certain that a night shared with her old friend Rion Ward is the perfect way to delve into this new side of herself. The minute that Rion Ward hears that Harper is in his club and asking for him he is ready to find her and send her back out the door, his club is no place a happily married woman. Seeing her after all this time has opened old wounds and caused regrets to resurface, and the idea of the good girl being in his sexy club has him on edge. He soon learns though that her life has undergone many changes since he last saw her, and she wants to embrace a side of herself that he never knew existed, and he is beyond surprised to learn that she believes he is the perfect person to help her feed her desires. Letting her back into his life could be damaging to his heart, but the idea of letting someone else help her explore this new side of herself isn't an option he's willing to consider, so he makes her a deal... just one night then they go their separate ways. Question is will one night be enough for these two? Between the cover and the synopsis for this one I was expecting a heated little tale, but the minute I dived into it I started to suspect I may be about to find a whole lot more than I bargained for... and BOY OH BOY did I, this story was HOT!HOT!HOT! From the moment Rion appeared on the page I was completely captivated with him, and left with an insatiable urge to know everything about him... and I have to say I loved every little detail I learned!! I like my alphas dark and fierce, and he is by far one the fiercest I have met to date, he commanded my attention and had me at his mercy the whole way through!! I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was empowering, sexy, and had me stepping a little outside of my comfort zone... and it was definitely worth every little step I took!! If you like your fairy tales packed with heat, then look no further, this one is sure to steam up your tablet and have to fanning yourself the whole way through!! Only for a Night by Naima Simone is one of the books launching Entangled’s new Scorched imprint. This novella is small, but packs some serious heat. Only for a Night is a second chance love story with two characters who are completely opposites of each other. At the age of sixteen, Rion Ward intervened when fourteen- year-old Harper Shaw was being picked on by a couple of jocks. An unlikely friendship was formed between a straight and narrow girl and an up and coming criminal from the streets. Years after Rion pushes Harper away for someone more worthy of her, Harper hunts Rion down to give her the only thing he can give her. Rion agrees to give Harper one night of passion and fulfill her dreams. From voyeurism to MMF action, Rion awakens the dormant vixen hidden within Harper. When you’ve had a crush on or been in love with another person for years as these two have, one night isn’t nearly enough. Only for a Night is a good start to the Lick series. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Rion’s best friends and business partners, Sasha and Killian. If they are anything like Rion, their stories promise to be just as hot and passion filled. **Received a copy from Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**
OMG.... This is not a book to read during the day in the company of others. it needs to come with a panty scorching warning. Harper with her inexperience and Rion with his experiences come together for a night of kink. and boy howdy do they explore it. The sex is a 10 for hot. The play of lead and follow, Harpers trust in Rion make the scenes flow and you will need some relief. I can't wait to get more books from this series.
WOW!!! This is a very steamy, romantic read that you will not regret picking up. I am so glad that I was afforded the opportunity to read this story that is going to be in the new Entangled Scorched line. If all the books are going to be like this, we are in for a treat and I can't wait!! Naima Simone has a way with making you feel that it is actually you in the story and not just the characters. They way that she write her characters is so heat felt that you can relate to them on such a personal level. This one was written brilliantly! The characters are very well developed and have their fair share of back history that adds to them. Rion is the son of a criminal that is in the Irish mob and encouraged Rion to follow in the "family business". Rion has been around long enough to know that he wants to try and make a different life for himself so he has stepped out of the mob business and has opened a club with 2 of his counterparts from the mob. Their club is doing very well, but it is not just your typical club, there are things that go on there that attract men for certain reasons. Harper is a young lady that has always been worried about pleasing her parents and not causing problems. Harper knew Rion from their school days together and always wanted more from their relationship, but Rion knew what her parents thought of him and he also knew that it would not be a good situation for Harper so they went their own ways and Harper married another man that her parents approved of more. Harper's husband was more conservative and was never willing to experiment with things in their relationship so anything other than "normal" was not ok with him. Harper's husband passed away 2 years ago and now she is going back to Rion for him to help her fulfill her sexual fantasies and what she is wanting to explore with. Rion is confused by Harper coming back to him but he also still has a thing for Harper and what never was for them. Rion agrees to have one night with Harper and to let them get it out of their system and move on. Will they really be able to move on or has destiny put them back together for a reason? You need to read this short story to find out. I am so glad that this is part of a series because I can't wait to see what is in store for us next from Naima Simone!!
Only for a Night by Naima Simone is the first in her Lick series, centered on an Aphrodisiac club (a.k.a Sex Club). Rion is a co-owner of the club, a former member of the Irish mob who fought to get free of his obligations there, but still has some ties to his former life. His club offers anything the heart and body desires, with some no limit playrooms for the really adventurous (though of note, they do draw the line at unsanitary and illegal acts, meaning you won't find anything too discomforting). Still, plenty of kink to go around with your usual BDSM play. When his former high school friend Harper shows up, he's shocked and determined to keep her away from this steamier side of his life. But Harper, widowed for two years, has finally gotten up the courage to go after what she wants, and that's one night with Rion, no holds barred. Will Rion give her the fantasy night of her life? And when it's over, will he be able to let her go? This is a novella length novel, but packs a whole lot of heat into a second chance romance. Harper never cared about Rion's background as a poorer kid from the wrong side of the tracks, one who got involved with the mob at a young age through no choice of his own. She was always attracted to him, but once Rion's hands got bloody with the mob's work, he couldn't stand the thought of touching her innocence with his guilt, and broke off their friendship and all ties. But he never stopped wanting her, and when Harper makes it clear she doesn't want a relationship, just a chance to explore her sexuality with a man she trusts, he's not able to resist. There's some voyeurism, menage and light bondage in this story, definitely going further than any other story that I've read from this publisher to date. But there is also a really sweet romance, as Rion comes to terms with the fact that his feelings for Harper have never waned despite their distance. And she's different than she was before, determined to make her own choices, no matter the cost. While she still has a good relationship with her parents, this time around she's not going to let them dictate who her friends can be and she wants Rion in her life now, whether they'll approve or not. I really loved the two of the together, the way that Rion was willing to indulge Harper's fantasies without censure, and how he came to realize that he couldn't let her go a second time. It was a very sexy, entertaining story, and I'm looking forward to more in this series! 4.5 stars.
3.5 - "Don't try to force my hand, baby. I'm not the boy you knew..." Stars! Naima Simone joins several other well known Entangled authors to offer up a quick read, and the beginning of her new Lick series, as part of the launch of the publishers new Scorched line. I like this authors writing style, I have pretty much enjoyed everything that I have read by her previously, but be warned, books from the Scorched line are not your run-of-the-mill romances as such so if you are looking for easy erotica, or sexy romance Only For A Night, and I suspect the following books from this series may be a little out of your comfort zone. "What I do isn’t gentle, clean or quick. You have no idea what I call sex, and you don’t want to know. You’re not ready to know." Widow Harper, turns up at Lick, looking for her former best friend and crush Rion Ward, one third owner of the club, he left her behind to her perfect life a few years before, never expecting to see her again after she married her straight as a die husband, to live her cookie cutter life. But things changed for Harper and the woman he thought he had left behind with everything her heart desired, now has nothing, and isn't even sure if her heart is actually functioning anymore. "You have no idea what I need. How can you when I’m trying to figure it out myself." What follows is one night of sexual discovery for one, and the rediscovery of long dormant feelings for the other. This was the part of the story-line I really got stuck into, as Naima really gave them both a decent back-story to move the reconnection on from at a quick pace. Lust looked gorgeous on her. She was meant to wear it. Nothing hugely original about the plot or tropes used, but the sweet moments at the end made it a worthwhile read for me even if the middle left me a little miffed from lack of disclosure. Only For a Night has a mellowness that I did not expect. Rion has that dangerous edge that makes him a great target for dirty fantasies and Harper is his forbidden fruit. There was a hardness to Rion that was his shield against the darkness that permeated his life from an early age. He allowed it to influence his relationship with the one bright spot in an otherwise turbulent existence. Harper. Her heart has always belong to Rion but can she convince him of that? Ms. Simone kept the story short but still managed to convey a story that was about more than hormones. Only For a Night is about triumph over adversity and making sure every second counts.
