Only Him by Melanie Harlow

He was my first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.
But I'm not a lovesick teenager anymore, and I'd never let that cocky troublemaker break my heart again.
So when he shows up out of the blue asking me to have dinner with him "for old time's sake," I say I will. After all, it's been twelve years, and I'm stronger and smarter than I was back then.
Except...he still does something to me. He's got those eyes that make me weak, those hands that drive me wild, and a body I can't resist--especially once I see the tattoos. It doesn't take long for our trip down memory lane to go from sweet to sizzling.
We're just as good together as we were back then--better, even--and I'm willing to give the only man I've ever loved another chance.
But he's got to tell me the truth.

* * *

All I wanted was to see her again. Tell her I'm sorry. Make her smile.
Okay, that's a lie. I wanted to do more than that--a lot more. But I know she's better off without me, and I promised myself I'd behave.
Except I've never been much good at keeping promises...or my hands to myself when I'm around her.
I can make her laugh, I can make her cry, I can make her body surrender to mine in ways that neither of us could have imagined back then. I can--and I do--love her more than she'll ever know.
But I can't tell her the real reason why I'm here.
And I can't stay.

Triumph after adversity! Maren and Dallas are perfect together. I really enjoyed their story!

This is is second book in a series of standalone’s. However, I totally recommend reading Only You first. This is Maren’s Story, sister to Emme from Only You. Maren’s never got over her first love; the one that ran out 12 years ago without so much as a goodbye. Since then she’s dated but she never had the connection she had with Dallas so many years ago. So she’s completely shocked when Dallas Shows up at her door out of the blue. Maren definitely has her guard up but she agrees to go to dinner with him “for Old Times Sake”. She can handle this. She’s not the kid she was back this. She want fall for his charm. But when he surprises her at dinner and the more time they spend together all those feelings start to come back again. It’s only him that’s ever made her feel this way and she’s so ready to give things a second chance. But there’s secrets that he’s hiding. And is it enough to tear them apart forever? Such a sweet, angsty emotional read!! Love Maren and Dallas chemistry! I couldn’t wait to see how things worked out for these two!! I absolutely loved Dallas with all his ink and his heart of gold! He only ever had the best intentions! I absolutely loved the ending! Melanie doesn’t disappoint and I can wait to get Stella’s story!!

This book took my heart through the wringer, twisted up, shredded it and somehow it came out so much better. Dallas just took a hold of my heart. So many times I wanted to reach in and hold him. Maren was a great person to compliment him. She gave him what no one else did. He was just too stubborn to see it but I’m so glad the got their HEA.

The above phrase perfectly describes the feeling of this book. As we run day by day into the future, our choices and past experiences shape us, enrich us, and make us who we are. However, in some cases, we always leave loose ends, unresolved situations, open wounds. Sometimes we just recognize the problem and move on. Others, these open questions prevent us from moving forward. To what extent can unfinished business interfere with our present life? What if a ghost from the past reappeared? Maren understands these issues very well. With a balanced life, she can say that she has reached perfection, but recurrent dreams do not let her sleep. Trying to discard the motives that might be behind her dream, she finds no loose ends, no regrets to justify. She left her ballet career by choice and does not regret it, she teaches yoga, which is a passion, she has his own studio, loving sisters, travels in her free time, her life is normal. Really? As much as she does not want to admit to herself, there is an outstanding question in her life. An issue that lasts for exactly 12 years. And it goes by the name of Dallas, her boyfriend of adolescence, her first love, that left without saying goodbye. To say that she was surprised to answer the bell one fine day and stumble upon anyone other than Dallas on the other side of the door is euphemism. Dallas is seeking closure. Years have gone by, that rebellious teenager who lived in trouble has grown, today is a well-known tattooist, lives his life intensely, not giving satisfaction for anyone, but a turn of fate will make him seek completion for the only regret he had in life: hurt Maren, the girl he loved so much and still loves, even after so much time. The focus of the book is on this forgiveness, to what extent what happened in the past can be forgotten and left behind. Maren and Dallas loved each other. And they still love each other, that's undeniable. As long as time has passed, the two have built their lives, the sentimental part has always been a mystery to the two, they have not been able to find a relationship because they are still stuck in the past. As the two reconnect, a great secret that Dallas hides threatens to jeopardize this second chance. Maren wants to live intensely the new opportunity that life has given her. Dallas on the other hand, is trapped between the love he feels for her and the glimpse of an enigmatic future. The book is good, the characters have a foundation, the reader manages to connect with them, Maren is sweet and determined at the same time, has suffered a lot in the past, and the unexpected blow has caused her to distance herself from love, as a form of protection. Dallas always felt inadequate, suffocated by the unrealistic expectations of his parents, and the fame of bad boy troublemaker was the armor he had to wear to keep standing. His secret will bring moments of apprehension, his choices will not always be right, he will make a lot of mistakes along the way, his stubbornness is a problem, but you can understand him, even if he does not agree with his actions. It is worth reading.

As teens, Maren and Dallas thought they'd be together forever. Until the night that Dallas left without explanation. Maren was heartbroken and doubted her ability to love again. She loved her sisters and her parents, but never gave her heart to another man again. Maren went on to pursue her ballet dreams, but decided to return home to open a successful yoga studio. Plagued by a bad dream that kept her from sleeping at night, she was sent home for the weekend to relax and get some sleep. Her plans were interrupted by a knock at her door... Dallas made stupid decisions as a teen. So much that his parents decided to send him away to school. Never feeling as though he was "good enough" was ingrained into Dallas' mind. His parents frequently asked him, "why can't you be more like your brother"? Thus his relationships with his family were strained. The only person that ever made him feel loved, at home, and good enough was Maren. After receiving bad news, Dallas decides to reconnect with Maren to apologize for the past, for not saying good bye. Eventually, Maren forgives Dallas. They quickly fall in love, only for Dallas to pull away AGAIN.... Melanie Harlow really knows how to tug on your heartstrings! This novel has all the feels. There's love, mistrust, judgement, comedy, break-ups, reunions, family bonding, and so much more. I loved that Dallas was not only a tattoo artist, but an artist as well. Dallas was absolutely swoon-worthy, but VERY stubborn. I did want to knock Maren upside the head towards the end when she was being so stubborn and resistant to change! I can't wait to read Stella's story! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I love Second Chance Romance and Only Him is a perfect example of this trope. The premise that The One you were sure was destined to be your life forever, only to be separated for whatever reason, and later reunited is my idea of the best HEA! This is the second book in the One and Only series, featuring the Devine sisters, and it is a Standalone. This is Maren’s story and it reunites her with Dallas, her high school first and only love, who suddenly left without an explanation twelve years earlier. Maren Devine teaches yoga at her own studio, something she loves doing. She had studied to be a ballet dancer, and had been with the American Ballet Theater in NYC for a year, with an apprenticeship, before deciding to drop out and return to Detroit. Now twenty-nine, she’s content with her life and has a close relationship with her sisters, Emme and Stella. All except her love life, or lack of. Lately she’s had a disturbing nightmare that has her exhausted and wondering what the meaning of it is. When Emme wonders if it could have anything to do with an unresolved relationship, or more to the point, with Dallas Shepard, Maren is quick to deny he could be the cause. “My first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.” Dallas has been living in Portland, Oregon for years, working as a tattoo artist. At thirty, he hasn’t had a relationship since he left Maren without an explanation, embarrassed he was being sent away. Having grown up with a brother, Finn, who was the perfect child, his parents had always compared him to Finn and found him lacking, he’d acted out throughout his teen years; until his parents decided to send him to boarding school, after a prank went wrong, and they’d had enough of his antics. On his way to Boston, where Finn lives, for an appointment he’s arranged for Dallas, he decides to stop off in Detroit and make amends to Maren. He feels she deserves an apology, after all these years, and wants to do it in person. “You were the last person on earth I ever wanted to hurt.” “You were the last person on earth I ever thought would hurt me.” There’s so much going on with Maren and Dallas in the story, so much which was a mystery is explained; but there’s still more that isn’t due to secrets one of them is unwilling to share. There’s a little angst and a lot of humor in the story and it’ll have you glued to your seat, until the very HEA ending!

Oh, how Dallas and Maren captured by heart. I loved everything about their story. There is something about second chance romance stories that get me every time, add in that it was a first love, second chance romance and I was in heaven! The emotion that I felt in this book, oh my. It was everything I needed. It's been 12 years since they've seen each other but the feelings are still there when they do see each other. Watching these two reconnect was so much fun. You could tell that there was a connection still that never left; there was a reason they haven't been in relationships since. Like any good stories there are challenges they have to overcome, but watching them overcome these challenges to be together was sweet.

Only Him is a second or third chance romance, we have Dallas who left town many years before. Maren was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Unfortunately his parents sent him away to boarding school to straighten him out. He had very little notice, so when he left he never said goodbye. The present day Dallas works in a tattoo shop in Portland miles from where he grew up. After a life threatening diagnosis he decides to say goodbye to Maren on the way to Boston to see a specialist. I’ve just realised I’m rehashing the story and you want to discover that for yourself. Unfortunately for me I’ve been in Dallas’s position and can understand wanting to connect we people we love. This is a scorching hot sexually, but the love between Maren and Dallas is pure and enduring. I loved this story and enjoyed every minute. I was left with a feel good feeling. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As the second book in the "Only" series, this book had a lot to live up to because I LOVED Emme and Nate from the first book. As usual, Ms. Harlow did not disappoint!!! I have to say that in the first book, I wasn't a fan of Maren with her fru fru welcome the universe ways, but she totally grew on me in this book. Dallas was her first everything and when he abruptly left, she was devastated. As you can imagine, this led to unsuccessful relationships, a whole bunch of what if's, etc. Enter Dallas who makes a pit stop on his way to Boston to finally, FINALLY say he was sorry. From the minute she opened the door, the chemistry between the two was reignited. The story had it's sad parts but I have to say this couple won me over, It was sweet and poignant and I did not want it to end. Melanie Harlow seems to always make me want more! The good thing is that there is another story in this series and in true Harlow fashion, I'm sure we will be seeing Emme, Nate, Maren and Dallas again. This will not be a book you can put down, nor will you want it to end!

Iup... It's official... I'm almost insane... On one hand I have so many books to read and one the other I have tons of series to watch... So what do you think I'll choose?? Books of course... And coming from someone that used to hate reading, insane right?? Melanie Harlow has been a constant in my reading life and I hope she stays like that for more years to come. Have you had the chance to read a book from her? If you had you know what I'm talking about but if you haven't... Dayum... Go read it now... You'll see... Melanie Harlow is amazing. Her writing is hot and wild, simple yet pretty detailed, full of feelings, of real people and their struggles. Her words have the ability to slice your heart open or put a smile on your face. Get ready because not everything is a bed of roses... Just saying. Only Him is her latest release and it's book two from the One and Only series. Each book can be read as a standalone but I advise you to read Only Us first... You'll love it. This book explores the lifes of Maren and Dallas. We met Maren in book Only Us because she's Emme's sister. She's a sweet girl, always caring and funny but something is off. She's not herself anymore and that is becoming a problem. Back in the days she was an amazing ballerina but those days are over so now she is a yoga instructor. Her heart was broken the day the love of her life disappeared. And now... Dallas is a stubborn arse. Not only his he a dream but he's also sexy as hell. He is used to hide himself from everyone but that can become a problem. Secrets can become a problem whe they get in the way of true happiness. Twelve years ago he had made the worst decision in his life but he thought it was the only way. And now... I'm so happy for the chance to read this book. I've read the first one from this series and wanted to know more about the sisters so it was a pleasure to read a new one. The plot is amazing, super engaging and intense, full of feelings and emotions into the mix. The interation between the characters is beautiful despite all the trouble surrounding them. Reading this book was a joy but the bumps on the road left me mad... This book presented us with love, friendship, laughter, second chances as well as loss, pain, heartache, secrets and lies. There were parts of the book that I wanted to slap someone but there were others that I just wanted to hold them... It's amazing when true love is found but when you fuc.... that up it takes time to get it back... Amazing book... Melanie... What can I say? This series is getting better and I can't get enough of it. Two sisters down and one to go... Can't wait for that one... I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Melanie is an expert at men. I love her men! And Dallas is no exception. The story she tells in Only Him of second chance romance will tug at your heartstrings and it wouldn't be a Melanie book without that scorch factor!

Only Him was such a beautifully written book. Second Chance romances are always my favorite books to read, and Melanie Harlow has written such an emotional one. The words flowed like only Melanie can write them. She has a talent for throwing in wit and humor in a story that give you a rollercoaster of emotions. Only Him is Book 2 in this series of standalones. You do not have to read book 1 to enjoy this story. Each novel is a about the Devine sisters. We read about Emme and Stella’s book is next. Only Him is the story of Maren and her high school boyfriend Dallas. I enjoyed this book so much. Although I think that Maren did let Dallas back in her good graces a little to easily. I would have made him work for it just a tad more. Although Dallas was so stubborn, I really loved the relationship growth between him and Finn. They’re relationship was so strained but I was wonderful to see them turn towards each other. I’m looking forward to reading the next book, Stella’s story! Can’t wait!

Melanie Harlow does it again!! Only Him is a swoony and sexy second chance romance that did quite a number on my feels. My goodness!! I did not expect to be so emotionally wrecked. I loved this book. It made me laugh and cry (multiple times) and swoon. With these great characters and this amazing storyline, Only Him is a second chance you don't want to miss. We first met Maren in Only You. She is Emme's free spirited, yoga enthusiast sister with a good heart and calming personality. Maren has been unlucky in love. She sees her sisters in stable relationships and wants what they have. Her last serious relationship was with her high school sweetheart, Dallas Shepard - the rebellious bad boy who abruptly left her and broke her heart. Years later, Dallas is back to make amends. He was only meant to apologize and move on but their chemistry is as strong as ever. I loved Dallas and Maren's connection, even after so much time apart. I love their banter, their sweetness, their sexual chemistry. I loved it all. They fit so perfectly together. I will say though, Dallas conflicted me like no other. He made me swoon and at the same time frustrated the hell out of me. There were times that I wanted to shake him and say "what are you doing?!" I understood his reasoning for wanting to keep Maren away and that the way he was brought up effected how he saw himself but...ugh! I still love him. Only Him is a great example of why Melanie Harlow is one of my go to authors. I can't wait to see where she goes with Stella's story.

Only Him was a sweet, sexy, slightly angsty read. This story was about second chances and the bumps in the road that you come across along the way. I really enjoyed reading about Maren. I thought she was interesting and different and unique. She was also strong, even when other didn’t want her to be and when she didn’t believe she was. Dallas was troubled and conflicted, but oh so in love with Maren. They were definitely soul mates and this story made you believe in them and root for them to have their HEA. I always love Melanie’s writing style and was so excited to revisit her other characters. I am so very excited to read about Stella in the next book!

¨Now, then, always and only yours¨ 5 Stars Maren and Dallas... Oh boy! Where should I start? We´ve met Maren very briefly in Emme and Nate´s book. I have to admit that I was very curious to know more about her story. She seemed to be the cooler sister. I just couldn´t imagine that there was a heartbreak behind her zen manners. *** ¨My stomach hollowed. Dallas Shepherd. My first crush, my first kiss, my first everything. He’d had the body of an athlete, the hands of an artist, the face of a god, the charm of a fairy tale prince, and the sense of a cinder block.¨ *** I have to confess that, at first, I was very pissed about all that hapenned between Maren and Dallas in their past. After all, we only knew her side of the events. It´s hard not to feel bad for her. But then... *** ¨The vise on my heart contracted. Of course I still loved her. I’d never tried not to love her. No matter what I had done, or how long it had been, or how many other women had tried to take her place in my heart, she was always there, as permanent as any tattoo on my body.¨ *** This was when I stopped and decide that a guy who thought like that about a girl couldn´t be a total douchebag, and that Dallas deserved a chance to steal my heart, as well as all the guys from Melanie´s other books. *** My heart stopped. It had been twelve years, but I recognized him instantly. That unruly hair. The square jaw, now covered with scruff. That dimple in his chin. Those deep-set eyes, somewhere between sage green and cerulean blue. The sculpted lips, curving into a smile at the sight of me. The memory of those lips on mine clutched at my throat—I couldn’t breathe. F*** you, universe. “Hey, stranger.” Dallas’s voice was a little deeper. His chest a little broader. *** Yeah, Maren, I totally get you. When you described Dallas, my heart stopped too... You can´t help falling for these two. When they get together after all those years, they realize that it´s impossible to resist the scorching hot chemistry and the connection between them. We finally learn that Dallas never stopped loving and thinking about Maren. He was a wild teenager when they were together, and his (asshole) parents decided to send him away. He left without saying goodbye and that´s his biggest regret. Dallas is such a great character. It was so unfair to see the way his family treated him. He´s sweet, romantic, strong, insecure, and vulnerable. It´s the perfect combination. The huge problem he´s facing turned his life upside down. That´s the reason he decided to look for Maren in the first place. But I don´t think he expected to find the missing piece of his heart. Of course you can expect lots of crazy, funny moments, such as school pranks, pillowcases, bee´s jokes, a certain Madam Psuka (seriosly, where can we find her? She´s awesome! I really need to ask her a few things...). I just know that I could never hear about chakra cleanse without having very dirty thoughts again! Only Him is another beautiful second chance love story, that´s going to steal your heart. I can´t wait for the next book in the series. It´s going to be about the third sister, Stella, and I bet it´s going to be the bee´s knees (

I really LOVED this second chance story. I enjoyed it even more than the first book in this series. Only Him was the story of Maren and Dallas. Maren is the younger sister to Emme from the first book. And Dallas was her high school boyfriend and first love, who she never got over. When he was 17 he got sent away and never told Maren goodbye or why he left. Twelve years have gone by and neither has quit thinking of the other. She is still angry that he left and she can’t seem to let go of her hurt feelings from him leaving her. He feels guilty for hurting the one person he ever loved. My heart hurt for both of them. Dallas had a childhood that broke my heart. And Maren thought she would never find love again. I enjoyed watching their story unfold. It all felt very realistic and made me feel so many emotions. I will definitely be recommending this beautiful, second chance at love story to all of my reading buddies.

4.5 amazing stars. Only Him by Melanie Harlow, had me in tears, not just of sadness but at one point out of utter frustration with the characters. It also made me laugh and smile, and my heart sing. This is a wonderful second chance romance about high school sweethearts Maren Devine and Dallas Shepherd who were madly in love as only teenagers can be. That all consuming love that sees not fault in the other person. Maren was like that until Dallas left her without a goodbye during their senior year. She tried to forget about him and move on but even twelve years later he’s still on her mind. Dallas hadn’t wanted to leave his hometown, but his parents didn’t give him an option.Dallas has struggled to put his past behind him, he’s always felt lacking due to being held up against his older and much smarted brother, Nate, whom we met in Only You book 1 of the One and Only series.. Now, twelve years later, he’s facing the biggest decision of his life and he wants to set the record straight with the girl he never forgot. The one he’s always loved. But those years have left Maren jaded and wary. She’s not sure what to think when Dallas turns up on her doorstep out of the blue. Is his sudden appearance linked to the crazy nightmare’s she’s been having for weeks on end? Can she dare to try again or will it all end in tears? Gosh, I was crazy in love with these two. Dallas acted tough, the bad boy who liked to play pranks and get in trouble, but underneath he was just a lonely boy who wanted his parents to show him some real love and affection. He was talented in ways that differed from his older brother, but that shouldn’t have made him seem less of an accomplished scholar in his parents’ eyes. Unfortunately, that’s what he had to deal with. The chemistry was zinging between Dallas and Maren, it was clear from their first page together that these two had never gotten over their broken relationship. I truly loved this story and read it in one sitting, it was a fairly fast-paced with a wonderful ending, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I am an absolute sucker for second chance romances featuring childhood sweethearts and Only Him fit the bill perfectly. It will pull on your heartstrings and give you all the feels. Readers may remember meeting Maren in Only You, but this book can be read as a stand alone. Dallas and Maren have a complicated relationship. They shared an incredible connection that no other man or woman has come close to ever replicating. The sudden and drastic end of their relationship in high school though has left them both without closure and with heavy regret. When they finally reconnect after more than a decade apart, it's clear that the chemistry they once shared is still alive and well. Who knew clearing your chakra's could be so hot!? Demons from the past and trust issues continue to plague them, however, and threaten to destroy the second chance they may have found. Will love be enough to overcome their fears this time? The relationship between the Devine sisters is the best and I have always loved the way that Melanie Harlow writes her female characters and friendships. I loved checking in with Nate and Emme and was so happy with the little tidbits we got about the progression of their relationship. Bee-lieve me when I say that I'm also really excited for Stella's story next! ;) I need to say too that this cover might be my very favorite of Melanie's books. Yum. Yum. YUM! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Only Him by Melanie Harlow a five-star read that will have you dwelling on only one man. This is the second book in the One and Only series but it could be read as a stand-alone, but I would say read Only You first if you haven’t already as you will want to go back and read it, the writing is just that good. This story has a unique mix of steamy scorching scenes and cringe worthy toe curling embarrassing funny situations. This book will have your heart in your throat one minute, the pit of your stomach the next and then lower much lower in the next breath. Without giving spoilers this is a gut wrenching and drama filled read, that will bring tears to your eyes and a love to your heart. This was one of the most moving stories I have read in a long time, it will stay with me for a long time of that I’m sure. Melanie Harlow if you don’t give us a story that buzzes next I may cry!!

A Review of Only Him by Melanie Harlow Maren and Dallas - 5+++++ Stars Like all of the other books I've had the chance to read by Ms. Harlow, this book broke my heart several times and then stitched it back together with the ASTOUNDING words she gives her readers. If you've read the other book in this series, you will recognize many of the characters that are in or mentioned in this book, with the sisters being the main focus. I also loved the mention of Mia and Lucas, along with the fact that their vineyard is where Emme and Nate will be getting married. We knew a good deal about Maren from Emme's book, but we finally get to learn about the man in her past that has held her heart all this time. You definitely don't want to miss this book, so grab it as soon as you can! It's going on my list of top reads for the year. **Honest review voluntarily provided from a Complimentary Copy**
