It pains me to give a Lisa Kleypas book one star. It really does. Normally I LOVE her. I've read almost all of her books and this is the first one I haven't liked.. In fact, I was a little horrified by this book. Brace yourself...This is spoiler-y but I think you'll want to know before you buy this book that...... The hero rapes the heroine in the first hundred pages. Rapes her in an almost pseudo ode-like fashion of the romance books of the 1970's and 1980's. It made me feel queasy. I mean she says "no" several times. Has classic reactions of rape victims, (tries to mentally detach herself from the situation, for example.) But you know it's OK that he forced her to have sex with him because afterward (and mind you, heroine goes through a hell of lot of trauma even BEFORE the rape) she "liked" it. *Blec*...I almost threw my nook across the room. Besides the rape scene, I also wasn't a big fan of the hero (obviously) or the heroine. he was a gigantic A-hole who really didn't have any redeeming qualities, although he was a very consistent character, I'll give him that. And she was a wimpy heroine who lacked a back bone...And may also have been borderline manic. Overall it was just not an up to par Kleypas book, for me. I really liked the prequel to this one though. That is a great one, but the follow up...wasn't much a follow up.

I love Lisa Kleypas, and have enjoyed all the books I have read of hers. I was a bit dissapointed when I found out that the Vallerand series was set in New Orleans vs. the UK - but it didn't take me long to be googleing information about History of Lousiana. I think that this book is great - obviously there are people who don't agree. I very muched loved the characters and was very attached to them - hated to see it end in many ways.

I've read each and everyone of Lisa Kleypas books and this one is probably my favorite. I love the character of Ceilia and loved Justin even more. Love how they come together in the story, and the love scenes are wonderful.

In this Swashbuckling Erotic Romance-Adventure, lie hidden just above the surface, intrigue, deception, and mysteries that will have you gasping until the actual conclusion. The perilous passion Celia & Griffin posses will ignite your concealed Swashbucklers Fantasy to be unfastened at the very seam. As you've been languidly lying upon your bed, just satisfied from your own release. Who needs a knight in shining armor? When you can experience your own devilishly wicked pirate instead. I haven't read a Lisa Kleypas novel that has displeased me, thus far. As soon as I think I could escape to another author, she manages to suck me back in, and entangle me within another STUPENDOUS, RIVETING, CARNAL, ANIMALISTIC NOVEL. This novel has my seal of approval, and as usual, ALWAYS DESERVING WELL BEYOND A 5 STAR RATING!!

? I enjoy different plots not the same old same old. This one was quite different and I am sure I will be reading it again. A keeper for sure! Love Lisa's originality! ?

I am a great fan of Lisa Kleypas and this book pleased me to no end. However, this book had elements that set it apart from the others. The main difference is that the main characters are french, the setting is both France and the United States. The plot involves pirates and a lot of violence including rape. But my God, I love it. This book was raw bonned and exciting. I would like to see it as a movie. It was swoon worthy.

I loved this book...talk about action, it would make a great movie. Dont read this without reading When Strangers Marry first. Otherwise the character of Justin wont make sense. Poor Phillipe doesnt get the attention his character deserves in this book. I love the way Justin brings Celia to life. This transformation is very true to life although the plot of this story is truly outlandish. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorites. Julie Ann Long is another.

I really, REALLY liked this book!!!!! It stared out great in almost every aspect, except I kind of thought that Celia was a little two weak and snobbish for my tastes (I tend to like more bold and strong willed, but still kind and still totally feminine, women) but Lisa did a total switch on me. Celia had a back bone after all!! I thought the book progressed nicely. Celia and Justin first really couldn't stand each other but had an unexplainable desire for one another, then they start developing feeling for one another (feelings they both fought naturally), then they finally give in and admit that they love one another. I also loved that Justin was such a hard son of a gun at the beginning of the story but because of Celia he starts to soften and become a better man. It's the ultamite bad boy reformed story! All the girls know that it's hard to resist the bad boys and I don't think I have met one girl who tried to at least once, change a bad boy, a lot of time without success. It was nice to read that, even though fantacy, bad boys can change for the love of the right woman. READ THIS BOOK!!!!! You wont be disappointed.
