When you slice up a birthday cake you usually scrape the knife off between each slice otherwise the pieces look messy and unappetizing when you serve it. By the time you're finished there's a pile of leftover frosting and cake bits on the plate that a lot of people throw away, but not me. That happens to be my favorite part of the cake, right behind the corner piece, you know, the one will all the frosting? If you're wondering what any of this has to do with Opal, just hold your Luxen, I'm getting there. *winks* I was so.very.excited to read this, I mean, it is Daemon Black we're talking about but you add Dawson to the mix and it's like scoring the corner piece of birthday cake AND getting to lick the plate it was served on. (Now I want cake.) I thoroughly enjoy Jennifer's writing style and she has a way of giving readers what they want, maybe not at the exact moment they want it, but just when we need it. Opal picks up where Onyx leaves off and while it didn't move as quickly as the previous books that was totally OK because it lent some much needed time for adjusting to life with Dawson, healing, preparation for the fight ahead, and of course, kissing. These characters learn hard lessons about love, loss and exactly what it means to "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Dawson rarely speaks but it's painfully obvious he's racked with guilt and wants nothing more than to get Beth back. *hugs Dawson* Dee is harboring anger and hurt over Adam as well feeling betrayed by Katy and Daemon and her inability to be in the same room with Katy, let alone "friends" is hard for everyone. Daemon is torn between his feelings for Katy and his need to protect both she and Dawson and there are some truly heartbreaking moments for him. *clutches Daemon* Katy struggles with the changes that have happened to her over the past few months and the guilt she feels about being responsible for it all. She even begins to question her own humanity but Daemon does a great job of supporting and encouraging her. Now, if he would just say those three little words, you know, in English. *shakes him* Their scenes are definitely steamier than before *fans face* but as always, Jennifer keeps it classy. Everything builds up to this ending and while I had an idea of what would happen (there are a few clues scattered about) and I knew we wouldn't get another "calm" ending like with Onyx, I still...well, let's just say the Source really hit the fan and left me feeling all the feels. I can't wait to see how this all ends! Btw, If you don't fall in love with Daemon by the end of this book then I think it's safe to assume, you're either an Arum or a Zombie. And yes Dee, I know what happens when you "assume" things. ;D

Best book in the series yet. Can Not Wait For Origins. What a cliffhanger at the end. My only complaint is the cover models. They don't match up the characters in my head.

AMAZING! How could it end like that though? The book was fantastic--just plain awesome, but I hated that Dee was more distant and acted NOTHING like herself. It was weird. But it rocked that Dawson was in this one and he actually became more normal slowly and gradually. I hate Blake--always have, always will. Nothing he can do will EVER change that. EVER.

OMG, I’m so glad I started the new year with this novel! Opal was amazing and intense – like you would never believe. And if I thought I couldn’t love Daemon any more than I already had, I was dead wrong! Of course, after reading Opal, I know understand why so many people have opted to wait for Origin (Lux #4) to be released before reading this novel. It has a killer cliffhanger! One that left me in both in shock and in tears! And dangling like this, waiting to see what happens, is murder. I need the next book! And I need it, like, yesterday! So as you can tell, I’ve become completely addicted. Unfortunately, I can’t go into much more detail about my obsession without possibly giving something away from the plot, but let me just end this by saying YOU HAVE TO READ THIS SERIES!

What an ending! Like wow! Very unexpected but very good clifthanger. I love this series and very glad I stumbled on this book a while ago. The book was slow at first but definitely made up for it between the juicy scenes and that ending! I didn't know there was going to be another book and very relieved when I found out there will be.

I hadn't really done my research very well when I started these books. Normally I look into them if they're part of a series. Try to figure out how many books there are, and how many of those are already written and published. Mostly because...well...I'm impatient! >.< If I am really into something it's agonizing thinking I may have to wait to find out what's going to happen next. Sometimes I'll read them anyway and then just reread when I get the latest installment. But if it's coming close to a final book I tend to hold off and then dive into everything at once. I had noticed there were 2 others so my brain stupidly told myself, "Hey! Sweet! Trilogy! Go! Go! Go!" I'm reading Opal and oh so much is going on and I'm in that "book high" zone and it's getting closer and closer to the end and I'm starting to get worried. It doesn't seem like there's going to be enough time to end the series properly. What a disappointment that would be, after falling in love so deeply with these books! I know, I know I'm slightly obsessed :P I keep trudging on and on. So many things are happening and it's incredibly stressful. Everything is riding on the event that takes place in the last few chapters. I'm holding my breath cheering for them in my brain, I mean it's almost at the end, there has to be a happy ending! And then I finally get to the end, those last 4 words that form the last sentence of Opal and... and I swear my heart broke just a little. There were probably a few tears as well. I might have even said a few curse words ha ha! Talk about cliffhangers! Trust me July cannot get here fast enough!!! But torturous cliffhangers aside, this book is yet again another amazing installment from the Lux Series. Aliens...who'd a thought? Obviously the brilliant mind of Jennifer L Armentrout! I really need to check out her other books. But I digress, back to this one. I swear this book has one of my all time favorite scenes from this series, so far..it's just so..Kat and Daemon and I adore their banter: I took a deep breath. "But if you two don't knock it off, I'll kick both of your asses." Now everyone was staring at me. "What?" I demanded, cheeks flushing. A slow, wry smile teased Daemon's lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with." Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don't start with me, jerk-face." I heart Daemon and Katy so very much :) And this is when they're in love, just think back to all the taunting and tension back from Obsidian and Onyx! Anyway if I don't stop now I'll probably wind up posting the whole thing. Like I said major cliffhanger but seriously so worth it. Now to go twiddle my thumbs and count down the days til Origin.. *Sigh* :)

If you read my other reviews, you know that I hooked to Daemon Black. And after reading this book, I can. Not. Compute. I'm going to start with the ending of the book cause my mind simply does not know what to make of it. Seriously?! What in the world just happened? I had to re-read the last paragraph a few times just to make sure I read what I read. And then I took a deep breathe, slamming the book to the floor. No. Just no. It can not....*smh* Alright, now that I got that out of my system I really loved this book. Despite the desperate emotionally ending, I'm officially in love with Jennifer Armentrout. Her writing is phenomenal and always on target. The plot of the book is so awesome, once I started the book I would finish it till the last page. The love interest is of course freaking awesome! Daemon is back and better than ever. Katy and Daemon love blooms to an enticing level you never want to get out of. I adore Katy's loyalty to Daemon and his family. She goes out of her way to make sure she does her part. Their fights make their relationship real. They don't sugarcoat stuff or lie to each other. They are a team, working together for the same cause. Back to the ending, it was awesome. In those small moments of change and declaration, my eyes teared up. I felt everything rushing back, the first time they met, the first kiss, the first fight, all for it to come down to this. Opal is an expertly woven tale of action and adventure. It's set the goals higher than ever for the next book. It creates a deeper depth of emotion that set me on overload. Even days after reading it, I still can't believe it. An indescribable story that keeps getting better and better, Opal is compelling.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Lux series since the moment I read the first novel in the series and have been highly anticipating Opal after reading the first two novels in the series. After eyeing Opal on my bookshelf, I was ready to get more Daemon, more aliens and more danger. After reading the premise of Opal over and over again, I was almost nervous to begin reading. The fact that there were risks being taken and Katy and Damon finally being in a real relationship, I was worried about it all falling apart. Sadly, things do begin to fall apart while a few others manage to get fixed right up, but in the end I didn’t care because Opal is definitely my favorite novel in the series so far and has left me dying for whatever sequel it will bring. Opal continues right where Onyx left off, every Luxen that Daemon spends his time with is mourning the loss of Adam—especially his sister Dee. Dee who is heartbroken by Adam’s death breaks off her friendship with Katy which leaves our main character feeling sorrowful while also dealing with the massive list of problems on her plate: 1) Daemon’s brother Dawson is back in the picture and he will do anything to get Beth back 2) big bad agents have been have been popping up all over the place 3) Katy’s mom’s creepy boyfriend may or may not have survived his… mutation and (the not really a problem problem) 4) Katy and Daemon are finally together for real this time. When Dawson continues to threaten to leave and save Beth and Blake comes back into the picture Katy and the group find themselves caught up in a dangerous plot to save Beth from Daedalus. All the while Daemon and Katy take their relationship to a whole other level. A big thing that I’ve really been disappointed with in the past with the Lux series is how my hunger for action would never be fully sated. I’ve loved the alien smack downs that I’ve seen in the past as well as the bullets vs. Luxen scenes, however there was never a constant flow of legitimate fighting and that would always leave me a bit irked. Definitely not the case with Opal, not only are the stakes raised in this novel, but there’s also tons of action in the plot. There were more than just a few fight scenes and finally Katy becomes the badass that we all secretly guessed she would become. With Blake returning (and after killing Adam, shame on him!) everybody wants nothing more than to kill him and (after mourning Adam’s loss) Dee is at the top of that list. Personally, I liked finally getting to see a darker side of Dee since she was always the ray of sunshine in the series. Romance plays a big part in Opal mainly because Daemon and Katy are together. In the last novel we saw Daemon try to prove to Katy that his feelings for her are real and now that they’re in a relationship he plays the role of a perfect boyfriend… almost. He does slip up a few times. But other than that, Daemon does show a much softer and more protective side than we’ve seen in the past novels. Did I enjoy that Daemon was being nice for once? Yeah. Did I like that their PDA left Ash jealous? Yes I did. So what did I have a bit of a problem with? The sexy times. There were a couple of scenes that left me uncomfortable and I’ll admit that I skimmed over them because Daemon and Katy finally do a few things that start with the letter before T, has a vowel and ends with the first letter in xylophone (and give it a moment, you’ll figure it out). All I’ve gotta say is that I was quite uncomfortable during those times, but everything else was cute. As for the ending of the novel, Armentrout has done it again. Throughout the novel I had a hunch on what the ending would result in and what actually happened left me with a jaw hitting the floor. I cannot wait for the sequel after that cliffhanger ending and cannot wait for what comes next for Katy and Daemon. I’d recommend the series to fans of science fiction, readers who want an epic romance and those of you who want a series that you will never want to see come to an end.

Spoilers! The one thing I don't like about these books is that they're unnecessarily long. The book was good, but it didn't need to be as long as it was. God I hate Blake. I totally knew he would betray them. I was just waiting throughout the entire book for him to do so and then he did. I also feel like Damien and Kate and all of the others were pretty blase about trying to rescue Beth and Chris. Yes, they talked about how scared they were and what not but they just kept saying "everything is going to be fine". HOW IS EVERYTHING GOING TO BE FINE!? YOU ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO BE CAUGHT. It was pretty obvious. Anyway.... good book. I need to find out what happens next!

What the?!.... I think my book is missing some pages......it cant be..thats it?! Thats the end of the book!?! I dont why im being punished this way but it's cruel and unusual. I loved this book! Even though it was basically just a set up for the cliff hanger ending, it certainly did not disapoint. Now i'm going to eagerly await Origin until it comes out.....in june....(sigh)

~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog The big cliffhanger at the end will probably give you heart palpitations but I LOVED IT! ~ Under the Covers Annnnd the obsession continues! In the third book of the Lux series, we find everything slowing down for a moment. Blake is gone, Daemon and Kat are together and happy and Dawson is alive, but distant. That they are working on. Dee…well, Dee isn’t quite the same but she is coping. In the world of aliens, everything is somewhat peaceful. It isn’t until Dawson tries to find Beth that the real action starts. My heart completely bled for Dawson. The things he has been through have completely wrecked him and he has lost what he holds dear. Seeing Daemon and Kat madly in love reminds him of his time with Beth and he wants that back. I don’t blame him. This scene broke my heart: Dawson glanced down at his hands. “Daemon…he loves you too?” I blinked, brought back to the present. “Yes, I think so.” “He told you?” Not in so many words. “He hasn’t said it, said it. But I think he does.” “He should tell you. Every day.” Dawson tipped his head back and closed his eyes. As I mentioned, Daemon and Katy are happily seeing each other and trying to reach home base without being interrupted. Funny thing is, as happy as I am that Daemon and Katy are together, something feels …off. They have become too complacent. After the events of the last book, things have changed so much that I’m surprised the gang are still trying to maintain normalcy. Going to school seems too normal and boring for the aliens and the hybird, which is why for most of the book I felt a little bored. As expected, Armentrout doesn’t pull her punches and knocks you a good one. The big cliffhanger at the end will probably give you heart palpitations but I LOVED IT! I thought it was the perfect way to end a mediocore book and everything leading up to it definitely gave me an idea of what was to come. It bumped the rating up from a 3.5 stars to a solid 4. I love the direction Armentrout is taking with this cliffhanger ending. It was exactly what this book needed. I felt that Katy and Daemon were too comfortable when they were alone together, seeming to only want to participate in a heavy groping contest. I wanted to see more from their relationship. More conflict and more tension. In some ways, I thought that Katy was getting in the way of some scenes. She hasn’t really reached her full potential and powers so they often push her aside when things get dangerous. Katy doesn’t back down, but compared to the others, she doesn’t feel like an important piece. Since she is the eyes in which readers see, I wanted her to get into the action more and develop herself outside of her relationship with Daemon. This cliffhanger ending allows for that time to bloom and I am so very excited to see what Katy is made of!

Talk about a book hangover! Opal is all about getting into Mount Weather to rescue Bethany..... With Dawson appearing at the end of Onyx, he is now hell-bent on rescuing her without any regard for his own life. Daemon is constantly stopping him from leaving, with Katy eventually stepping in with a compromise. This book ends with a MASSIVE cliff hanger.... I LOVED IT!

What if I told you that Daemon gets even better? You're probably thinking no way that's impossible. But, in Opal, Daemon does just that. He is full of surprises that make you wish you had your very own Daemon more and more. In Opal, Katy learns even more about the secret organization that has interest in the Luxen and their healing abilities. She has to learn all she can and prepare herself for what is to come to truly protect those she cares about. Along the way, she, Daemon, and the other Luxen finds themselves working alongside an unlikely character. The stakes are high and everyone is on edge, but Katy is no longer the timid person she used to be. Usually when I read a series, the first book automatically becomes my favorite, but while reading Opal, I discovered that when it comes to the Lux series, that is definitely not the case. The things that Katy has went through have left their mark and she is no longer the same person that she previously was. She now knows that she will do anything to keep her loved ones safe, which actually kind of frightens her. So, in addition to seeing this new fierce Katy, you also get to see a different side of Daemon. He still has his jerk moments, but he has this gentler side that only those he truly cares about gets to see. I loved how much depth this gave his character. There is so much more to him than just the protective jerk you have come to know and love. He has a huge heart that only a select few get to see. The fact that Armentrout made a reference to Dean Winchester just solidified Opal as my favorite. When I saw that name in the book I had to put the book down, pick it back up, do a double take, and then proceed to just repeat "Oh my God!" over and over again. Until I get my hands on Origin (the next book in this awesome series) I can only wonder how Armentrout is even going to top this book! Some Good Quotes: "Daemon was beautiful but prickly, like a Christmas cactus." "Andrew never liked me. I don't even think he liked people in general. Or puppies. Or bacon." "I preferred ones with cute kittens and llamas. And Dean Winchester." (there was no way I was not putting the Dean Winchester sentence on here!) "Thought she said to leave the door open." "It is. It's cracked. That's Open."

Rating: 4.5 / 5. WOW!! This book was one heck of a journey. There was so much suspense, and mystery that sometimes I just wanted to skip the pages and find out what happened. This book was super duper good!! As always I totally loved Katy and Daemon, although I kind of missed Dee. She has definitely changed since the events of the last book, and not in a positive way ( I am not sure how I feel about that sudden personality change yet). Talking about change, Blake is back and he too is very different. In the last book, when Katy and Daemon decided to let Blake go, I was okay with that because even after his betrayal I kind of felt sorry for him, and I had liked him at the beginning of the book. However, this time he just made me really annoyed and angry. Plus, he still had the guts to tell Katy that he still liked her, even after all the disaster he had caused. It was harder to figure out his character in this book because one moment he is threatening others, the next he is kind, and then he is all sad and sorrowful. He kept on changing throughout the book, so it was hard to decide whether to trust him or not. But outside these two character’s personality changes, the other characters were totally fantastic. I even started to like Andrew and Ash. The only thing that I didn’t really enjoy in the book was all the seriousness, in the last book it was kind of serious, but there were also many humorous things to balance it out. In this book however, I felt that there could have been more humor to it. Everything was too serious, which is good, but still, some more funny things would have helped with all my “OMG” moments. Now the major topic: Daemon and Katy- Honestly, I just loved Daemon and Katy, and their romance in this book is great and all. However, there was a chapter in this book where things did get really spicy. You can let your imagination run wild, and take a guess about what I am talking about here. Anyway, I just think that their love for each other was really great, but certain…things didn’t need to be included in this book. Seeing that this is a young adult book, I guess that it’s kind of okay, but in my opinion I don’t think it sets a good example to young readers. I just thought that these types of particular scenes should be something that’s in mature young-adult book, and if it’s included in books like this than it shouldn’t be so explicit, or there should be some kind of warning for the younger readers. Either way, that’s just my opinion, and besides this little scene everything else was just great. I am so glad that Katy and Daemon are finally together! As with the first two books, this book also ended in a cliff hanger. I was in a serious state of denial that Jennifer L. Armentrout actually did just leave you hanging like that. The story was at its peak height of suspense, and out of nowhere, BOOM! The story is finished. As much as I hate cliffhangers, I also love them. They make the story so much more interesting. This book is a must read! Quotes: And it's once again time for daily quotes of the review (Yes, I know that doesn't sound right, but that's all I could come up with). A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. “Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with." Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face.” *** Dawson shifted, dropping his head into his hand. "Do you ever stop talking?" "When I'm sleeping," Blake replied. "And when you're dead," Daemon threw back. "You'll stop talking when you're dead." Blake's lips thinned. "Point taken.” *** “He’s like a suicidal Energizer bunny.” *** Daemon snatched the yellow packages from my hands. “Oh! Books! You have books!” I laughed as several people waiting in line looked over their shoulders. “Hand them over.” He clutched them to his chest, making moony eyes. “My life is now complete.” “My life would be complete if I could actually post a review on something other than the school library computers.”
