The character development is awesome! I love how the author allows Adam to be gritty and imperfect. Even more, I love that Carly isn't the typical boring damsel in distress. She's strong, respectful and courageous. Adam's relationship with his mother is INTENSE!! You will squirm while reading!! I can't wait to see them on the big screen. Some people compare Opaque to the Shatter Me series. Opaque crushes the Shatter Me series in so many ways. One, Shatter Me is overwrought with unnecessary metaphors that slows down the reader. Ultimately distancing you from the characters. Opaque isn't overly descriptive but does paint a very vivid picture. Even the secondary characters Jo, Dauma, Kane & Vikki are interesting. I'm actually anxious for the sequel. I have questions. Where are they really from? How did their cells mutate? Will Jo permanently mutate Jo? What happens to Vikki? Opaque definitely has a follower in me. Overall great read!

Let me start by immediately dispensing with all of the comparisons of Opaque to Shatter Me by Mafi. In my honest opinion, those who compare these two books haven't truly read them both. Opaque is in its own lane. The story follows a 16 year old high schooler named Adam, who is troubled and plagued by thoughts of his mother. Starting off, he doesn't really know to deal with his misanthropic thoughts because he doesn't understand why he feels the way he feels. Then he meets Carly on his first day of senior year. He notices that a ring around her iris turns red and disappears. That would be odd enough for the rest of us but Adam was more intrigued by the fact the he isn't repelled by her as he is by everyone else. Well, eventually he finds out all kinds of twisty things about his origins and birth that sets him on a journey that he and Carly take together. Not to spoil it for everyone but the basics are mutations never before written about, mad Russian scientists, awesome supernatural powers, love and family. I laughed alot (Adam's sense of humor is awesome) and I FOR SURE cried a few times. I mean whoa! I wasn't expecting that part. Not in a Sci-Fi. Parents will love that part. I give Opaque 5 stars because it actually surprised me and it wasn't boring. I was definitely shocked a few times.

I received this book for free online after entering a contest. The first chapter was a bit dark. But duh, the chapter title is "A Dark Mind". Adam is absolutely a new fave. I just adore him! I love the freshness of the plot and the tension it builds throughout. I'm anxiously awaiting the second book

This book has created a scion saga addict and I now follow the facebook page and I'm anxiously awaiting the second installment. Adam is a character that requires a bit of patience to understand and fall in love with, but he is TOTALLY worth it. I personally despise overly fictitious characters who are made out to be obnoxiously perfect. Adam is not that. Then there's Carly. She is MAGNIFICENT! She's strong and intelligent. The entire story has me sucked into it. It's the kind of scifi action sorely missing. I read other reviews where older adults claim that they were uncomfortable reading it. Well, its not for you and if you're uncomfortable reading about a very realistic 16 year old masturbating or swearing occasionally around other teens, then you probably have a distant relationship with your teenagers. The author writes the entire book in a classy way. I hope this turns out to be another sleeper hit because it's deserving of some awesome praise. Great job!

I can't say enough good things about opaque. It kept me on the edge of my seat so often that I nearly fell off. I love how brave the writing is. How easily I was able to follow the story meant alot to me as a reader. I'm addicted to Adam, Carly and Jo now. I actually hope they make this into a tv series because the Russian descendant line can go on for a long time. This story is full of passion, suspense, struggle, laughter and discovery. I'm already on my second time reading it. I have a huge crush on Adam!
