Intrigue, humor and suspense follow one vacationing family as they inadvertently get caught up in not one secret mission, but two! Roger and Sandra Brownwell, and their two young children, were looking forward to spending two glorious weeks, of their around-the-world vacation, traveling through China. Unfortunately, with young children, a typhoon hitting the day before they arrived, and their seemingly endless spats, a dismal mood begins to surface. And it only increases when some missionary friends ask them to smuggle some Bibles to Beijing. Sandra accepts and Roger refuses. Finally giving in to his wife’s insistence, the couple agree to meet a man. As luck would have it, they meet the wrong man, and without intending to, they step right into the middle of the CIA’s plan to extract him. With what they thought was just a casual, friendly conversation, they have sent the man to the wrong place. When Richard and Sonja – the two CIA agents on the case – realize what’s happened, they confront them and insist the Brownwell’s help them find the man. The fun is just beginning as author, David A. Todd takes the reader on an imaginative ride through China as two women – who look-alike, but couldn’t be more different – exchange places to create two extraction teams in order to find their man. What would a CIA agent who hated kids do with another woman’s children? How would a good, Christian housewife handle having to kiss and cuddle up to a womanizing agent for appearances sake? Operation Lotus Sunday, loaded with excitement and adventure, is a must read. Character and scene descriptions of China will have readers wanting to visit this history rich place. Just beware of the stranger that strolls up to say, “Excuse me, may I practice my Engrish on you?” If you enjoy fast-paced books with plenty of history, humor, suspense, intrigue and just all-around great writing, you’ll love David A. Todd’s Operation Lotus Sunday. It’s perfect for vacation. ;)
