Overview

Orange Blossom Wishes is one woman's compelling personal story of survival through years of childhood and spousal abuse, single parenthood, and many other challenges that ultimately led her on a victorious journey to freedom.

As a little girl, Carolyn Hennecy wished upon shining star after star, but it would be many years before she would see those dreams come true. An ordained minister, Hennecy battled violence, humiliation, and low self-esteem for much of her life, and shares her often devastating personal experiences to create encouraging and practical life lessons for those who feel silenced or trapped in unhealthy relationships. With engaging Southern charm, Hennecy sprinkles thought-provoking scripture and humorous anecdotes throughout her poignant memoir, all while revealing how she discovered faith in the midst of trauma and desperation. She was once a broken, damaged little girl who became a battered, mistreated woman, yet through it all, Hennecy overcame adversity to find her way out of the darkness to a life filled with happiness, all made possible by the power of God's love.

Hennecy's story will inspire and teach others that even in the midst of anguish and distress, the future holds an abundance of potential for joy and peace.

I personally know Carolyn and after hearing part of her story, told her she should write a book. She did! I wasn't sure it would be that beneficial for me since I've never been molested or physically abused. I was wrong. There were so many aspects of it that were relevant to things I have and am still going through. Points she has expessed in her book have changed the way I am now looking at things. No, we can't change people even if we do everything in our power to try to make them happy. We all have to know when to move on from an unhealthy relationship. No one wants to be alone but sometimes it is better to be so than to constantly be frustrated. I look forward to the days ahead when I hear that small, still voice to guide me on the right path to my freedom.

I got the book on a Friday and spent the weekend reading it, I could not put it down. I can't believe how many "similarities" we have in our lives. I truly believe that this book can minister to women who have been victims. They really need to see that God Can and Will get you through ANY and ALL situations !!

I began reading 'Orange Blossom Wishes' as a recommendation from a friend. I opened the book, and immediately I was drawn into a sense that I am not alone. She put into words all of the unspoken emotion that one feels while enduring horrendous acts perpetrated on the innocence of a child's mind, body, soul, and spirit. She is able to identify the cycle that takes place because of those acts, but she also gives a road map to victory. This book is a must read for everyone, because you will, at some point in your life either be a victim, or be involved with a victim, and what better tool could you have at your disposal? Buy it!

I know this author's accounting is the truth from her heart. She has overcome so many obstacles and through a heart of forgivness she is now knowing what it is like to be set free, to reap the precious rewards that god has to offer her. She is an amazing southern lady with the charm and wit to make this an intruiging story of her life in the past, and now her joy being set free to walk a new life. Only those who have walked in her shoes could even begin to understand the pain she has withstood. She is definately a winner in my eyes and heart. This can be shared with so many women of all ages to know that forgiveness leads to healing.

"ORANGE BLOSSOM WISHES" is an interesting and awesome book. Author Carolyn Hennecy tells the inspiring story of the hardships, heartbreaks, and heartaches she has endured throughout her life. This book should be read by anybody who has ever been the victim of abuse and lack of self-esteem because of it, or known somebody who has. At the young and tender age of seven, she was molested by a teenage boy who was a relative! This would happen off and on until she was in her teens. He would tell her that if she goes back home and tells her parents it would be her fault. She was made to feel like a naughty girl when it was not her fault at all. What is a young child supposed to do? In her senior year in high school her boyfriend, whom she was crazy about, broke up with her and joined the navy. She graduated from high school and was married to someone else (was she on the rebound?) less than a year later. She hoped she might be able to lead her new, beer guzzling husband to salvation. But instead of home being where the heart was, home was where the beer was. He turned out to be an abusive, violent, dangerous, domineering alcoholic who just might remind the reader of the character Doyle in the movie "Slingblade." After divorcing the "Doyle" character, she was later married to a man she describes as "Mr. G Q" because he "was very attractive and quite a smooth talker." They were married on Good Friday but. . . there is always a but isn't there? But it was also on April Fools Day. A bad sign perhaps? All seemed to be going fairly well until it turned out that Mr. G Q was also "Mr. Three-Woman Man." Not only was he a bigamist married to another woman at the same time, but he also had a girlfriend on the side! And that is no April Fools joke! There are other stories as well, but space limits me writing about them. However, there is one more that I would like to add. At one point in the book Hennecy is very ill and is in the local hospital of her Florida town. She is visited by a mystery lady who is assumed to be a hospital employee. But this myserious visitor has no name tag on. The lady offers to pray for Hennecy and when Hennecy opens her eyes after the prayer, the mystery lady is gone! Further inquiry reveals the fact that nobody in the hospital saw her or knew who she could have been. Could this mystery lady have been an angel? The overall theme of the book is that even though one experiences a multitude of setbacks, disappointments, abuse, tragedy, sadness, and stress in their life, one can overcome it all and experience a "victorious journey to freedom!" This book tells about the power of God's love, forgiveness, and compassion with out being preachy. Can Hennecy forgive the people who wronged her and betrayed her in past? My wish is for you to read "ORANGE BLOSSOM WISHES" and find out. In her quest to find happiness and help others, this Southern lady should be quite successful. Once you start reading it you cannot put it down. In my first sentence I wrote that this book is interesting and awesome. It is also powerful. I highly recommend it.

This book reaches out to so many people around the globe. The author is telling her story of abuse that must take amazing strenth just to re-live those events to pen such book. It is a must read. Thanks for sharing part of your life Carolyn to help others cope and step out of their despair and learn to hold their head high and be strong.

Carolyn can touch so many people with her heartwarming story of love, in the midst of pain and suffering. Mental anguish, at such a young age, can be so devastating. There are, I am sure, a lot of women that have experienced similar circumstances. I, myself, was an abused wife. Carolyn and I attended school together, and were never really friends, but she showed up in my life at a time that, I feel, was appropriate. I wish her all the luck in the world as she deserves it. I am so impressed with her willingness to share her story, and I know that was the driving force for her book.

This story provides great insight into how a little girl's mind and thought process takes a wrong turn and heads down the path of self destruction. Share the author's miraculous journey in her quest to become a confident, self assured woman and a successful business person. Every woman can draw strength and hope from this amazing story. I read this book in one weekend as I could not put it down! A great read!

After reading this incredible book how can you not feel good about life??? I consider myself very fortunate never having experienced such early personal trauma. However, I am involved with domestic violence and rape in my profession. This book will definitely help me as well as my victims. It is a MUST read!!!

Not just another self help book, yet not just an autobiography. It is obvious that this book was written straight from the heart with divine guidance. Reading this book opened the door for me to discuss difficult women's issues with my teenage grandaughter and passed the book on to her. It is appealing and appropriate reading for for all women, teens to grandmothers.

I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who may be seeking help with healing from a bad experience. I feel that the author has revealed her deep dark experiences in a very tactful way as to not offend anyone. I really liked the fact that she has forgiven her abusers.

I have known the Author a really long time and I have also known her Mother even longer. I enjoyed many of the stories she told. I also was awakened to answers to some of the questions that I have asked myself through abusive times in my life. It was refreshing, yet portions of the book were difficult to read probably because they were all too familiar. Overall, it's a definite recommended read.
