Funny, intresting, and a whole lot of fun.Mix these together with a pair of ears and a tail, and what you get?Hank!I like Drover's raspy voice, the background sounds and the old western music. The two songs are funny, and I love the suspense. For example: When Hank and Drover see the leftovers of a chicken murder Hank jumps at a ''coon'' to fall face down on a suprise. And in the end Hank jumps on another suprise.By the way,the suprises are not the animals Hank thinks they are,but other animals.I won't spoil your fun by telling you which animals they are though.I reccomend this book to dog, western and superhero lovers

I live on a ranch with 2 dogs,1 cat, horses, cows, coyotes, and chickens. This book illustrates perfectly the life of a dog on a ranch! I laughed soo hard about the mix-up of the "coon"! The part with Hank chasing the cat, Pete, is funny. Especially when they run through the corral where some horse traing is taking place. I can sympathize..... totally! This is also a great book for those who want to know more about ranch life. I give this book five stars for humor, originality, and lessons. Take it from an 11 year old in the middle of no-where in Montana! ;)

A great book for all of the family. My son has enjoyed all of the series that he has read so far, and we have bought copies for several of his friends' birthdays. There's even a "Hank" club that my son has joined. This series is a good addition to my kids' book shelves.

Hank is mad cool. Especially when he took on the whole coyote village. He fought Scraubch and whupped em good.I thought Hank would stayn as a cou=yotes. Hank was about about to hit Drover then turned and hit rip and snort by surprise. Boy did i love this book. Hee Hee Ho Ho Ha Ha.

The Original Adventures is exciting and funny too! It is in first person so Hank actually tells the story. He is brave and doesn't run away like his partner Drover. I am looking forward to #2 arriving at my door soon!

This is one book on tape that will stay in the car, not on the shelf. The author's timing and voice range make the tapes even more funny than the books, which are hilarious, anyway. It took me a tape or two to get into the Hank groove, but it was impossible not to when my husband was laughing as much as the kids. I highly recommend Hank, Drover and Company to pass those long vacation drives, for Dad, Mom and Kids!

This is the best book I have ever read. Hank is a great character to read about and I can't wait to read more Hank books. Great for boys and girls.

I would recommend this book because it twisted and turned a lot. You think something will happen a certain way, and then to your surprise something different happens.

We have always had to battle with my 10 year old to get him to read. We purchased books about every subject a 10 year old boy would be interested in but nothing hooked him...until Hank! He loved this book,he did not want to put it down and can't wait to recieve copies of the next issues! Thanks Hank!

I am an adult and STILL love this series! I have every book so far. This particular book "The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog" is one of the best in the series. Hank is an ranch dog who tries his hardest to protect "his ranch" from evil things that go bump in the night (and sometimes the day!). He usually screws up and gets yelled at, so THIS time he decides to....join the wild coyotes. He is accepted but first he must help in a secret plan to invade the ranch that he used to call home. Hank must make a choice....be free with the coyotes or protect the ones he was so loyal to? Very very good series, and it's funny too! All the books even have CD's so you can listen to them while driving in the car or whatever. And for music lovers, there's at least 3-5 songs per book.

This book takes a dog's perspective of life on a ranch in a (I presume west) Texas town. Hank sees himself as the "Head of Ranch Security" and takes care of business as much as a dog can, including attempting to solve crimes on the ranch. This story uses humour to guide children through an animal's perspective of what might otherwise seem like a very mundane life. Sometimes the humour is a little juvenile and doesn't really read as hilarious as an adult as it did when I was a kid (dogs peeing on tires, for example), and occasionally it verges into a predictable stereotype. However, it takes the traditional western genre and makes it palatable for children in a way that most authors have not ever tried, and the bumbling efforts of the characters, mixed with their own brand of street smarts, serves as a nice satire of a much misunderstood subset of Texas culture. I also appreciated that Erickson preserves authentic dialectal lexicalisms but does not write the entire book in a style that presents a corny pronunciation on behalf of any of the characters. Contrary to the perception that southerners are backwards, this book will also introduce some new vocabulary to young readers; I can remember my third grade teacher explaining what gunny sacks and mutton were, among other things, and this is a nice book to share with children or students to guide them in the development of their reading.
