After four months of scouring the internet for all the information I could gather on fly fishing to begin my fly fishing adventure I finally purchased this book and it has become my fly fishing reference staple. The book is laid out well and makes for a good cover to cover read or a thumb through it reference guide. I highly recommend this book for anyone beginning their fly fishing adventure.

This revised guide is a must to anyone who has purchased the Orvis Fly Fishing App. Tom Rosenbauer has been knowledgeable in all phases of fly fishing and brings us simple explanations of a sometimes confusing sport. Fly fishing will offer a degree of relaxation not found in any other outdoor sport.

I was skeptical about buying this. #1 - I'd already purchased the LLBEAN ULTIMATE GUIDE TO FLYFISHING. #2 - I'd already purchased the LLBEAN ULTIMATE GUIDE TO FLYFISHING. But I had several questions after reading that first book. Thank goodness for Orvis. Within the first 30 pages Tom gave me the answers. This book is jammed with details AND advice from Tom (he's world renowned as a knowledgeable angler and effective teacher). I listen to his pod casts (some of which is repeated in these pages). The section on Leaders and Tippets was very detailed which helped a great deal. I half expected Tom to use this as an opportunity to sell Orvis goods but he didn't. The content is presented like a conversation which helps me think about the information rather than a bunch of paragraphs and headings to reference like a dictionary. The latter would be helpful LATER to more experienced anglers, but as a beginner the former works best. It's also a beautiful book, well illustrated and photos are very informative. I no longer reach for the LLBEAN guide. No offense to LLBEAN I still buy some of their products, but for FlyFishing it's Orvis goods and advice all the way. I pick this one up 3-4 times a week.

I first read this book as a beginner to fly fishing. At that time it was one of the most helpful tools, I had. Now about 15 ten year later it¿s still very useful to me. With the first reading, I learned more from this book than any other single reference. Today as I scan the book it helps bring out some of the finer points and allows me to keep them fresh in my mind. Many time I review specific water types (small stream or pocket water) when I know I¿ll be fishing that type of water to help my fishing techniques. The book covers many areas of a trout¿s world and the effect on that world. The different type of water, object in the water, currents, food, weather and much more. The author describes the different type of rises and what they mean. He will describe and dissect the many different type of water and how trout relate to them.
