Overview

A retired school teacher takes the chance of a lifetime to live abroad and become a world traveler. Out of My Comfort Zone chronicles the travels and discoveries of life as a single, 50-something woman traveler whose independence will inspire you to get out and see the world. After prayer and providence motivate Carol to retire from teaching in Colorado, she moves to Berlin for two years of new experiences and the start of lifelong friendships. Her observations on living and teaching in a new culture are shared in a charming and personal tone as a series of emails to a friend back home. Although while abroad she often notices that she is a rarity, an American woman traveling alone, her courage never falters and each experience is here to be shared with you. The list of countries she visits in those two years is too long to list and too surprising to resist. Those who know her hear her voice in every page and you will too.

About the Author

Carol is now enjoying retirement back in the Colorado Rockies, hiking and photographing scenes of the natural beauty there.

A native of West Virginia, she moved to Colorado in 1968. She taught math and technology in Colorado Springs, was married for 22 years and had two daughters. While her children were young, she enjoyed the luxury of being a stay-at-home mom.

When the marriage ended, her daughters were grown, and she retired from teaching, she moved to Germany to teach for two more years.

On her return, she moved near her parents and other family in West Virginia for six years where she became a professional nature photographer; traveling, hiking and photographing that scenic area. Her work was sold in retail stores and craft shows, and is displayed in medical buildings, offices, and homes throughout the state and beyond.

Throughout her life she has loved nature and mountains and has enjoyed camping, backpacking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and traveling through mountains on several continents.
