Outrage (Singular Menace Series #2) by John Sandford, Michele Cook, Tara Sands

John Sandford and Michele Cook follow up their New York Times bestseller, UNCAGED, with the next nail-biting installment in The Singular Menace series. Perfect for fans of The Maze Runner!
Shay Remby and her gang of renegades have struck a blow to the Singular Corporation. When they rescued Shay’s brother, Odin, from a secret Singular lab, they also liberated a girl. Singular has been experimenting on her, trying to implant a U.S. senator’s memories into her brain—with partial success. Fenfang is now a girl who literally knows too much.
Can the knowledge brought by ex-captives Odin and Fenfang help Shay and her friends expose the crimes of this corrupt corporation? Singular has already killed one of Shay’s band to protect their secrets. How many more will die before the truth is exposed?

I would not read the first book if I had known this was a serial. However, I am a finisher and have to wait till July to finish .

A worthy follow-up to Uncaged. Shay and her crew mete out condign punishment to Singular's main protector in the US government, a senator who seemed to me to be based on Diane Feinstein. There is one rather distracting deus-ex-machina gimmick in the series. A member of Singular will grow a conscience and switch sides just when it is most convenient to get Shay et al out of some jam. But that's not nearly enough to spoil what is really a great series. I'm an old geezer, but I like this YA series even better than the Hunger Games. I hope they make these books into films.

This was a fast-paced and compulsively readable. While marketed for YA, I enjoyed it as a mature reader. A few parts were inconsistent and implausible (kids were way too sophisticated for their age) but all in all I was captured by the story and read the first two books in a few days. Good suspense, some likable characters, and a good summation of the greed and avarice of big corporations and big money!

Great story! Shay is a strong female lead. It's hard to believe she is 16 years old. This is a great book for all ages.

I love this series. I wish the new book was coming out sooner.
