I have trouble following her characters at times...there are so many suspects, but the REAL mystery ( which man would Serena finally admit to loving) kept me buying books and turning pages.

Deb’s Dozen: Serena Jones Investigates A Murder-Mystery and Finds Love from Unexpected Quarters Sandra Orchard’s Over Maya Dead Body is a cute, cozy murder-mystery set on Martha’s Vineyard. While on a trip to attend her uncle’s wedding, Serena sees a suspicious man at the airport–her mother chastises her for always being “on the job.” They are greeted by police cars and ambulances when they arrive at her uncle Jack’s. Jack has fallen down a cliff stairway and is dead. That announcement starts Serena, a FBI agent, off to solve a case that has more twists and snags than a cat-tangled ball of yarn. Before she can turn around, her landlord from St. Louis, Nate, and her partner, Tanner, have both turned up to support her. Add in the local police, the state police, missing antiquities, a drug ring, a mother bent on marrying off her daughter, an aunt who seems way too connected, and you have the makings of great, entertaining read. As Over Maya Dead Body is the third book in the Serena Jones series, Orchard wraps up a lot of loose ends. She manages to accomplish this without a lot of backstory, which I appreciated. You’ll immediately be drawn to Serena and Nate and Tanner and Aunt Martha and to care for them. The personalities are quirky and different, but totally delightful. I so enjoyed reading the story that I couldn’t put the book down and finished the novel in one sitting. Four stars! Sandra Orchard is an award-winning author of several series, including the Port Aster Secrets and Serena Jones series. She lives in Ontario, Canada. Revell gave me a copy of Over Maya Dead Body, but I was in no way obligated to write a review.

Looking forward to future books in the series

Sometimes when an author does a series with the same characters the third book is a little weak. Not so with this book, where the author keeps up the suspence with an intricate plot. I enjoyed this book.

". . . a little mystery makes it more fun!" (12) And yes it does, especially when we're talking about A Serena Jones Mystery by Sandra Orchard. With the latest and sadly (possibly) last installment, Over Maya Dead Body, we finally see Serena get some well needed R & R, but of course, "Crime doesn't take a vacation" (backcover), and our main agent as well. I've taken to this series from the get go with it's quirky characters and just as eccentric mystery sequences that just had be eye-rolling one minute, and chuckling the next. In Over Maya Dead Body, the mystery itself is just as intriguing as the romantic triangle that's been happening since the first book, and I'm happy to tell you that it's finally resolved and fitting at that as well. Those last pages basically stuck a smiley face on me until long after I finished the book. Perfect closure that have given us a message as well as romance. Even if there seems to be an open end, I think it paved way for our minds and hearts to accept possibilities. And that my friends, makes a great conclusion. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.

SANDRA ORCHARD returns with a final installment in her Serena Jones mystery series, and this is the book her fans have been waiting for! In Over Maya Dead Body, FBI Special Agent Serena Jones is on Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate the engagement of a family friend. Almost immediately she is embroiled in a murder investigation involving smuggling antiquities. In the meantime, her two beaus – Nate Butler and Tanner Calhoun – arrive to support her, keep an eye on her, and win her heart. Who will she end up with? Will she uncover more the truth before someone else is harmed? Orchard likes to keep the reader guessing, both in terms of who Serena will end up with and who is at the crux of the murder and smuggling. This is a mystery romance with plenty of twists – a delightful twist was asking her readers (after the second book) to vote on which suitor would win Serena’s heart! Orchard uses a light touch in depicting the FBI, and does an excellent job in her character development. Serena is not looking for romance, even though she has not one, but two eligible bachelors: Nate (her building superintendent who is a kindred spirit), and Tanner (her mentor and former FBI partner). This is a mystery series with a very light romance and humor on the side. The faith element is light, but the series is a good, clean one with red herrings and suspects to delight any mystery lover.

FBI Special Agent Serena Jones is finally getting a well-deserved vacation on Martha’s Vineyard to attend a family engagement celebration. However, it soon turns deadly when a body is found too close to home. Serena quickly becomes involved in the investigation. Things get even more interesting when the two men vying for her attention show up and become entangled in the mess as well. Just who is being targeted? Serena’s feelings are torn between the two men. Just who will she pick in the end and is her life in danger the closer she gets to solving the case? Sandra Orchard has done it again with this cat and mouse cozy mystery. Over Maya Dead Body captures you from the beginning and holds you till the very end. This whodunit will keep you guessing like it did me. Just when you think you have it figured out, things take a different turn. Love that! Once again the characters came alive for me. I especially love Aunt Martha and Harold the cat. He even got to come on the vacation. Love it! Each character is well-rounded and jumps off the page to the reader. Well done. Vivid imagery throughout helps the reader picture everything on Martha’s Vineyard. It was clear the author did their homework when writing this novel. I won’t spoil the ending on whether or not Serena went with Team Nate or Team Tanner, but the author keeps you guessing right till the very end. Both were great choices, but one had to win, right?! The plot was well written and kept you turning the pages. Just when you thought it was going one way, the author surprised you by changing direction. I’m sad to see this series end as it’s been a fun ride! I give Over Maya Dead Body five sea shells. It’s one vacation you’ll want to take. *I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

OVER MAYA DEAD BODY was just as fun and quirky as I thought it would be. Serena is an FBI agent who seems to about as clueless as they come, especially about the love stuff. I started to try to figure out who-dun-it, made my initial guesses, and then got caught up in the story and forgot to try and make my final guesses. I was admittedly more interested in who would win Serena's heart. Nate, the good ole boy who manages her apartment and has oh, so many secrets, or Tanner, her FBI co-worker who trained her for her job. And while the romance was hot, the mystery was just as intriguing, but not terribly scary. In themes with the other books, this is an art mystery, this time with smuggled artifacts and people are turning up dead. I am pleased to say my initial guesses as to who-dun-it were spot on despite the numerous red herrings planted in the story. The faith message is rather weak, but slightly present. There was one untied string which may or may not mean another book in the series--since it was alluded as to who the killer might be. I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of OVER MAYA DEAD BODY. All opinions are my own.

This is such a fun series. I love this type of mystery. I love Serena but I do hope she figures out which guy is right for her. Some people just have a hard time taking a vacation. Serena must solve a case while on vacation because it is her fathers best friend. I love all the characters in this story. I especially like Serena, Aunt Martha and Nate. I received this book from Revell and the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Over Maya Dead Body is the third, and final, installment in the Serena Jones Mystery series. Serena is an FBI agent supposedly on vacation on Martha's Vineyard, but when she and her family arrive, they find that their host and old family friend is dead. The police say it was an accident but Serena, with a nose for trouble, thinks it is more than that. Join Serena on Martha's Vineyard as she investigates the death of Jack; as the "plot thickens", more people die and someone is after Serena. With her investigative specialty in arts and antiquities, Serena works to solve the mystery before anyone else dies. Two men are interested in pursuing a relationship with Serena and both arrive on the island, both distracting her from and supporting her in the investigation. Which will she choose: Nate or Tanner? One is her neighbor and one, her neighbor; both men have been in her life for the last 3 troubling investigations. It is time for her to decide...

Over Maya Dead Body by Sandra Orchard was a slight twist from the previous two books in the series. For one thing, it was something along the lines of a murder mystery along with the art caper. The other big difference was that Serena was on vacation and her time wasn’t split between her ‘shift husband’ and her ‘house husband’ as her mother called it, but was free game to the knights-in-shining-armor who rushed to her aid. Lots of people complain about love triangles, but if they’re done right, they can be very interesting. As in emotional roller coasters as you hope against hope that the heroine will choose the one you’re shipping for. And Sandra Orchard definitely did a good job of showing that in this book! Love triangle aside, the book also did a great job revealing a mystery like her previous two books, and the characters were quirky as ever. Another plus was that it was in no way preachy- but also didn’t leave out a slight spiritual thread. Though the book might have been a bit abrupt near the end wrapping up, it was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to more Serena Jones mysteries. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Revell. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions are my own.

4.5 stars Great Book, But Series Ends Abruptly... Heading out for a wedding of a family friend, Serena Jones and her family discover the friend dead. Believing foul play in action, Serena races to catch a possible antiquities smuggler/murderer before he/her silences Serena and others. There is much to like in this 3rd Serena Jones installment. First, though, let me say it is important to read the books in order to get the full effect. The love triangle between Nate, Serena, and Tanner continues and takes some surprising turns. Orchard employed an unusual tactic in this series. She allowed readers to vote which beau Serena should eventually end up with...and had to change her own story to make that happen!(This is why the novel did not receive 5 stars from me- it did not seem as balanced between rivals as usual.) What an exhausting vacation Serena has! She deals with death and pursuing possible murderers. She fends off her matchmaking mother and aunt. Both Tanner and Nate come to help, yet entangle her confused heart. Plus Aunt Martha brings extra excitement, duplicity, and her own love triangle. Great book, yet I felt like the series was shut down abruptly. Sad it could only be three books. So much more action could happen.

Just finished the third book in this series, and it sure didn’t disappoint, and can be read by its self, but you don’t want to miss the other two! Of course, bodies seem to follow our FBI agent Serena around, and going to Martha’s Vineyard is not exception for her, and this is sad for her family at the same time. You will be changing your mind as to who is involved from page to page, and just when you think you know for sure, guess what! There is a lot of action too, firebombs, break line cuts, gunshots, etc., better duck. Our girl ends up with both of the guys who have their eye on her, they come to be of help, but will she ever choose just one? They actually both sound perfect! Of course, darling Aunt Martha is here, and who does she not know? She is one amazing woman, and we are about to learn more about her, and she seems to have access to all kinds of help. I adored the epilogue at the end of the book, and maybe there will be another novel in the offing, we can hope! I received this book through Revell Publishing Book Bloggers Program, and was not required to give a positive review.

Sandra Orchard’s “Over Maya Dead Body” is another fun whodunnit featuring FBI Art Crime Agent Serena Jones. When Serena and her family travel to Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate family friend Jack Hill’s engagement, they find a shocking discovery — Jack is dead. Police rule his death an accident, but when Serena learns Jack had contacted the FBI about a potential antiquities smuggling ring on the island, she immediately becomes suspicious. And when more and more strange and dangerous happenings occur — a missing friend and a hit and run accident, just to name a few — she knows she must look into Jack’s death and the alleged smuggling ring. With the help of spunky Aunt Martha, her FBI partner Tanner and friend and apartment supervisor Nate, Serena and gang dive deeply into a tale of illegal activity, jealousy, betrayal and greed. They must sort through the clue, determine whom they can truly trust, and solve the case. “Over Maya Dead Body” is full of great characters — Serena who is an incredible female lead; Tanner and Nate, who can both make a girl swoon; Aunt Martha, a plucky character we all aspire to be like; parents with the names of Ward and June; the is-he-or-isn’t-he-a-mobster Carmen; and the new and mysterious Winston. And in Orchard’s latest novel, besides learning some shocking revelations about her loved ones, Serena just might finally decide which man she will giver her heart to — will it be Nate or Tanner? This book has some mild religious theming — characters must put aside their pasts and relearn to rely on God and his help and protection. It also reminds us that God doesn’t change, just our circumstances change. Overall this is a great story, full of romance and mystery. I will say I feel the ending was a tad rushed, and therefore a bit hard to follow as to the true “whodunnit” and their reasonings for the multiple situations going on. And for that reason I give it: Four and a half stars out of five. Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, provided this complimentary copy for my honest, unbiased review.

Serena and her family are on vacation on Martha's Vineyard to celebrate the engagement of a family friend. When there's a suspicious death and then rumblings of an antiquities smuggling ring, Serena can't help but get involved. With the help of her two potential love interests, Nate and Tanner, and even Aunt Martha, they set out to solve this puzzling mystery. There were quite a few unexpected twist, turns, and reveals. It had a great mystery that left me guessing until the end. The author did a fantastic job at pointing just enough plausible suspicion on characters that it left me wondering who the guilty party really was. Over Maya Dead Body had a slightly different feel to it than the first two books in the series, probably because of the change in location, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment one bit. I loved every second of it and think it was the best one of the series. The fun family dynamics were still there and Aunt Martha was still being her lively and 'helpful' self. Many loose ends were tied up and, as promised, the love triangle was resolved. That's all I'll say about that because I don't want to spoil it. The Serena Jones Mysteries have been such fun books and I'm sad to see it end. I'm certainly gonna miss all these fantastic characters, especially Aunt Martha. Over Maya Dead Body was a wonderful conclusion to a marvelous series. I'm looking forward to reading whatever Ms. Orchard comes up with next. I highly recommend this series! I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my own honest opinion.

Ever looking for a book that will keep you guessing, and do so with a bit of humor? Over Maya Dead Body is just that kind of book...and I love that it wraps up the question of which romance Serena will choose. Serena's latest mystery is told in the perfect first person voice. There's humor, emotion, and just enough lack of self-awareness to keep her truly lovable as a heroine. She's overwhelmed trying to solve a murder that is personal and the hits keep coming. Add in two hunky friends who both want to more and a gal who's not sure she trusts herself to read either guy right, and it's a sweet romance. This book has it all. A great twisting mystery, building promise of romance, and sweet time with characters I've come to love in the series.

FBI Special Agent Serena Jones is quite an interesting character who seems to frequently get in over her head only to come out on top. Although this book is a complete story on its own, I suggest you read the first two books in the series in order to get acquainted with her family and other significant people in her life. You will also get a better feel of how she came to be a member of the FBI Art Crime Team. This story opens with Serena, her parents, and her Aunt Martha arriving on Martha’s Vineyard for a special engagement party for her “Uncle” Jack. As an FBI agent, Serena cannot leave her work at home because wherever she is, much of what she sees raises her suspicions that something illegal is going on. The excitement begins as soon as they depart the plane at the airport and she sees someone with a package that she thinks may be an antiquity brought into the country illegally. The story is filled with missing people, mysterious incidents, unanswered questions, some romance, a dash of humor, and a bit of faith. Another favorite character for me is Serena’s Aunt Martha. Simply watching murder mysteries on TV is not adequately challenging for her. She loves to stick her nose into any case that Serena is working. She actually proves to be rather resourceful and helpful at times even if she is in her seventies. If you enjoy mysteries, I believe you will enjoy this book. I received a copy from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

What cozy mystery would be without its eccentric, little old lady, amateur sleuth? The Serena Jones mystery series has its in the form of Aunt Martha, Serena’s aunt. While Serena is an FBI special agent in the art crimes division, her aunt becomes actively involved in all of her cases. Not only is she involved in solving crime, she is actively involved as Serena’s matchmaker as well. In this third installment of the Serena Jones series, Serena is once again torn between putting aside romantic ideas and her interest in both her partner, Tanner, and her apartment superintendent, Nate, who has many and varied talents. I must admit to mentally yelling at her about halfway through this book, “Just choose already!” Serena had thought that a short vacation at Martha’s Vineyard with her aunt and parents would be a relaxing time away. When no one showed up to pick them up from the Ferry’s dock, the family took a taxi to the home of Serena’s father’s best friend whose engagement party they had come to attend only to find that he had died in a suspicious fall. Was it an accident? Was it related to a call he had placed to the FBI over antiquities smuggling, or was it related to the changes he was making to his will? Serena dove into solving the mystery as a way of dealing with her grief. Through unexpected circumstances, both Tanner and Nate ended up joining Serena and her investigation, both vying for her attention when she most needed to focus on the case at hand, and then there is always the “helpful” Aunt Martha. If you are looking for a lighthearted summer read, you have found your book! Over Maya Dead Body is a great travel read. I finished it at home in two days. I thank NetGalley and Revell Publishing for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I received no monetary compensation.
