Two loners fighting to stay alive discover they must now save the galaxy.

The only vaccine for a deadly galaxy-wide pandemic is missing ... and the only ones who may be able to find it are a powerful talent on the verge of a meltdown, and a security specialist hiding her extraordinary skills in a menial job.

Brilliant investigator Luka Foxe must act fast if he's going to save the civilized planets of the Central Galactic Concordance. For as a pandemic sweeps across the galaxy, someone is stealing the vaccine. To make matters worse, Luka's hidden mental talents are out of control, leaving him barely able to function in the midst of violence and a rising body count.

The convoluted trail leads to a corrupt pharma industry and the possibility of an illegal, planet-sized laboratory. In the face of increasing threats, he must rely on an enigmatic, lethal woman who has secrets of her own.

Mairwen Morganthur hides extraordinary skills under the guise of a dull night-shift guard. The last thing she wants is to provide personal security for a nova-hot investigator, or to be plunged into a murky case involving sabotage, treachery, and the military covert operations division that would love to discover she's still alive. Worse, she knows that two more deaths won't bother their enemies one bit. Their only hope for survival is to share their darkest secrets.

With everything in their universe at stake, can they learn to trust one another?

"Overload Flux is a brilliant, suspenseful tale that will keep readers captivated from beginning to end." ~ S.E. Smith, New York Times & USA TODAY Bestselling Author of The Alliance series.

Great storytelling! Interesting, compelling, and believable characters (love her work). Enjoyed read even second time around! While I have never been a huge SF fan, I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Van Natta's book. It had all of the suspense and action I have come to expect of an action novel with enough inner/intra-space and gadgets to make it other-worldly. I am a reader of books: All kinds of books. I have read this story again and even knowing where it was headed was swept back into the story and the emotions of the characters. I am actually looking forward to further development of the series and characters and will be among the first few to purchase the next installment.

"Overload Flux" is a great start to a new series. Carol Van Natta has created a universe that is interesting and complex. The book's two main characters, Mairwen Morganthur and Luka Foxe, grab your interest right away and grow individually throughout the book. Each has flaws and secrets, but they learn to their surprise that they complete each other. The romance that blossoms between them is not contrived and forced, but flows naturally as part of the story. And lest you think that this story is all hearts and flowers, the action in the book keeps the pages turning too fast (at least for me). The technology in the book doesn't overwhelm the story, but adds to the atmosphere and realism - this is a future that could happen and "Overload Flux" presents both the good and the bad of it. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good, fulfilling read.

"Overload Flux" is a great read! (Disclaimer: I know Carol Van Natta, and co-authored a humorous futuristic story with her 15 years ago, but this is a full-fledged science fiction novel.) A one-sentence description of it might be, "In a world of encroaching controls, two brilliant-but-damaged geeks fall in love and find redemption while working together through a plot with lots of rousing action." Rationally constructed and well written, it's a riveting adventure that also encompasses a satisfying romance, set in a complex future universe of galactic expansion (trending toward the dystopian but still recognizably human). It should please both science fiction and romance fans, and leaves the door open for future novels in the same universe.

I really enjoyed Overload Flux. This book had the perfect balance between story, sci-fi elements and romance. The story read a bit like a romantic suspense in space at times, with a mystery like set-up with how they're trying to uncover more about what's going on after two colleagues of Luka are found dead. The only niggle I had was that it could be a bit hard to remember all the details about what was going on at times. I really liked both main characters with how they had their flaws, strengths and struggles, they felt like realistic characters. I loved seeing them change throughout the book and grow closer. The romance was so well done, I loved these two together and how well they worked and fit together. I liked how the romance plot line nicely wove throughout the story and I loved seeing them grow closer and closer as the book progressed. All in all this was a fantastic start to this series and I am excited to read book 2.

This was my first book by this author and it was highly interesting and exciting. You are thrown right into the action and start figuring out the "world" as you go along. The main characters were fleshed out and the romance was nicely incorporated so as to just be a part of the character's journey. Good twists and turns throughout the book. I plan to read more by this author.

Heart-pounding What a great story to start off a new series. Van Natta has a knack for writing sci-fi, mixed with suspense and romance. A great trio for a promising story. The writing tells a great intergalactic story and gives great depth to each character, who have a great chemistry with each other. This story makes you look forward to future stories with the same great characters.

Forensic investigator Luka Foxe is working to unravel the ongoing thefts of a critically needed vaccine for a pandemic affecting the entire galaxy. Unfortunately, he's contending with an out-of-control mental ability that he'd rather keep hidden than make known, as well as a rising body count, and not just from the sweeping pandemic. Mairwen Morganthur hides her own host of life-endangering secrets beneath the guise of a barely literate or intelligent night-shift security guard. When she's roped into Luka's investigation, her secrets are jeopardized and her past threatens to overwhelm any chance of normalcy in the present or hope for the future. Together, they face a web of corruption, greed, and betrayal that takes them to the outer limits of the galaxy and their ability to trust anyone, let alone admit to one another their growing mutual attraction. It's a tremendous pleasure to introduce to my readership OVERLOAD FLUX, the first novel in science fiction author and playwright Carol Van Natta's Central Galactic Concordance series. I'll begin with a disclosure: I'm not generally a fan of the science fiction genre. I find much of it to be too technical for me, or filled with long, dull descriptions of settings. Let me assure my readers, however, and with absolute certainty, that it's been a very, very long time since I've read such a compelling, unexpected, suspenseful, and well-crafted work of science fiction as OVERLOAD FLUX. This spectacular novel delivers not only a unique and fantastical futuristic universe, down to the very last and most minute detail, but also a thriller of a story line that propels the reader through page after page of rising action, danger, intrigue, and even romance to a conclusion so mentally and emotionally satisfying that I immediately wished that the work was longer just so I could keep reading. I never once felt bored, lectured, or confused. Enveloped into the world that Van Natta has very capably devised, readers will find highly believable characters, easily related to despite their extensive psychological abilities and experience with spacecraft, warfare, and interplanetary relations. Mairwen, in particular, most fascinated me. She's a mass of juxtapositions, from masterfully adept and even lethal in the tensest situations to thoroughly out of her element when it comes to human interactions or relationships. Think, in some ways, a sci-fi version of Lisbeth Salander. Meanwhile, Luka is equally complex, at times vulnerable and desperate, and at others every inch the trustworthy leader he's more than capable of being. When the chips are down, as the saying goes, someone with Luka's foresight and stability makes for a very reassuring hero for whom to cheer. I can't say enough good about this intricately woven novel. If I might have said anything else to convince my readers of its surpassing excellence and worthiness to be read, I hope they will consider it said and not hesitate to obtain a copy. Then, check out the second in the series, which I have no doubt will also exceed every expectation. # # # Author: Carol Van Natta Title: OVERLOAD FLUX Series: Central Galactic Concordance (#1) ASIN: B00OHNCCYI Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this work from the author in exchange for an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. 4.5 stars You know when you're staring into the refrigerator, searching for a snack that you can't quite name, just hoping that it will suddenly appear and satisfy your vague craving? It's got to be something salty, sweet, and savory...maybe even a little umami thrown in there. But you won't know it until you see it. Apparently I was craving this book. Overload Flux had a little bit of everything in it -mystery, sci-fi, romance, even a bit of sly humor. And it was exactly what I was in the mood for, without me even knowing it. Kick-ass heroine with awesome abilities and a vulnerable streak? Check. Compelling plot with unexpected twists and turns? Check. Hot alpha hero with a soft spot and an interesting power? Check. Sizzling romance with a satisfying conclusion? Double check. There's a little bit of everything for everyone in this book, but the author handles it well, never putting in too many subplots or allowing secondary characters to become more important than the core story. And while the epilogue sets up the sequel, there is no aggravating cliffhanger, and the story arc from this book is resolved satisfactorily. I loved Mairwen - she was so strong and capable, so much so that the hero actually became dependent on her (although not in a wimpy way) - but she never entered into any TSTL moments, which was a refreshing change. I liked the fact that Luka recognized how valuable Mairwen was and didn't try to fight against the attraction or devalue her in any way. And while their romance was a major thread in the book, it didn't overwhelm the story or sacrifice the plot in any way. So, this was definitely a surprisingly yummy read, just what I was in the mood for. There's something for everyone's tastes here, so quit looking in the "refrigerator" and pick up this book!

Great character development. Believable Sci-fi. Action! If you're looking for a sci-fi book that has action, mystery, strange technologies, and even a bit of romance, Flux Overload has it. I thoroughly enjoyed this romp as it took me from world to world, getting to know the main characters Foxe and Morganthur, and unravelling a mystery. Well written, with an excellent pace.  I get bored easily with trite story writing, and was kept engaged and excited for the next turn of page.
