Despite old wounds, Laura agrees to help Joe find out who's framing him. And while they expect to be met with danger, they're unprepared for passion that still burns strong, and their determination to give what was between them a second chance.

The Playboy Matured Laura gave her heart once, only to have it shattered. She’s not going to give it to Joe again. He made it plain he carries the attitudes of the rich, semi-celebrity he was raised. Ignore the fact that his natural charm is now channeled into hostage negotiation. Even while working for the elite Omega team, Joe feels as much observer as member. When the local police suspect him of murdering his ex-girlfriends, he needs a lawyer. He calls Laura because she’s one of the few people he trusts. Suspense and danger stalk Joe as he and Laura collect clues to the real killer. Events open his eyes to his value as a team member. The attraction between Joe and Laura is real, but will it withstand the final test?

Overwhelming Force is a romantic suspense in the Harlequin Intrigue line. The story is full of action and an interesting storyline of someone killing Joe’s ex’es. Joe is a very skilled hostage negotiator. One of his events brings him in contact with Laura, one of his ex-girlfriends that he never got over. Honestly I had a hard time liking Joe. He treated her badly when he broke up with her and I just couldn’t see how she was going to trust him in the future. He was too charming and could manipulate people which makes him a great hostage negotiator. I also didnt like that he didn't feel part of the team. I prefer the camaraderie of knowing your team has your back. The book has great action and a good storyline though. It is part of the Omega Sector: Critical Response series and I plan to read more of them. I also loved the book cover. I may have selected the book on the book cover alone. Sexual content: a couple scenes Violence: someone is killing Joe's ex girlfriends and there are several of them I received this book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect . I had not read ay of the previous books of the series and was concerned I would get confused with the secondary characters and the storyline. I am so very glad I gave it a chance, and Ms Crouch gives us a short description of the cast of characters at the beginning of the book. Excellent idea. The story centers around Joe Matarazzo and Laura Birchwood. Joe is a hostage negotiator with Omega Sector. He is also a very wealthy man and had a past with Laura. Laura, a lawyer, was Joe’s girlfriend 6 years ago. He dumped her because of the media’s pressure and his own insecurities. Neither has fully recovered, one because of regrets, and the other one because their self esteem was destroyed. They are thrown together when Joe’s ex-girlfriends are being murdered and he needs a lawyer. But the story goes a little deeper than that. It reminds us that we should not allow external forces to influence our choices , that what we say can not only be hurtful, but can destroy the individual, that trust has to be earned , that we should learn to forgive and give others second chances and that love does conquer all. I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I rate this book as a I LOVE IT!! I have now read every book Janie Crouch has written! What an awesome writer. I am so impressed with her books. I just finished this one and I have to say Janie is just getting better and better! In this book the 5th in the series Janie has reached new heights in her suspense and thrills!! I just could not put this book down. Not only did I enjoy this book but I kept informing my family what was happening as I was reading, guessing what's next, laughing, and racing to the end of this exciting story. I think I read this one in record time. All of the books in this series have just been amazing! They can all be read individually or together but what I really like is that in the front of the book there was a cheat sheet with the characters from previous books so I could be refreshed as to the fun quirks of the past books. In this book we meet Laura, the former girlfriend of Joe Matarazzo, who is well known for his "love them and leave them ways". I loved this story and the use of former characters in this book. It's so fun to have the characters come back and play a part in new stories. Way to go Janie you have scored a home run with this book!!

With the lethal culprit chasing Joe's previous girlfriends, rekindling attempts with Laura, the one Joe Matarazzo still carried in his heart, could not have had the worse timing. With distressing murders occurring, and Joe seeming like the offender, it is just logical he is suspended from the Omega Sector, only setting him off on a quest of his own with no backup to protect him. The story takes off with an enthralling action, filled with grim conflicts both mental and physical. Joe has to face his feelings of not belonging and not being part of the team. His reluctance of trusting and opening up are hindering the investigation, putting him and Laura even direr plight. The billionaire playboy heroes not being my favorite type of characters, Joe Matarazzo had a lot of work ahead of him to win me over, especially when taking into consideration how he treated Laura in the past. The issues of judging others by appearances, and tearing apart in the media when not filling the expectations, and surrendering to these opinions are hurtful and can make damage in anyone's mind. Laura's heart was more forgiving than mine, I felt his reason for the past break up were never rightly justified. But the fire between them was burning like it never was blown away. Joe obviously had done some maturing and was willing to do the work to win not only Laura's heart again, but her trust as well. With the more intimate type of crimes to be solved than national crises the Omega Sector works behind the scenes vigorously trying to clear Joe's name and keep Laura alive, yet there's still much more dangerous and deadly situations to be dealt with, mortal malice to be faced. When the case takes off, and the action starts, the tension builds up, the dread becomes real and the story enticing, then the book was hard put down and the interest to find out will they survive the savage, held until the end. With charming, sharp, and smart characters fighting for the world of justice alluring the reader into the vicious world of senseless crimes, committed by disturbingly obsessed minds, and holding there with the hair-raising and heart-stopping battles for life or death, the author gives one wildly entertaining, terror filled thrill ride when not enamoring with desirous romance ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

4 1/2 STARS! With the continuation of her exciting Omega Sector: Critical Response series, Janie Crouch takes us into the mind of a psychopath who is weaving a plot of revenge against one of the Omega teammates. We're taken along for the ride as the drama builds and lives become more endangered as several familiar faces step up to help clear the name of one of their own. Sexy playboy Joe Matarazzo might have given up his carefree life to becoming one of Omega's top hostage negotiators a few years ago, but he didn't do it without leaving a past behind him. He's never forgotten "the one that got away" due to his own youthful mistakes, so when happenstance puts her back in his sights again, he's happy to capitalize on it! Attorney Laura Birchwood would have been happy to never see Joe's face again, but his quick thinking helps her out of a jam, so when he finds himself needing legal counsel, she decides it's only right to return the favor. It turns out Joe is haunted by a failed case from a year ago, and he's not the only one that has it on their mind. When a stalker sets out to victimize some of Joe's exes and makes sure he's set up to take the fall, the team races against the clock to figure out who is doing it and why!

Joe Matarazzo is considered a top hostage negotiator, but it is his failures that haunt him. One year ago, three innocents died and Joe is not the only one who cannot forget that. When his exes are targeted by a violent murderer, Joe finds himself a suspect. He turns to Laura Birchwood for help. Laura is one ex he never forgot and he hopes that despite the pain he caused her, she will help him. They were not prepared for the passion they both still felt. Joe was an amazing hero. Rich and often in the gossip columns, Joe tried to keep his distance and never engage his emotions. He was never sure if people wanted him or his money. Good thing for Joe that he did have some true friends. When he needed them, they came through for him and for Laura. Laura was truly the only woman he loved. Now if only he can fix that. Laura was deeply hurt when Joe broke off their relationship, but for some reason she could not tell him no when he needs help. Overwhelming Force is incredible. There is action that never stops and two main characters that are realistic and loveable as well as enough danger and suspense to keep us on our toes. Joe and Laura will work their way into your heart and you are amazed and delighted to be counted among one of his friends as you route for a happy ending. This is one book that will keep you reading until the last word. And then leave you wanting more of this amazing couple and their fantastic story. It was one of my all time favorites.
