Overview

The Oxford Illustrated History of Prehistoric Europe / Edition 1

A Roman fort was established in the 2nd century AD at Cramond on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, part of the northern defences of Roman Britain. Cramond was an important outpost at the eastern end of the Antonine Wall and continued to be significant during the reign of Septimius Severus. This report outlines the results of excavations carried out between 1975 and 1981 which established the location and nature of the defences and revealed a well-preserved military bath house and 3rd-century industrial complex. Includes specialist reports on the pottery, glass, coins, metalwork, textiles, stone objects, tile and brick, bone and antler, leather, wood and other environmental remains. English text; summaries in Spanish, French and German.
