About the Author

Michele Voss is the parent of three grown children, and a retired teacher with over 35 years of teaching experience in second through fifth grades. She holds a BA and MA in Psychology and education. As with her first book, Molly, The Dancing Meerkat, this book’s main character also learns a valuable lesson, that of courage and determination. Mrs. Voss lives in San Diego, California with her husband, three cats and a very spoiled dog.

CHAPTER 1

Ozzie the otter peeked quietly around a tree, He was watching his friends, but he didn't let them see.

They were slipping and sliding down the steepest slope, He couldn't get up the nerve, he felt like a dope.

At first, his friends tried to coax him to the top, But try as he may, something always made him stop.

He wasn't like the others, he just wasn't that brave, Sometimes he felt like crawling into a cave!

After a while his friends stopped asking him to play. He was afraid to do what they did, what could he say?

So Ozzie watched hidden behind a nearby tree, Wondering why he couldn't be like them, so free!

They were braver than he was, that's for sure, He preferred to think he was just more mature.

Slipping and sliding into the bubbling river, The three wrestled and chased, it made poor Ozzie shiver.
