Pabellon de mujeres (Pavilion of Women) by Pearl S. Buck

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION From the author of The Good Earth, an “Oprah’s Book Club Selection.” On her fortieth birthday, Madame Wu tells her husband that after twenty-four years their physical life together is now over and she wishes him to take a second wife, and thus arranges for a young country girl to come take her place in bed. The House of Wu, one of the oldest and most revered in China, is thrown into an uproar by her decision, which changes the life of all that surround her. On the fringes of WWII the family is at crossroads, facing betrayal, communism and Western thought, and underlying all, the quest for spiritual freedom.
