As a teacher, I am always on the lookout for books that have concepts that encourage positive attitudes and a variety of vocabulary words. However, as a grandmother of five, I honestly bought this to use first with my grandchildren. The illustrations are interesting, colorful and draw kids into the story. They also reflect a diverse multicultural theme that is friendly and accepting. The book features the mascots of all of the PAC-12 football teams representing some of the most prestigious universities in the country. The author cleverly uses alphabet letters to teach young readers positive values in a novel and heartwarming way. She introduces the book with a beautiful quote by Pat Tillman: "Passion is what makes life interesting, what ignites our soul, fuels our love, and carries our friendships, stimulates our intellect, and pushes our limits." This quote is the underpinning theme throughout the rest of the book. The author also includes an engaging checklist of questions to discuss with children, as well as a game to match mascots with their schools. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages.
I was surprised to see the quality of this book that my wife bought for our grandchildren. The book is beautifully bound and the art is so well done that I felt like I was holding a collectible. The concept is great for any kids whose family members are into sports. The book uses the alphabet to teach virtues and positive words for kids to associate with sports (Brave, Enthusiastic, Cooperative, Unselfish, Zealous, and so on) Each of the PAK-12 mascots takes turns offering different concepts. The artwork is incredible; very professionally done; and as a special treat, each of the people who portray the mascots for these professional teams have signed their pictures. The book is delightful and exciting for those who enjoy sports. I highly recommend this book for families with children that share these interests.
