About the Author

Robb Wolf possesses the unique perspective of both scientist and personal trainer at NorCal Strength & Conditioning. Robb is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USAW Olympic Weightlifting coach and a certified CrossFit Coach. Robb worked as a research biochemist for 5 years, and did Paleolithic Diet research with Prof. Loren Cordain of Colorado State University and author of the book The Paleo Diet. I was lucky enough to attend Robb's Paleolithic Solution Seminar in Atlanta on 9/11/10 and I received a copy of this book at the end of the seminar, before it was released to the general public. I wanted to read it cover to cover before adding my review. It was an excellent read and full of knowledge and advice that will truly change your life if you have an open mind and are willing to try it out for yourself. I am not a science geek and I don't like reading through too many minute details of science, but I didn't have a problem getting through this book. He explains the science to just enough detail for one to understand it without getting overwhelmed. He also uses plenty of analogies and humor to make the concepts stick once you read about them. There is a TON of information in this book and I will be keeping it handy to use as a reference as my understanding of the Paleo lifestyle increases. I can say that I have experimented with Robb's advice over the last 9 months and it has made a tremendous difference in not only my life, but in my body composition. I easily lost over 25 lbs and decreased 3 to 4 pant sizes in the process and I am stronger now and have more energy than ever before. People have actually told me that I look like a completely different person than I did a year ago. The transformation is truly incredible. The bottom line - this stuff works, folks! This book explains how you can get those same results and experience life in a whole new way. The best thing you can do for yourself is to have an open mind when reading this book. It challenges everything we've been told by the traditional medical community and even our own government. Keep an open mind, try it for yourself and you'll see the results. For many, implementing these changes will ultimately result in a total lifestyle change. This may take time and some adaptation, but the benefits are worth it. Believe it or not, you will get over not having bread and pasta - the cravings disappear soon after you begin implementing Robb's advice. Robb is the real deal, folks. He is not looking to get rich quick by selling you some silly supplement or magic potion. This is truly his passion and he is doing everything he can to spread the knowledge he's gained while trying to live an ultimately healthy life. He not only gives this advice, but he lives his life according to what he preaches. How many other authors of "diet" books can say the same thing? Robb also answers many of the traditional questions that come up when people first hear of this way of life like "What about Fiber?", "Aren't whole grains healthy?" and "This is too hard". He responds to these questions, doubts and whining with tough love, truthful advice. He doesn't sugar coat anything and deals with these doubts by first backing it up with the science to support his case and finally by asking readers to try it for 30 days and see if they look, feel and perform better. He also addresses some realistic situations in the book - for example, the question of drinking alcohol. Instead of ignoring the subject or saying "you should never drink alcohol", he gives you realistic advice on how to have a drink or two without completely falling off the wagon. It's tidbits like this - along with Robb's humor, and tough love personality that make this book not only worth reading, but enjoyable to read.

Informative, Interesting, & Compelling These are three words you don't often associate with a nutrition book. Somehow Robb Wolf has managed to combine these characteristics in his new book The Paleo Solution. The information in this book is vast. If you think you are getting a book that only covers nutrition, think again. Wolf packs anthropology (pre & post agricultural revolution), nutrition, digestion, meal plans, exercise, supplements and more into a little over 300 pages. Amazing! If that was not enough, he provides enough academic references to keep a phd busy for years (literally). The information is staggering, but to be honest, that isn't what I find most impressive. What really struck me is that he manages to make this information interesting. Let's be honest, "nutrition book" and "page turner" usually don't go together. Well, this is as close as it gets folks! The Paleo Solution content is delivered in an entertaining and easy to understand way. I actually enjoyed reading this book. There, I said it. What makes The Paleo Solution so compelling is it's simplicity. Robb basically boils it down to this. Give this a try for 30 days and if you do not notice a difference in how you look, feel, and perform, feel free to go back to whatever you were doing before. Simply, eat paleo foods, get plenty of rest, and get some exercise and your life will be changed. There's no hard sell. Just give it a shot and quit whining. WARNING: The following is a bit of a rant. Finally, If you noticed, I intentionally avoided the use of the word "diet" when referring to this book. The word "diet" kinda bugs me as it applies to this book. This is a lifestyle book. I can only figure the publisher or somebody made Robb put "diet" in big red letters on the cover. In my mind a diet is something miserable you do for a while so you can loose weight, so you can go back to what you used to do (not miserable), ultimately, gaining weight back. That's not what this is! It's more about lifestyle & wellness than "diet". A year ago when I was sick and tired of feeling like crap, I started eating paleo. Shortly thereafter, I found Robb's work and it made sense. Since then I have lost over 30 pounds and gained muscle. At no point did I feel miserable or feel like I deprived in any way. I actually felt great. I was leaner and I had no more achey joints. I just felt normal again. Not my mid-30's normal, more like my late teens, early 20's normal. That was awesome. If anything, this is a "be the best you" or "positive adaptation" diet (I am clearly not in marketing). If you are skinny, you will gain some muscle. If you are overweight, you will loose some fat. If you have digestive, auto-immune, or inflammatory issues, you very well may put your symptoms into remission. In short, buy the book. Stop whining. Do what it says. Feel better. Have fun and live a great life.

I've recently learned about Robb Wolf a few short Months ago. I started reading his blogs & listening to his Podcasts of the same name, I've even purchased some of his online articles. I have to tell you, he has really impressed me with his knowledge and passion for Nutrition & Exercise, not to mention his great sense of humor, I always get a few laughs when I read his Stuff. The More I read up on Paleolithic Nutrition, the more it made sense to me. I was so happy to hear that Robb's Book was about to be Published!! I literally ran all over town to get my copy! What can I say, I absolutely love this book! I loved the way it's perfectly balanced between some Hard Science (you need not take his word for it, he breaks down the "Why" with Hard Science), Practical Application (Robb makes it real simple to get started) and humor, it's going to be hard to read other Nutritional Books as Robb's book was actually funny! I found the book so Informative & entertaining, I literally couldn't put the book down. I finished it in a week (a very busy one)that's a record for me, I just couldn't put it down, going to read it again actually! I loved how the book just doesn't talk about looking good naked (like fad diets), but puts a lot of focus on health & lifestyle. I loved the little "Geek Speak" sections he had for people who really wanted to learn more. Robb also did an outstanding Job Scaling the Workout so no matter what's your level of Functionality, you can get started with this program! I actually really liked the Exercise Protocol he uses in the book! The 30 day Meal plan is top notch too! I've recently purchased an online Paleo recipe Book set, and while it's outstanding, the 30 day Meal plan from Robb's Book looked so good and practical I'm actually going to give this a go as is! I'm so happy that I made this investment, even if your on the fence about Paleolithic Nutrition, you will learn a lot of Science and information you can use to enhance your life and get a few laughs from the book as well! One complaint I seem to hear a lot is that most Paleo Nutrition books cater more to endurance athletes, Robb is a Lifter & Athlete, so the Power athlete is not ignored in this book! Great Job Robb! It's been 3 weeks into my Paleo Diet challenge and I have no intension of stopping after 30 days. I feel fantastic. I have lost some weight... I'm sure more will follow, but overall I just feel more rested, have more energy, less bloated, more clear headed, etc. The Paleo Diet is not a fad diet, it's a new way of life and I am not looking back. Robb has such an amazing voice in the book. "Put down the cookie and listen to what I'm saying!" "Buck up, Buttercup!" Thank you Robb for your help and insight.

Robb Wolf's "The Paleo Solution" is a wonderful resource for both the current Paleo eater and someone new to the arena of ancestral eating. Wolf breaks the book down into both the scientific "why" and the everyday "how" so that the reader can decide just how far down the scientific rabbit hole s/he wants to go. "The Paleo Solution" is a fun, light-hearted but educational adventure into ancestral nutrition and exercise that anyone can follow but it doesn't stop there. Wolf explains how diet, activity, sleep and lifestyle stress can radically effect one's well-being. I've followed Wolf's blog and podcast for years and I'm excited to have all of that information in one place -- an easy to read and understand text, to give to friends and family who are interested in improving their lives through diet and exercise.

Don't think of this as another low-carb diet book, think of it as how to change your life to a healthy lifestyle. Robb Wolf gives advice on how to eat like our ancestors, the importance of sleep and exercise, and gives you a plan on how to tackle this. If have read other books on the paleolithic diet then you may not get much new out of this one, but Wolf aimed this book at the beginners and does a great job of making it an easy to understand, so easy a caveman would get it. So buttercup if you are looking on how to improve your diet and health then grab this book.

Humorous, logical, and full of science, "The Paleo Solution" is a surprisingly entertaining educational book. Wolf (a former research chemist, now gym owner/trainer) relates his own story of how he became extremely sick on a supposedly healthy vegetarian diet and how he regained his health after he learned that he had a family history of celiac disease - a condition caused by exposure to gluten and exacerbated by grains, legumes, and dairy - and took steps to eliminate these problematic foods from his diet. Wolf lays out the anthropological and physiological evidence for how our modern life is truly out of step with our genetics, which haven't changed much in millions of years. Wolf obviously knows a lot about physiology and what can go wrong at the chemical level when we are exposed to stressors that are basically poisons (if not immediately fatal ones). Modern lifestyles and neolithic food are implicated in the development of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, infertility, and cancer. Wolf's arguments seem scientifically sound, and he does a good job of trying to keep things humorous. Some of the science-heavy chapters may be a bit much to get through in one sitting, but he does tell readers up front that they CAN go straight to the chapters on implementation, with their recommendations for before and after blood tests, sleep hygiene, exercises, and 30 days of recipes. Most impressive is his challenge to remain skeptical, even of everything he says. He asks that readers take the 30 day plunge and discover if they truly do look, feel, and perform better. If so, they have found the lifestyle that suits them and their genetics. If not - it's time to ask more questions.

First and foremost, this book is not trying to sell you anything! Add to that the fact the author is actually healthy, in shape, funny, knowledgeable, and practices what he preaches. Having been to a lecture given by Robb Wolf recently, then having read his book, the man speaks how he writes so you will enjoy the book cover to cover. The layman and the science geek will be happy, as he puts this info in simple to understand terms but adds the science for people who want more. 'the Paleo Solution' is just asking for 30 days, thats it! Your digestion, front to back will THANK YOU! The mirror will not lie! Short and simple, eat as much as you want of Good foods, no weighing, measuring, sweating the small stuff, just eat! Losing bodyfat is what will happen, plain and simple.

The Paleo Solution changed the way I look at nutrition and the common American diet. Wolf takes the time and tells why the way we eat contradicts out genetic structure. He uses the big terms but breaks it down for us who are not scientists. This is a must read for anyone who wants to change the way they think and feel about their diet. I have eliminated most of the pain from my chronic fibromyablis by following the paleo lifestyle.

Our son, a certified CrossFit trainer, started us on the Paleo diet about a year ago. It has changed our lives; we didn't catch the flu last year; our weights reached a maintenance level; our energy has increased; best of all, our pantry and freezer are stocked with foods better for us. Purchasing this book has added more value to our lives.

I like this Robb Wolf guy. He's funny and witty - but most of all it MAKES SENSE. Buy this book - and skip the rest of the gimmicky diet books out there.

You might think that this would be another boring diet book but it isn't. The author is funny and I just wanted to read more and more. This all makes going to try it for 30 days as he suggests and will come back and tell you what happened and how I feel.

If science were made to be this interesting and easy to understand when I was in school, I would have paid a lot more attention. The best part about this book is that if you don't believe the science then all you have to do is try it and see for yourself. And he is not trying to get you to buy into anything. It's not one of those programs where if you like it you have to t hen go and buy something to keep doing it. All the tools are in the book to make a successful start and it is super funny!!!!!!! Loved it!

Robb Wolf has done it! In his new book, The Paleo Solution, he has found a way to take the sometimes scary, many times overwhelming and all the time life altering topic of your health and made an extremely interesting to read and informative book. This is no easy task! As someone who has read almost all books out there regarding the Paleo approach to lifestyle and nutrition, I temper my recommendations to folks based on their expressed method of learning. For detailed explanations of why you should eat such and such read this book. Or if you aren't into the scientific end of things you should read this one. Robb's book reads the way he speaks, enlightened and humorous with a solid helping of wit. By the time you finish reading this book you really feel that to eat and live any other way is kind of silly. Where we as a people are in time in regards to our health isn't any good. For the most part the mess we've made and, more importantly, the solution to this mess is in our very own hands in the choices of food that we consume every day. The farther we get from the foods that our bodies recognize and are designed to process the further our health degrades and lifetimes of illness become acceptable. This does NOT have to be so. The Paleo Solution isn't a short term fad diet, but a true lifestyle program to help you gain control of your life and your health. Be careful! To have control of your life and your health is empowering and addictive! If you have to pick one resource for improving your life, Robb's Paleo Solution should be it! Get your copy today!

I started eating Paleo about a year ago. I started listening to the podcast and got this book also. It is a great resource for a way of eating that will have you feeling better than ever. I lost 40 lbs in a year. My wife did the same and she has even inspired several of the people she works with to do the same. They all went paleo and they are all feeling great and losing weight.

Before I get into my review of Robb Wolf's new book, "The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet," you should know that I've now attended Robb's "The Paleolithic Solution Seminar" twice and can honestly say that this guy is the real deal. He's extremely passionate about his work and, more importantly, about only presenting ideas and information that will help people. He has no interest in promoting information or action plans that are contrary to getting people looking, feeling and performing better. What good would that serve? Regardless of the information he presents in his seminar or in the book I'm about to review, Robb maintains that he does not want his message to become gospel and never face a contrarian view. He wants those of us who may think he doesn't know what he's talking about to prove him wrong, badly. Because, up until now, he's yet to see someone fail to thrive when they really follow the plan he sets forth for us in his teachings. In "The Paleo Solution," Wolf offers up his take on what is known amongst the nutritional and archeological science circles as a hunter-gatherer diet and lifestyle. As a former biochemist working in cancer research, Wolf's transition into studying and then promoting Paleolithic nutrition as an ideal human diet was rooted firmly in a personal history of dietary manipulations and an ever declining state of health. He covers the historical and evolutionary developments in diets of various societies/tribes and discusses the implications of these dietary changes on their health. Wolf highlights the one major historical change (the agricultural or Neolithic revolution) that has taken place across nearly all human diets and the results that the change has had on the development of disease and an overall, ubiquitous state of un-wellness in human beings. It's Wolf's belief that there are very specific foods, namely grains, legumes and dairy, that are at the root of most modern-day problems of diseases and ailment. Such problems include but are not limited to "cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, autoimmunity and infertility." (p. 47) The notion of a hunter-gatherer or "original human diet" really clicked with me. For a while I had been thinking that we need to STOP eating like Americans and START eating like human beings. It makes sense that there is a name for this diet, since we seem to like to label everything in this society. With that label comes a large community of people who are living this way and enjoying optimal health. With that label will also come the naysayers, and to them I say, read the book and just try it for yourself before you poo-poo the concept entirely. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, right? This book had excellent knowledge to start me on my caveman path. Love it. You will feel better. Not much for showing you workouts for intermediate and advanced people. I also wasn't a fan of the 30 day plan provided.. I would recommend the 4 hour body by Timothy Ferris along with this book..

I absolutely loved this book! it's really eye opening to the pitfalls of our modern day diet. This is a lifestyle change that will make anyone feel so much better by following it. Its not counting calories, its not some BS, its not drinking all of your meals. The ideas behind it are logically sound and it makes sense. Let me repeat, it makes SENSE. I'm not really overweight but not a marathon runner either, but I was able to stick to this diet. Now when I even just look at processed food or wheat or cheese, I just don't want it. My overall health has improved dramatically! Try it for 30 days and you'll feel the difference. Well worth the money!

Having fought with various dieting ideas over the years, I'd thought I hit on the solution to my weight gain. Stop eating meats and go vegetarian. However, nothing changed. Now, after merely a month of following Robb's guidelines - sleep, diet, varying exercise - I feel better, have lost ten pounds of flab and am spending the first Spring in over two decades without relying heavily on allergy medication. This book is a must-read and a must-follow.
