About the Author

Much like her main character, Carrie Bee grew up near Pittsburgh, PA as the only daughter of two devout Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs). Cast into a world she was taught to hate and ultimately shunned, she began a journey of self-examination which led her to research the only way of life that she ever knew. Inspired by her own experiences as well as those of other survivors', she decided to write a novel that would shed some light on what it was like growing up in this unusual religion.

The author currently resides in Beaver County, Pennsylvania and aspires to become an established author. She enjoys photography, trips to the beach, and backyard cookouts with family and friends. She is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother.
Carrie wishes continued freedom and unconditional love to all of her fellow ex-JW friends who will always be an important part of her life. She would like to give special thanks to all those who donated their names for the characters in this novel as a declaration of their freedom and to Leah Smith for that literary "shot in the arm" that only a well-read nurse could give.
Carrie cherishes her family and is truly grateful for their love and support. She hopes that future generations will become more tolerant of one another and that practicing members of the Watchtower Organization will realize that empty promises of everlasting life are nothing compared to the everlasting love of your family.

This book touched me in many different ways. It kept you on the edge of your seat, and made you anticipate  how she was going to ever have a good life. This book shows what it is like to live in a cult, and the abuse  one has to go through when dealing with losing your family, and friends. A book everyone should enjoy.  I literally could not put the book down!!

I couldn't put this book down! Read it in 2 nights. It brought back all kinds of memories and I could definitely relate to losing my childhood as most JW's do. Would recommend this book highly, especially to those exiting the religion. This is a true account of how it really is growing up in the Jehovah's Witness religion. I hope the author plans on writing a second book!

I was captivated by this book. Best book I've read in a long time. Carrie Bee's writing style made me feel that I was right there with "Ivy" experiencing what she was. I grew up in the same cult as "Ivy," therefore I could relate to every word. For anyone not raised a JW, this book is a real eye opener as it gives a true insight into some of the secrets within JW cult, and the life altering, damaging effects it has on it's members, especially children. I highly recommend reading this book.

I love this book! !!! I read it in one day!!!! I couldn't put it down!!!! My husband bought and read it and passed it on to me! I felt like I was standing right there next to Ivy though it all. I recommend this book to anyone! It will open your eyes to what a JW child goes through from a toddler to adulthood and then what that person goes through when they are shunned about the same as the Amish goes through

This book is a must read for anyone who has had dealings with Jehovah's Witness (JW)children while growing up - or even as young adults. It brought back vivid memories of things that I experienced as a young JW. Of course, even ex-JWs should read this book as it puts into words many of the thoughts and experiences that we went through. I highly recommend it. Carrie has done a wonderful job writing a novel that while is presented as a fictionalized account, one can see through it and see what is real. Scary real.

Great book, very thought provoking! I felt like this story is an eye-opener to the world, about how the Jehovah's Witness organization truly is. This story shows how mentally and sometimes physically damaging it can be. I read this book so fast because it's such a page turner, I couldn't put it down. Carrie Bee is an awesome author and I hope to read more from her in the future.
